X3 and Freelancer are our highest inspirations for gameplay, in the shipyard demo now, you can use spacebar to toggle into mouse flight, and we will be implementing a key toggle that allows control of turrets in a similar fashion.

LT has said that he at least wants a mod SDK to be a stretch goal. And in general the features that make a game easy to mod also make it easier to develop, so I'm hoping that at least the ability to easily add new parts will be there on release - it's done wonders for KSP, which is using the same engine, so it's at least possible.

LT would be able to give you an actual answer as opposed to wild speculation, though.

This is correct, pretty much word for word!

It is indeed, keep in mind that what we have shown is only 3 months worth of work, we started development end of January. So we develop quickly, and release weekly updates.

No problem, we plan to stay as open as possible about the whole thing KS and development, there is no reason to keep people out of the loop, or answer any questions.

This looks really awesome! The progress you've made so far is staggering.
In the demo, how do you build ships? I can only attach things to other red dots and nothing in the shortcut menu seems to help.

The direction you guys are planning for this game seems like a 3D parallel to Starfarer, which is great. We need more games like this.

Love the project so far, keep at it!

Red connectors receive green connectors. Parts can only be attached via the connection points. Be sure to hit F1 to see the keybindings. It will tell you how to rotate parts and cycle through connection points.

Same here - I'm aiming to defend in early fall, so hopefully one of them will be playable by then.

(I don't really consider Starfarer "playable" yet either, since the campaign balance is so messed up all it really does is make me want to play Space Rangers 2 again.)

(Note to Kinetic Void devs: Space Rangers 2 kicks rear end, you should play it.)

Well we definitely need more publicity, there is no question about that!
We are very active but I don't want us to come off as spamming. The single best thing that can happen for us, is if our story gets picked up by a major game jorno site, or a YouTube star talks about Kinetic Void favorably.

We have threads on SA(Obviously) RPS, Bay12, Reddit, videos on YouTube and GameTrailers, and we have had a handfull of lesser game news sites mention us.

We are only 2 days in however, so most news outlets / Tube stars haven't had the time to do anything yet.

also for Kicktraq the search preview is more accurate. The indepth one runs on 24 hour increments, and counts the first six hours of our campaign as its own day.

Use this link http://www.kicktraq.com/search/?find=Kinetic+Void its showing us at 92% trend.

Your Kickstarter faq mentions linux support twice.

quote:

Is there Linux support?
We would very much like to support Linux! However we are developing on Unity, and they do not have an option to build out to Linux at this time, they have integrated Chrome native support for their webplayer so here is to hoping we get the option to build out to Linux in the near future!

There is a little good news though, we have heard positive results using wine emulation to run Kinetic Void, so even though its not the best solution, it is an option!

quote:

Is there, or will there be Linux support?
We would love to have Linux support, however Kinetic Void is built on Unity3d, which currently does not build out to Linux native, I have received reports that it does run in wine however. If and when Unity3d is capable of publishing to Linux we will add a Linux version.

I don't know how that tracker works exactly, but you have to keep in mind that a lot of KickStarters will start out stronger than usual in the first day or so and then taper off. You've probably got a little bit of that going, with something like 20%-30% of your backing from the first two days coming straight from these forums. As great as we are, the "SA effect" is more than likely done helping.

So, yeah, you definitely need a lucky break with the press. This isn't what I do, so don't take me as an expert, but if I were you I'd spend this time digging up every single press contact you can find, linking them the demo, explaining your game's "core fun" in 1-2 very concise and well-written sentences, and offering whatever other incentives you can think of for some coverage. This is pretty important -- a lot of people just resign themselves to being a "niche genre," which is a mistake. Even niche genres are fun for a reason. Explain why they're fun as if your audience doesn't know -- because they probably, for the most part, don't. Just go nuts with this, spend as much time contacting press as you can stand to. There's nothing else more important you can be doing right now.

Behold, I come bearing bug reports! Not very interesting ones, though.

Updating:
- The updater is not included in the main download
- If the updater is not installed (see above), clicking "check for updates" in game fails silently
- If the updater is installed, clicking "check for updates" exits the game even if there are no updates available

Design:
- If you delete your entire ship (say, by accidentally right-click-Ring the central component), the "starter cube" doesn't come back and you need to completely exit the game to get it back (or load a saved design)
- related to the above, there appears to be no way to start from scratch other than exiting and restarting the game

Feature requests:
- Some kind of symmetry tool
- Part scaling - I was actually surprised to find out that there were controls for "rotate" and "next attachpoint" but not "resize"

Feature requests:
- Some kind of symmetry tool - We are looking into this, but its pretty difficult considering our system is not designed around symmetry at all
- Part scaling - I was actually surprised to find out that there were controls for "rotate" and "next attachpoint" but not "resize" - This is very intentional as there is size tiers. The size of a module directly correlates to the size of its sub-systems menu, which is in game, but not visible in the public view. Being able to freely scale parts would mean you could make a Dreadnought the size of frigate, and would unbalance things considerably, especially when you take hit boxes and locational damage into account.
