Hgg I've been trying to get this to run all weekend. At this point when I try to run Combined Ops from Steam, a little DOS window pops up and flashes some text and immediately disappears, and the game won't start. What is happening

What is happening Make sure you've updated to the latest beta patch. Run Arma II and Arma II OA separately on their own at least once and then close out. That initializes... stuff. Cannot skip that step. Make sure you have the DayZ files in the @DayZ folder. Make sure your launch properties for Arma II OA include "-mod=@dayz" and I also had to rename my arma2oa.exe file to something else and replace it with the arma2oa.exe file in my Beta folder. Then run as Combined Ops.

Hurp Durp Master posted:PvE/PvP servers will probably have to exist in order for Day Z to play out as Rocket intends. There are definitely a lot of people who only want to just play the game PvE and not have to deal with getting randomly shot by a fresh spawn you just picked up an enfield. Zombies in the PvE version would need to be a much more significant challenge for it to work, and probably more varied, otherwise it'd just be boring. I don't see it happening since the balance would need to be entirely different.

Is anyone having trouble getting the mumble overlay to show up when using six launcher? I can't seem to get it to work. I also can't talk to people in mumble when I use my PTT button.

Just had my best session yet since I started playing a couple days ago. Scored an M4 carbine and a GPS, plus enough M4 ammo that I was able to raid the military camp at Stary Sobor where I got a shitload more M4 ammo plus a G17 w/ 4 mags and a few other trinkets. I'm kind of surprised I didn't get PKed at Stary Sobor. Nothing too special but it was better than my previous runs of "finally finding a weapon then immediately getting myself killed". I need a bigger backpack but I'm not sure where they spawn. CatWithWheels fucked around with this message at Jul 8, 2012 around 20:34 |

I usually find a backpack on my initial run in Elektro or Cherno or otherwise not at all. Yesterday we found 2 24 slot packs in the military tents at Stary though. I would guess that military areas have the highest chance to spawn them, and supermarkets also seem to have a very high chance (almost always at least a Czech backpack when I check supermarkets)

For some reason I cannot open my backpacks anymore. I got a Czech one a while ago and it wouldn't work when I double clicked on it. Now I have returned to the old one, still cannot open it.

Man, I really wish that crossbow bolts came in quivers or something rather than just as individual bolts. They are soooo much fun, but wildly impractical. Also I think I know the answer to this... but why were my character's arms shaking like I'm perpetual out of breath, even after catching my breath?

When there is gear on the floor and you open bag, you SEE the slots in the bag, like you do your inventory. When there isnt gear on the floor or you're just opening your bag from your inventory, your free bag slots are shown at the top like 16/16 for the czech bag for instance... In this mode, anything in your bag is the number column to the left of the item, and anything in inventory is in the number column in the right. code:

The backpack works like a loot pile when you aren't looting an actual loot pile. When you're looting an actual pile it acts as a secondary main inventory. Fun Fact: When you aren't looting a loot pile and try to "drop" something from your backpack it will go into your main inventory. If there isn't enough space it tries to move some item from your main inventory to your backpack. And if there isn't enough space for the item in the backpack the item gets deleted!

So what's up with losing my guns when I try and put them in the backpack? Is it because they're too big? Is there any way of carrying two main weapons without a bigger backpack?

Voyager I posted:I'd actually like to see zombies made significantly tougher, at least in areas with highly valuable equipment. Part of why there's so much random player killing is that it's easy to get good gear and abundant ammunition for military grade weapons makes killing people fairly cheap. Once you're decently equipped, the Zombies essentially stop being dangerous and the entire survival aspect of the game gets replaced with people randomly murdering each other. Hell, as it stands the random player conflict is the only reason there's any challenge in the game at all. If a server of people actually worked together, we'd have buses driving along the south coast handing M4s and blood bags to fresh spawns and then giving them rides to the cookout at NWA. This is a great point. Yeah, the zombies need to be way way way harsher. To the point that it forces players to tend to want to band together because survival via constant pvpinf means fewer people can protect you when a mass of tough to stop zombies comes after you. A lot of this is that the zombies have extremely bad AI and are inherently just not a big deal except in very rare large numbers when you don't have ammo. Also people with negative karma attracting more zombies would be cool. As would random weapon jams on low karma people.

Curiosity: Has anyone extended an offer for an SA account to Rocket? (Assuming he doesn't already have one) He has stated before that he takes a great deal of inspiration for the game from various forums he reads, and didn't see our name up in there; I'm sure some of us here would have numerous suggestions for him if he was.

To the point that it forces players to tend to want to band together because survival via constant pvpinf means fewer people can protect you when a mass of tough to stop zombies comes after you. Keep in mind that ammo tracking is going to be implemented soon, so the weapons using more esoteric ammo (anything which doesn't spawn in barns or use STANAG/AK-ammo) are going to be near useless, and even the STANAG/AK weapons are going to be much harder to sustain since the increased demand for ammo will turn all the military spawns into killing fields (more than they already are). And making the zombies significantly harder isn't going to force people to band together, it's going to force everyone to join a clan with TS or leave the game. I don't know what groups you've played in but every time I raid a town with a bunch of pubs my life-span shortens quickly. Quadruple the people is quadruple the idiots aggroing a zombie and firing an enfield to kill it. There is very little fire coordination so people just waste ammo over-killing a single zombie while they are getting mauled from behind. And the rest dies when a PKer gets into the group. TL;DR Impromptu groups are significantly less successful than lone-wolfers and increasing difficulty to force lone-wolfers into impromptu groups is going to drive both out of the game.

Perks/classes can let teams work together in cool ways, and some minor starting loot like extra beans or something wouldnt be a big deal. I think that once you start changing the abilities from one player to another, you take away the rawness which makes this game unique. Sure it would be an interesting idea to have different classes or perks, but EVERY GOD drat GAME has classes and perk-like systems. This is the perfect case of simpler is better. It is what makes the game unique, appealing and challenging as hell. Keep RPG aspects out of it!!!

Apart from my very first death, which was to zombies before I knew how to play at all, I've never died or lost anything legitimately, only to bugs or hacking. Just now me and another goon were standing around at our nicely hidden tent in the middle of a dense stand of firs when some guy in a ghillie suit runs up to us with a hatchet out of nowhere. We empty our mags into him to no effect as he glitches around and seemingly teleports behind us repeatedly. I can buy that he may have found us legitimately, but the invincibility and glitching around was definitely a hack. Also, there's no way a non-hacking player would be running up to hatchet two guys with AKs while wearing a rare and valuable ghillie suit in the first place; he'd just have shot us from a distance or simply waited until we cleared off to loot the tent. I'm not sure how this is ever going to become a legit game or total conversion or whatever, given Arma 2's terrible anti-cheat protection.
