For those with bad framerate settings try turning down your view distance. That made the biggest difference for me, even on the lowest setting I still saw incredibly far away.

My view distance is at the absolute minimum and I was still getting about 10fps looking at the floor in the wilderness this morning. Some of the servers were boned.

I haven't listened to the interview yet, but the podcast that I occasionally contribute to got Rocket on the line for a little while last week. It made it into this weeks podcast (about 45 minutes in, or so. if you don't want to listen to us). http://www.knowngriefers.com/2012/0...t-ing-into.html The interview itself is about 45 minutes, I think.

Not all "regular" servers have that enabled and, indeed, I find that most do not. There are also some "veteran" servers that have third person enabled, but most don't, and most that do have crosshairs disabled (Which I would be fine with if they at least appeared when you shouldered your weapon in third person). I prefer playing in third person because it makes the game more playable in general for me; trying to see in vegetation or in buildings is almost impossible for me, and I generally just feel like I have greater maneuverability in third person. That entire site is almost impossible to read, I really appreciate the work the Dayz guys are doing to the game, it's fun and unique, and Alpha. But some of these people make it seem like now Rocket and crew owe them for all the money they spent. If the goon hate continues like this, they will probably spend more money on accounts here to uncover this vast conspiracy than they would to donate to Rocket for his time and effort. Real stand up guys right there. I really like how the game is, it's a challenge because you just don't know what's around the corner or next hill. I've yet to shoot another player, been shot dead several times, but that's just how I want to play it. The paranoia levels in the game are great. I do hope I log in and don't have a cold, but then again, I've hoped that I didn't wake up with a coworkers cold or flu the next day as well.

So I bought ARMA II a little while back to play with Goons, but it felt pretty laggy and clunky. I understand that this is probably in part just how the engine is, but I'm curious if Operation Arrowhead has improved the engine at all? I'd really like to play Day Z, but I had a pretty bad experience with vanilla ARMA II.

But yeah, if you didn't like Arma for all its clunkiness and bugs, DayZ is the same, except with zombies and beans.

So I did my first murders last night Was heading to Stary to hook up with some goons. I was west of Guglovo in the forest and spotted a bandit and a survivor making their way through the forest and they hadn't spotted me. I dropped my M4 SD (which I subsequently lost on the floor) and pulled a CZ out of my backpack. I watched them for a long time deciding what to do before pulling the trigger on the prone bandit. The first shot missed but the second pegged him right in the head. His friend soon followed and then a second survivor started slowly walking over to the corpse of his friend and he went down like a sack of spuds. I don't know why I did it Of course it was all for naught when 2 of us got accidentally TK'd when 2fat4sex dropped a grenade at his feet instead of a chemlight Then when I went to bed I was having DayZ dreams about being a bandit and shooting people for robbing me. I've become a monster

Launching flares everywhere near the coast of all places was a mercy killing. Admittedly it was also my most stylish kill, so I'm happy it panned out that way. But yeah, just taking potshots at zombies outside towns and basically lighting yourself up at night... If I didn't do it someone else would have, and beans are all the sweeter when you're prying them out a dead mans hands. Sometimes you'll see two survivors travelling along together when one just starts going full retard and either picks up a flare or starts aggroing zeds and his compatriot will just turn and run realising he teamed up with a complete moron. Solo survivor all the way.

I got this last week. Didn't plan on being a bandit, but Jake running down the middle of the road at night with flares out between Elektro and Cherno stopped to type "Hey guys I'm on my way to Cherno almost there!!!" was too tempting a target. Ran up behind him and shot him point blank in the head. Now to murder everyone.

Considering that we just had a new moon yesterday, it'll probably be another 10 or so days until there's enough moonlight for people without NVGs to reliably play in darkness. http://www.moonconnection.com/moon_..._calendar.phtml

Gunder posted:Doesn't this sometimes result in people's weapons and ammo disappearing? What do you mean exactly by "pull the weapon inside of it out"? Remove the backpack rifle, rather than your current rifle. Weapons only disappear if you try putting them into your backpack and there isn't room. By removing a rifle from your backpack, you're freeing the exact amount of space necessary for your existing one to fit, unless it's an oversized item. (I don't know if these exist in vanilla arma or just ACE) The weapon switch happens automatically for whatever reason. For what it's worth I've been using this method ever since I found out I could carry a second weapon in my backpack, and I've never had problems.
