My backpack was too small to fit any of the weapons in without losing too much stuff. I feel like out of those three the Winchester is the hands down most useful followed by the CZ550 then the Enfield. The Winchester is pretty drat powerful, takes out zeds in 1 shot, carries 15 shots per stack of ammo, and doesn't aggro them for miles like the other two sniper rifles do. Also, it's one of the most common ammo types I've happened to run across, only coming second behind spare Makarov mags. I almost absolutely never pick up the Enfield, the CZ is far more useful with the scope and ammo commonness is about the same between the two. Honestly the only reason I'll ever pick it up is if I see one around and have to climb a ladder, so I wont break my ankles.

Someone described it as four dimensional chess, where you could log off in a standoff, get behind the guy on a different server and log back in on the other server. Sadly, with the auth servers in the state they are, this is a practical impossibility. I'd settle for a decent rifle, a shotgun, or a high-caliber pistol. Just something that's easy to use and can reliably drop a zombie with one or two shots. As it stands right now I'm holed up on the rooftop of a factory. I've cordoned off the stairs leading up to it with barbed wire I found in a building nearby. I'm not intimately familiar with ARMA's map, and I don't have a map in-game, but according to a sign outside (I can read Cyrillic!) I am in Elektrozadorsk. I've only got two magazines for my makarov, and the area's swarming with z's, but I've got plenty of food and bandages, and 45 shotgun rounds. I'm hoping to just hold out here until night-fall; I'll put up some flares and hopefully attract someone I can trade for ammo, or for a shotgun.

Just a small tip: always keep the Makarov unless you get a ton of rounds for a better pistol. Finding ammo for the other weapons can be a hassle sometimes. Barns are probably the best place to look for weapons because they generally have a few chances to get stuff.

I've heard that, and I was walking around the edge of town trying to get into apparently inaccessible barns but couldn't find any I could actually enter. The only buildings, for the most part, that I have been able to get into have been houses and industrial buildings, so I started going closer to the center of town searching those, found a bunch of food, bandages, and shotgun ammo and barbed wire I mentioned, and then zombies chased me up here, and here I am. I know there's a building in town with two or three makarov mags that I had to leave behind (At the time I had five full ones, and thought stocking up on other supplies was more important) but I'm not exactly sure where it is and I don't want to risk going out there with only two mags on me. I'd probably use at least one of them just getting out of this building.

Yeah my bag is full of bandages and shotgun ammo. Thanks for the tip about the houses, though, mostly if I see from the windows that the inside isn't rendered I don't bother. I think I'm going to try chucking a flare outside to distract the zombies and try to sneak out and get to the ammo I know is here. There's also a dead guy downstairs, I think I'll stash my bag up here and take his on the way out.

Hell, in the NW airfield we found at least a dozen corpses to pilfer. One of them got a single kill on a survivor and it was all worth it when we were mindlessly trundling around from one town to the next and ran into a loving zombie out of nowhere (it was night and raining so visibility was zero) Two of my friends screamed like girls and we all panicked, nearly shooting each other in a made scramble to kill one lousy zombie. What a load of absolute bullshit. I spotted a guy running around town shooting zombies and made contact with him. He was a bandit, but realized that I had him at a disadvantage as I could see him but he couldn't see me. We talked a bit and I tried to negotiate a deal but ended up shooting him anyway because he was a bandit and he was acting weird. On his body, I found an alice pack, several cans of food, an extra canteen, some medicine and bandages, and seven magazines of 9x18 ammo. I took all of it. Then the game, for absolutely no reason, knocks me out, gives me a broken bone, and, after I wake up and bandage myself and use morphine, it does it again. I use all my medicine and eat all my food trying to get myself back in some kind of condition, but in the end ended up blind and out of food. I used most of the ammo fending off zombies that were converging on me while I was unconscious. In the end I was no better off than when I started except for the alice pack, and also I was blind and without any food or medicine. So I opted to respawn. Hopefully I can find the alice pack again before anyone else does.

I've randomly rejoined a server with broken legs and the worst was when I was in a town with a friend waiting for someone to show up, he went through a doorway and died, instantly. I hit the deck and looked for a sniper but nope, he just loving died for NO reason at all.

It gets better. I tried to rejoin the server to go get my alice pack, but was afflicted by a glitch where sometimes, when trying to join a dayz server, a second instance of ARMA randomly starts up. This takes up so many resources that I won't be able to get into either of them until I close one, but how do I know which is the one that will allow me to rejoin the server where my alice pack is? I have no idea. e: nevermind, they both crashed! e2: They have been reverting people's characters who have been killed by glitches, right? I'll e-mail them and see if they give me back my alice. thehumandignity fucked around with this message at May 12, 2012 around 09:11 |

Hahaha, I was in the mumble overhearing, the whole thing was friggin' hillarious. Then someone walked into the barn I was in with about 40 zombies chasing him and I procedeed to have an adrenaline-filled mexican standoff for the next 20 minutes as I peppered him up pretty good in our little back and forth. I felt bad though, as the guy generally was hosed with no supplies, so I called a truce and transfused him back up. I'm such a softie for pubs (survivors at least) because I think about all the times I've died and how badly it sucked to run an hour somewhere just to get a decent gun.

Well, someone already took it. And things just get better! The game has now erroneously made me a bandit with -297 humanity, even though I've never attacked another player before ever! So now I'm completely fair game for anyone that wants to take a shot at me. Joy. e: What is the mumble? Now that the game has decided to force me to play as a bandit soloing is absolutely impossible because everyone shoots me on sight. thehumandignity fucked around with this message at May 12, 2012 around 10:07 |

Look at the thread in Private Game Servers for the mumble. And if you're only getting bags then the server needs a reset.

They seem to have added a new load of EU servers. This, unfortunately, has the by-product of making it take even longer to log in now. I've been sitting at "Waiting for server response" for about 15 minutes now. Edit: Trying to connect to different servers seems to make no difference, still and endless wait to login.

If this is true, it bodes well for my humble "gaming rig". Zombies don't spawn until you approach major towns or cities. Players hang around cities because of free poo poo/pubbies to kill. If you avoid these places it should be better in terms of performance. Also Chernogorsk runs like poo poo on a lot of computers. Also ArmA2's netcode runs very well. We had aussie and egyptian players playing on US servers quite fine.
