This looks really awesome! The progress you've made so far is staggering. In the demo, how do you build ships? I can only attach things to other red dots and nothing in the shortcut menu seems to help. The direction you guys are planning for this game seems like a 3D parallel to Starfarer, which is great. We need more games like this. Love the project so far, keep at it!

Looks pretty neat but I'd like to know what'll distinguish this from every other space sim out there before donating. Definitely going to keep an eye on it though.

Is it wrong that I'm using this entirely sketchy Kickstarter prediction site to get worried that we need to push harder for publicity?
|
| # ? May 2, 2012 21:53 |

Well we definitely need more publicity, there is no question about that! We are very active but I don't want us to come off as spamming. The single best thing that can happen for us, is if our story gets picked up by a major game jorno site, or a YouTube star talks about Kinetic Void favorably. We have threads on SA(Obviously) RPS, Bay12, Reddit, videos on YouTube and GameTrailers, and we have had a handfull of lesser game news sites mention us. We are only 2 days in however, so most news outlets / Tube stars haven't had the time to do anything yet. also for Kicktraq the search preview is more accurate. The indepth one runs on 24 hour increments, and counts the first six hours of our campaign as its own day. Use this link http://www.kicktraq.com/search/?find=Kinetic+Void its showing us at 92% trend.

LumberingTroll posted:Well we definitely need more publicity, there is no question about that! I don't know how that tracker works exactly, but you have to keep in mind that a lot of KickStarters will start out stronger than usual in the first day or so and then taper off. You've probably got a little bit of that going, with something like 20%-30% of your backing from the first two days coming straight from these forums. As great as we are, the "SA effect" is more than likely done helping. So, yeah, you definitely need a lucky break with the press. This isn't what I do, so don't take me as an expert, but if I were you I'd spend this time digging up every single press contact you can find, linking them the demo, explaining your game's "core fun" in 1-2 very concise and well-written sentences, and offering whatever other incentives you can think of for some coverage. This is pretty important -- a lot of people just resign themselves to being a "niche genre," which is a mistake. Even niche genres are fun for a reason. Explain why they're fun as if your audience doesn't know -- because they probably, for the most part, don't. Just go nuts with this, spend as much time contacting press as you can stand to. There's nothing else more important you can be doing right now. octoroon fucked around with this message at May 3, 2012 around 00:01 |

Behold, I come bearing bug reports! Not very interesting ones, though. Updating: - The updater is not included in the main download - If the updater is not installed (see above), clicking "check for updates" in game fails silently - If the updater is installed, clicking "check for updates" exits the game even if there are no updates available Design: - If you delete your entire ship (say, by accidentally right-click-Ring the central component), the "starter cube" doesn't come back and you need to completely exit the game to get it back (or load a saved design) - related to the above, there appears to be no way to start from scratch other than exiting and restarting the game Feature requests: - Some kind of symmetry tool - Part scaling - I was actually surprised to find out that there were controls for "rotate" and "next attachpoint" but not "resize"

I already pretty much send out an update announcement every Monday, and that makes me feel dirty as is ToxicFrog posted:Behold, I come bearing bug reports! Not very interesting ones, though. Updating: - The updater is not included in the main download Fixed - If the updater is not installed (see above), clicking "check for updates" in game fails silently Fixed - If the updater is installed, clicking "check for updates" exits the game even if there are no updates available This is going to happen, it has to close the app to run the updater to check to see if there is a patch available. Design: - If you delete your entire ship (say, by accidentally right-click-Ring the central component), the "starter cube" doesn't come back and you need to completely exit the game to get it back (or load a saved design) Fixed - related to the above, there appears to be no way to start from scratch other than exiting and restarting the game - Escape -> Shipyard reloads the scene, but I will look into adding a button that reloads the block, in a blank state Feature requests: - Some kind of symmetry tool - We are looking into this, but its pretty difficult considering our system is not designed around symmetry at all - Part scaling - I was actually surprised to find out that there were controls for "rotate" and "next attachpoint" but not "resize" - This is very intentional as there is size tiers. The size of a module directly correlates to the size of its sub-systems menu, which is in game, but not visible in the public view. Being able to freely scale parts would mean you could make a Dreadnought the size of frigate, and would unbalance things considerably, especially when you take hit boxes and locational damage into account. thanks for the feedback ToxicFrog!
