So how does playing with friends work? Do you both randomly spawn somewhere on Chernarus and pray that you can somehow find each other, or is there some kind of mechanic in place to make grouping up easier?

Also, if you have a character on one server, does it transfer over to other servers?

I wish they would tone down the obnoxious screen blurring thing when you get low on blood. I had a great pistol fight with a guy that left me with about 400 blood left and it took me about an hour to scavenge enough food to get it back above the threshold. I have an ALICE pack that's filled with medical poo poo and blood packs but I didn't have anyone to do a transfusion and I don't trust anyone that doesn't have an LLJK in front of their name.

I spent my entire evening sneaking around the perimeter of towns dropping people with a CZ 550, then going in for their stuff. Pubbies on rooftops and looking out windows are real easy pickings so my humanity is down to around -10,000 now.

Staying away from large cities, doing careful recon from a distance and having a very long range weapon has done wonders for my survival rate. Plus, sniping pubbie strongholds from 500 meters away isn't getting old anytime soon.

I get most of my supplies from inland towns because the odds of running into anyone in them is exceedingly slim. Cherno and Elektro draw tons of people and staying in them for very long, especially during the day, is a great way to get killed. Plus, all the equipment you get there is lovely.

30 bucks, you need to buy Combined Operations. And seeing it's number 5 on the Steam top 10 list right now, I don't think 40k in revenue is a stretch.

Of course, I realize I can't reload right after attracting a zombie. I run around elektro like an idiot and end up getting eaten by a dozen zombies.

Both true. I think I'd have to see what his defensive emplacements are that he has planned, before I could really recommend a course of action to solve that. Making the zombies be less sprint-worthy might be enough, but we'll see.

If you could set up sandbags and the kind of gates you get at military camps (the razorwire two-door ones) and barbed wire, and zombies would actually work to destroy the sandbags or gate, then I think it'd be passable. But the way zombies work currently does present a huge problem to the "zombie siege" idea, yeah.

You can already set up sandbags and barbed wire barriers.

Not only that, but non-Makarov/revolver pistol ammo is rare as gently caress so if you have to kill more than a handful of them you're going to burn all your ammo in a matter of minutes, assuming you don't get raped by a mob of zig-zagging lightning fast zombies.

I now understand the pubby-murdering mentality. On my first life I thought everyone was being kind of a jerk with all this killing pubbies for no reason, "hey, no point ruining anyone else's fun right?"

Then, having painstakingly built up a pretty decent kit with an ALICE pack, compass, map, good supply of food, AKM and silenced pistol with plenty of ammo, I logged in after the patch to find I'd been spawned on the coast, so I set off running and heard a shot behind me. I turned around and saw a freshly spawned pubby pointing a gun at me, so I squeezed a few rounds off at him, saw him fall, but somehow I still died. And I swore a lot.

So on my next life, I spawned and instantly pegged it off into the woods up a steep hill. At the top of the hill I found a ruined castle, clear of zombies. I carefully crept in, found a CZ with ammo, and made my way up to the top of the castle where there were several more CZs and various bits of trash loot. Making my way back down, I froze as I saw a survivor enter the castle. He didn't notice me, and went straight to a pile of loot at the foot of the stairs I was crouched at the top of. And I shot him in the head, and he dropped the C-bomb on chat. Does this make me a douche?

vv Fair enough. He had a nice big backpack and I wanted it.

Welcome to the life of a bandit. It's pretty awesome, no?

A lot of my initial equipment on a new life comes from dead pubbies, although my current guy has been alive for something like 3 days.

I really don't want to play with a lovely, murky vision that's obstructive as all gently caress, so I play with 1080p both regular and 3D, but are there any other settings that are particularly hard on GPUs?

EDIT: Also: is there anything that can be done about extremely sporadic net code that won't let me join servers half the time and disconnects me at the first sign of action that involves anything but walking around?

If your GPUs are running at 100C you need to dust out your case and take off the plastic covers on the GPUs and clean the dust out from the heatsinks.

This game puts a lot of stress on GPUs but 100C is a cleaning issue, not a load one.

I think it's an alright mechanic that forces people to make more life or death choices, much like food, water and medical supplies already do. It forced a buddy and I to make some pretty hasty decisions in Stary Sobor tonight that lead to our demise. We could have opted to high tail it out and strike a camp in the cover of the woods, but we had already been spotted, so instead we tried to take on what we thought was a lone bandit in the town. Turns out, he wasn't alone. Go figure.

It definitely encourages more cooperation, since wood piles take up a sizable amount of inventory space and matches can be hard to come by. A certain level of cooperation should be necessary to survive, and more cooperation should be encouraged.

It gets to the point where you need to carry way too many goddamn things just to survive and if you run out of just one of them you're hosed. I'm all for the survival aspect but when you have to fill 3/4 of your inventory with blood, food, water, painkillers, antibiotics, matches, logs and on and on it goes from interesting gameplay to tedious checklist.

If you have "put out fire" you should have another option for "cook meat" assuming you have raw meat in your inventory. The whole thing is very buggy, which is odd because it worked just fine prior to the change where you needed firewood.

There are several spawn points and camping them is not really practical or worthwhile. You're more likely to be shot by some guy who just respawned for your beans than death by bandit. The major coastal cities (Chernogorsk and Electrovodsk) are new player magnets so shitloads of people get killed there.
