My bet's still on Mario. It just feels natural, like they could implement him without even mentioning it to anybody beforehand, Nintendo included, and nobody would bat an eye.

I don't believe N would allow Mario to feature in a game like this without headlining.

Seriously, I want Sega to start a DYNASTY with this series. If they keep releasing excellent mascot racers then they actually have a shot at taking MK down, which is what makes this super exciting, because I'm tired of how complacent Nintendo has gotten with just releasing mediocre and unfun MK games all the time.

You know, this is a good point. I did like Mario Kart 7 a lot (MKWii was AWFUL though), but a little friendly competition might finally make Nintendo realize "hey, blue shells are awful" and change a lot of the other dated fundamentals to the series. Or maybe that's wishful thinking.

Plus, Sega is totally banking on this game financially too, no? After all the good games they've pumped out lately I'd be prepared to get it on that virtue alone--but I got the chance to play it at Comic Con and it actually owned pretty hard so I'll definitely be getting it now. It is a REALLY solid racer and I wasn't expecting that after the first game was honestly kind of rear end.

British developer Sumo Digital has found the Wii U's graphical capability to be "on-par" with current generation consoles - "or maybe even better".

The Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed developer divulged the information to Eurogamer as we tested out the upcoming racer's Wii U version.

The 3DS and Wii U versions will exclusively support Mii characters, Sumo also confirmed.

The racer allows you to pilot both aircraft and boat forms of your vehicle - necessary for each course's airborne and aquatic sections. It's similar to Nintendo's own racer Mario Kart 7 in this regard, although Sega said that their project was started first.

The Wii U version allows players to use the GamePad screen for Remote Play, or alternatively as a second display offering a rear view.

You can even use the GamePad screen as a weapon-cam, allowing you to guide homing rockets around the course. But this feature can also demonstrate the perils of glancing from screen-to-screen: Eurogamer saw one racer look down to fire his rocket, stop racing, and manage to shoot himself instead.
No mention is given to any other Nintendo exclusives, so I'm thinking that Miis are the only one. I'm going to guess the same is probably true of Avatars on the 360 - though saying that, Banjo was only revealed two months before the release of ASR1, and we're not quite at that point yet.

On the other hand, there are 29 characters, and the E3 character select screen on PS3 had 25 slots. That was likely before they adjusted the UI to accommodate Danica and Ralph. If the UI at that point was designed to just have spaces for all the Sega characters, then Danica, Ralph, Miis and Avatars are all the guest stars.

Wii U's version is "on par" with current gen consoles? That's disappointing. I was expecting it to be exceptional and be able to do graphics like current A-list PC games. Of course I can't say I was too hopeful after seeing how much worse Arkham City looked on the thing.

This is apparently a Wii U launch title in North America. I felt the Wii version of the original was really well-done, so I'm looking forward to it.

Additionally, there was a podcast with the producer as a guest. I haven't had the chance to listen to it all yet, but I've heard from other forums discussions' that there's private online lobbies and online rankings, along with a co-op mode?

I'm somewhat worried, every preview I see says the framerate of this game was atrocious. I didn't get a chance to really do much with the original game but was the framerate alright in that version?

I never really had any issues except when playing split screen on some stages that had ridiculous effects all around, like the Samba de Amigo stuff. But that's just on the PC version, the 360 one was fine.

The only framerate complaints I've read have been about the Wii U version, and the devs keep insisting that it's just due to outdated demo builds and that it'll be fine at launch.

Destructoid has an article up about the music for the game up now features a mashup/remix of Richard Jacques' own Everybody Jump Around and Hideki Naganuma's That's Enough for the JSR sample. Also some dubstep as hell Outrun music that isn't bad. It's an interesting read for sure, and I'm excited to hear the full versions.

I don't think the Outrun Dubstep is too bad since the racing in this is a bit more intense. So it needs a bit of a kick compared to the more chilled Outrun music.

They did say that they would be using the three Main music tracks for Outrun (Splash Wave/Passing Breeze/Magical Sound Shower) so its not like anyone loses here. Plus, the composer of this game, Richard Jacques, made this too. So he gets a pass forever.

Holy poo poo, it actually is just a straight up Hot Wheels car. I am laughing far too much at this.

Is that music a remix of anything? I assumed it was Super Monkey Ball, but near the end it started to sound more like some generic licensed dubstep track. Also, I can't believe I just noticed this, but the tagline for this game is loving stupid amazing. "It's not just racing, it's racing transformed." Brilliant, guys.

Ralph looks more suited to a Flintstones style vehicle, which would have been hilarious given how angry folks got over Sonic's car ownership in the first game.

Gamepad can be used as the main screen (i.e. supports "off TV play"), or map, rear view, weapon cam, or opponent cam so you can see what someone else is seeing. And other than local 5 player there's also two more multiplayer modes added on.

This mentions a few things I haven't heard mentioned before, repeated here for people (like me normally) who don't normally click this stuff:

-An Afterburner track, Carrier Zone, with a complex air show going on in the background.
-The Sonic Colors stage is called Galactic Parade. And it includes the appearing path from the Starlight Carnival, which as you can imagine is a bit tough.
-The NiGHTS level is Dream Valley, mostly based on Spring Valley. It includes a Nightmare section with different NiGHTS bosses every lap.
-A Shinobi level, fairly simple with the course changing seasons every lap.

Apparently the Wii U version is also really really good.

Yeah I'm switching my pre order from Rayman to this since Rayman was delayed. Is it known what control options this will support on Wii U? I'll use the pad myself, but I'm wondering if I can still hand wiimotes to my friends, or classic controllers, if I'll need nunchucks, if I'll need the new controller pro.

I was just wondering about that since I preordered a few minutes ago. Searched this thread where a dev is answering questions, looks like it does, along with remote+nunchuck and the CC Pro (not sure whether he meant the new non "classic" Pro controller or if it just supports both the old and new ones).

I think the 3DS version got delayed into 2013 in Europe, unsure about Vita, and the iOS version has never had a fixed date to start with.

New video from the most recent demo, which would appear to be running the final build of the game given the achievement notifications and Ristar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d5Up9iyXmk
If you look very closely early on in the race (about 35 seconds in), you can see MeeMee from Super Monkey Ball. I could kind of understand the reason for including Reala and Gum, given that they both have HD remakes that came out before the game, but I'm less sure of the logic here. Unless a Super Monkey Ball HD Collection is announced, but even then, she isn't really a memorable character.
