You can either not play, or you can have four hours of superhappyfunaweseometime. Whichever you choose is probably fine.

I think that timing the stress tests for both peak Euro time and also Anet office hours is the smartes thing they could do. If you are working during the stress tests, take the money earned and put it aside for your Gem Budget when the game launches so you don't feel as bad about it.

Inzombiac posted:Pretty good video that never mentions GW2 but inadvertently tells us why it is so well designed. I actually thought it was pretty poor, that's not at all how I've seen power creep normally used. Guild Wars 1 is a good example of power creep - where abilities were supposed to be equally viable, but because you got more options your overall power unintentionally increased, both in relation to other players and content. This is completely different to adding 10 levels in an expansion, which is a deliberately planned gear reset and power boost. Power creep in WoW would be things like unforeseen stat scaling over successive raid tiers (like very high armor penetration in Wrath) giving an unintentional boost to the overall power of a class. It's far from clear that GW2 has the silver bullet for keeping old areas populated - they have the exact same problem of thinning the population whenever new content is added, and players will still gravitate towards new content just because it's new. GW1 had 3 1/2 continents (ie. a comfortable majority of the game) of max level content all theoretically of the appropriate level for end-game, but it was always the most recent continent that was busiest.

It's worth noting that high level and newest content being the busiest is not a problem so long as there is enough participation in other areas. The new feeling will always exist but it will also always fade. I think that once it does people will disperse within reason throughout the region because of the level/reward scaling and even more so because people get bored repeating the same stuff over and over regardless of whether or not that "stuff" is the best that the game has to offer. Top that off with ANet committing to release new events everywhere instead of only the highest level and/or new zones and there you go. There is a lot of value placed on variety and options. I think GW2 is going to successfully capitalize on that.

All of this depends on how baller the Orr zone is. If it's the epic struggle for territory that I imagine it to be in my head I'm basically never leaving.

^^^ That sort of thing will be why certain zones will be the busiest, but if past experience tells us anything it is that even the best content feels boring after enough repetition. Personally, I will probably also be amongst the crowd that spends a lot of time in the busier zones, but I will also mix it up regularly because for me that is what is going to keep things feeling the freshest and most fun. Not to mention I am absolutely sick and tired of high level repetition whether it be in the form of raids, PvP, or whatever. I want variety and I want it to feel meaningful and fun more than anything.

Having people or not having people is only relevant if it is critically important for you to do the dynamic events with many other people. Even high level zones can be mostly soloed. Every once in awhile you come across a "hey dude groups only here" event, especially in the siege type events, but even some of those can be defeated by a clever player. The point is the entire system is designed around never being blocked from enjoying the content which is what people bitch in other games when they are an expansion behind on a ghost server.

Yeah, but having more people running around makes the world feel more alive. There comes a point where over crowding sours the experience too, but dead zones are also bad even when all of the content can be completed. That plus, as you mentioned, the meta and boss events usually require multiple people and those events are arguably the most fun in the game.

This four-hour test event will run on Wednesday, June 27th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. PDT (GMT-7). Saying PDT and GMT-7 is saying two different timezones in the same sentence. As an australian I am culturally ignorant of such nuances so I can only assume they mean one or the other because GMT-7 and PDT are completely different according to my great big clock.

The reason people are getting confused is that we're currently in BST not GMT in England. So the stress test actually starts at 6pm, NOT 5pm as the -7 would suggest.

Every official time they've posted has always been based on Pacific time. If they screw up the time (in relation to GMT) it's pretty safe to assume the correct one is the Pacific time one. Especially because they are IN that time zone.
