Hast Du Eier?

quote:

One year ago in Germany, a young woman (my wife) was baking cookies and realized she was short one very important ingredient: eggs. Off she went to the convenience store located across the street - a very busy street, two lanes each way with a bike lane, to boot.

Her German being at a novice level, she asked the cashier at the store if he had any eggs, "Hast du Eier?" - which, to those who know German, actually means "Do you have any cojones?" (Cojones is, to those who know Spanish, testicles). And thus was born the inspiration for the Frogger-esque, street-hopping, car-dodging game, Hast du Eier.

Penny Arcade wants to go ad free for a year:

quote:

People don't like advertising almost as a general rule; Advertising is simply The Way It Is. People who make content learn to like it, because they want to make content, and they also want to eat food and sleep under a roof, and the opportunity to do both at the same time seems like a pretty good idea.

After the "dot com bubble," we ran the site entirely on donations for over a year. The word crowdfunding hadn't been invented yet; back then, people simply called it "begging," but I think it's clear that those days are long past. We look back on that period with incredible fondness, and I don't think we're the only ones. It was just two of us then, not the juggernaut that it is now; we have mouths to feed, as it were. I think we had assumed it wasn't possible to do it that way anymore - to operate a site at this scale without advertising dollars - but it occurred to us that we'd never actually asked. People often want to know how they can support the site in a way that doesn't involve t-shirts or looking at advertising, and I think we may have a way. What I'm saying is that we want to sell out, and we would love to sell out to you.

SCIENCE: Ruining Everything Since 1543 (an SMBC Collection):

quote:

SMBC (short for "Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal") is a daily-updated comic strip about all sorts of topics. Its author, Zach Weinersmith, is a giant dork who also has many other geeky projects such as producing SMBC Theater, writing for Snowflakes, his science blog the Weinerworks, and his science-themed podcast The Weekly Weinersmith (which he co-hosts with his wife, the parasitologist Kelly Weinersmith).

So it will come as no huge surprise that this, the third SMBC printed collection, is a compendium of his finest science-related strips. Like these!

Story War, a card game where you and your team try to argue why the cards you played would defeat the opposing teams cards.

It sounds fun, has already been designed, and they are not asking for much.

Story War is having a crossover special with Machine of Death where backers of both projects get cards that reference the other games. Both games look pretty cool and are already fully funded, so this is a nice little reward for pre-ordering both games.

Nevermind: A Biofeedback Horror Adventure Game

quote:

Nevermind is a biofeedback-enhanced horror adventure game that takes you into the dark and twisted world within the subconscious minds of trauma victims.

As you explore surreal labyrinths and solve the puzzles of the mind, a biofeedback sensor monitors how scared or stressed you become with each passing moment. If you let your fears get the best of you, the game will become harder. If you’re able to calm yourself in the face of terror, the game will be more forgiving.

Nevermind’s goal is to create an unforgettable gameplay experience that also teaches players how to be more aware of their internal responses to stressful situations. If you can learn to control your anxiety within the disturbing realm of Nevermind, just imagine what you can do when it comes to those inevitable stressful moments in the real world…
