ok, question: I'm finding things like backpacks, vest pouches, etc, but I can't get them, all I can do is open them. Is there any way to actually grab them?

mmnnnope, can't get the beta version to run with the dayz mod. crashes out when trying. ohwell. [edit] ok how the gently caress are you supposed to get this piece of poo poo working with the steam version. I've created a shortcut with the target as: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -nosplash -mod=@dayz -mod=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion and the start in as: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead" however it fails to work, dayz complains about missing resources and I can't connect to servers. Dropping the beta expansion mod just fails to run at all, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong here. Doccers fucked around with this message at May 1, 2012 around 20:41 |

This game is awesome. I have never seen another player yet (largest city I've floated through has been Stary Sobor), but I've whacked a dozen zombies, and I have a CZ hunting rifle, map, watch, flashlight, and ALICE pack. It's going to suck so much when I die. Next I think I'll try and find a car and get it running...

wow. I finally died to a zombie. Then next spawn I got sniped from god knows where, then PK'd two more times. Later on, I wound up meeting a bunch of non-hostile folks in Elektro, but unfortunitely we attracted a bunch of zombies and I ran completely out of ammo. I need to learn to just lead them into a church or other building, so I can pick them off at will instead of trying to deal with them while running. Still a drat fun game. My life's purpose now is to find some out of the way place and start rebuilding a car. Also: yeah, thinking of taking lljk out of the name for now.

ExtraNoise: sorry Id idn't see this earlier, I had similar problems. You have to first start up each game individually. Dollars to Donuts the regular ARMA will start up with a CD Key error. If it does, here's how to fix it: Exit steam entirely, re-run the steam application as admin, and re-verify the ARMA II files from within steam. happened to me too.

thehumandignity posted:It's not "incorrect" for the revolver to use .45 ACP. There's lots of revolvers that take .45 ACP. What is incorrect is that you can't take the rounds from .45 speedloaders you find to fill your 1911 mags with, and vice-versa. It's infuriating to stumble upon speedloader after speedloader (Since they are much more common than 1911 magazines) and not be able to take the rounds from them, when there's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to. It's a labelling issue in the list - if you look at the boxes on the ground, they're labelled ".45 colt" - which is the rimmed revolver cartridge that the 1911 cannot accept. The actual 1911 boxes are .45acp. the revolver should (with moon/half moon clips) be able to accept .45acp as well as the original .45 colt, but the 1911 can only use the ACP ammo. so basically he just mislabelled the speedloaders on the list, they should be labelled ".45 colt" I'm wondering what caliber the winchester shotgun is as well, because I don't think it's 12ga, seems more to be 20ga or so, which would explain why you can't swap ammo with the other shotguns which are 12ga.

Crigit posted:To be fair, if you don't have any spare 1911 mags where are you going to put those bullets? ARMA 2 doesn't have a way to track rounds that aren't part of a clip or magazine. You can't even merge two half empty mags into one full one of the same type. gently caress i'd just be happy if it labelled how many rounds were left in a magazine at the gear screen. that way I could find the one that only had 1 round and drop it to pick up one with 8.

Party Plane Jones posted:The worst thing is the random chance to lose an entire magazine if you've shot one bullet out of it. Thank the devs for that one. I understand why they did that, before they added that in everyone would leave one round in their magazines and because it doesn't track the capacity of the mag, it'd refill them all when you log back in.

now that I have NVG's, I dislike playing during the daytime. I feel way too exposed all the time and find myself logging into nighttime servers. It's amusing how many people run around with lit flares and chemlights, illuminating themselves from miles out. It's really amusing how good I'm getting with the DMR.

Gunder posted:Doesn't this sometimes result in people's weapons and ammo disappearing? What do you mean exactly by "pull the weapon inside of it out"? There's two options when you open the backpack, one is to move the primary weapon INTO the backpack (BIG NONO! things disappear this way) the other is to Pull a weapon OUT of the backpack. The latter option will simply "Swap" weapons, with nothing vanishing. I can't remember which side is which in the backpack screen but it should be pretty obvious if you know what's in your quickslots and what's in your backpack.

I just spent an hour playing ANGRY GOD OF THE MOUNTAIN at night next to elektro. Sitting on the mountain NE of electro (east of the power plant), just having fun watching the flare show down below. Answering new players questions in chat, and if I think they're near elektro, having them do various stuff so I can ID them, then guide them around the zombies and into a supermarket/church/whatever to get them started. Hey, I was amused, ok? Until someone decided to sneak up on one of my charges, and shoot him twice in the back of the head. Then I got angry. With the DMR. at about 800 meters. he thought I was in a building across the street and emptied his AK into it. and then bled out and died on the school roof. later on he respawned and tried to find me on the mountain, throwing a shitton of flares to white out my NVG's. Switched to the M249 and cut him in goddamn half. SAW indeed. Spent the rest of the night helping new players and picking off any bandit dumb enough to be in my line of sight. saw a few guys telling people "DO NOT GO UP THAT MOUNTAIN! that's where Doccers lives. He's a cool guy. but scary. Stay away from that hill." Made my night.

I'd been running for over a month with a full set of stuff. best backpack, SD M4 (which I traded for an M249 later on), DMR, NVG's, etc etc. Finally died last night and I actually giggled when I respawned because I was no longer afraid to do anything. [edit] I wish that Tents were stored on the central database instead of server specific. As it is they're pretty useless (I can't even get one to set up most of the time) because I server hop a lot. If I could be sure my tent would stay put and I could access it on any server, I'd use the hell out of one.
