This looks dumb and bad and I won't play it. It does, however, make me want to play Skyrim some more so that's a thing I guess.

Have a smoke. Coffee? You're welcome.

Funny. It seems they are determined to make the MMO not appeal at all to their current customers. I guess that's one way to make sure a new product doesn't negatively impact your original market - make the new product distasteful and unappealing to that market. Kind of like having Taco Bell come out with a new product - haggis ice-cream cones.

This is the haggis of games.

Some like taking friends on adventures. M'aiq thinks being alone is better. Less arguing about splitting treasure. Others just get in the way. And they talk, talk, talk.

Pretty much. What really sucks, is we have constant regurgitation of designers/management within the MMORPG genre itself, and hence forth, never see anything new. Just rehashed unoriginal garbage.

For me, the setting is off. We already know what happens within the entire storyline here. If they went on way before Arena and developed a completely different story about things we never knew about, 5,000 years back, that would have been different. It's too soon.

It will be interesting to see if anything new comes out at E3 with this, but as of right now, all it looks like is a money grab for subscription revenue based on the amount of gametime we spend in their single player games.

You know, setting aside the success of the previous format and looking at the Elder Scrolls lore alone I'm still excited enough to play this for a month or two when it releases.

I'm getting an ominous flashback to Fallout: Tactics, and Brotherhood of Steel though. Non-fallout games in the Fallout universe didn't work, it wouldn't be surprising if the same held true for the Elder Scrolls series.

Let's not forget that Bethesda released Battlespire and Redguard, which despite being fairly good games (I hear, never played them) almost drove the company into bankruptcy and the salvation of the company was... Morrowind.

Cluster bombing from B-52s is very, very accurate. The bombs are guaranteed to always hit the ground.

God drat it. All they had to do was add co-op to Skyrim, yet they even manage to gently caress that up and basically make a WoW clone from what we know so far.

I mean, no realtime combat due to lag? They're not even trying, are they?

Redgaurd wasn't bad it was just a very limited experience compared to other TES games. No character creation, you're a specific pre-defined character involved in a specific plot that you are more or less confined to, and the whole game takes place on one small island with one small town. It just didn't have the freedom and exploration of other TES games and the gameplay was much more limited, and it was also billed as an adventure game not an RPG so it didn't really appeal much to fans of Daggerfall (where you had an incredibly massive world to explore)

Yeah, they were fairly good games, they just weren't good TES games was what I meant.

I'm intrigued to see how they go with this. Is the opposite of cautiously optimistic nervously pessimistic? Because if so, that's where I am!

TES has succeeded because they deliver something no other game delivers- a wide open sandbox with a sensible leveling system and questlines that are more like guidelines, but not actually 'YOU MUST DO THIS NOW'.

It will NOT succeed with the normal TES fan because it strips everything that makes TES out. It will have to succeed with us on its own merits. And I doubt that it will do so.

Still, it is the first MMO I am considering getting into, because I love Tamriel.

No matter how much you love TES as a setting, remember Dragonbreak is already a concept, it breaks canon by not allowing you to play as CHIM and realize there's literally nothing to get from this game because it will end up being an extremely generic fantasy game.

Microsoft has bandwidth restrictions that would make an MMO impossible (the only one was FFXI and that's probably dead) and sales of PS3 games just don't hold a candle to Xbox's. I'm surprised Dust-whatever will be a PS3 exclusive considering the sales numbers of online only PS3 titles.

FFXI on the 360 is still functional, if a little depopulated these days.

I wonder if by the next decade MMO designers will get over the basic EQ/WoW gameplay model. Such a shame they are trying nothing new here.

Why does it look so bad though? Bethesda isn't known for their amazing art design but Morrowind and some elements like the Daedra were more interesting. While this looks really bad like worse than TOR and so drat generic. It actually looks a lot like EQ2 except maybe a bit more generic.

The gooniest goon of all. Goon. p.s. LOL Goon.

Why would they put any resources toward this? Even if it is a different studio and resources, they are still piling money into it.

Bethesda are the KINGS of single player RPGs, yet now they are joining the ranks of every other "me-too" publisher who churns out the same generic grinding garbage that focuses on keeping players playing, not immersive, polished, personal narratives, which Bethesda does like no one else.

I have a guild for you. A bunch of other lore-fags are anointing Michael Kirkbride (former dev, writer of really incomprehensible lore) as our leader. We're going to make him Emperor or die trying.

I think we're also going to go around speaking incomprehensible gibberish and pointing out inconsistencies.

Want to make a good TES MMO? Easy.

You take Ultima Online...
- Make it first person
- Make it 3D (optional)
- Remove all the retarded lonely 13 year old's fanfiction lore
- Insert awesome lore
- Make Advanced your only class option, add in cat people and all that other poo poo
- SHIP IT.

This is all shaping up to be like when that kinda weird kid in your class, who's only gone to a few of the discussions, comes in super late on the last day and hands in a crumpled, too-short, not-even-stapled term paper. The professor has to get all quietly exasperated, and tell the kid (but everyone can hear) that he should just finish it up over the next week and hand it in late. Topping it off, it's kinda painfully clear that the kid only half-realizes what's wrong with the whole situation.
