I'm trying to resist the urge to grab a used VF5 for my 360 since it's $7 at GameStop. Really the fact that it's GameStop is what is stopping me

Or I could raid my attic and try and find my fat launch PS2, my copy of VF4:Evo, and pray to the laser gods it reads properly!

That was a fun event. I mad at two guys though. They set the game to best of 9, 60 second rounds and wouldn't get off the station with people waiting behind them asking for next game. The event staff were nice about and kicked them off though.

Thanks so much for all the video links! My boy Kage is lookin GOOD, got all his old tricks from VF4 that I remember, plus a shoryuken? (I know he's had that since Final Tuned, but I haven't touched VF since then) VF4 Evo was when I first started trying to learn FGs for real, bought a stick (one of those lovely X-Arcades at that) and did my best to learn everything the tutorial mode had to teach. I loved that game so much but still had no idea about a local scene to play it in, now I get to play it again with (presumably) awesome online, hooray!

I actually bought TWO copies of VF4 Evo when it came out and gave one to my friend and his brother to share. I told them each if they could get good enough to beat me I'd give them 20 bucks. They tried, but they never collected

I owned a stick and VF4:Evo before I owned a PS2. I only bought a 360 because VF5 came out for it, and the same month I bought my xbox, I spent a fortune on a custom stick

The kind of people who want to do fighting game commentary are generally not people I want commentating things.

It's all very amateur and distracting/not interesting. It's like college radio.

Listen to hockey on the radio (or watch the original Rollerball) sometime.
After that, amateur commentary for fast-paced, real-time action will never sound right again.

Yeah, there's a reason why the synonym for punk music is "amateur band practice": It simply isn't as good as the professionals.
And on that relative scale, it sounds bad by comparison.

The same way the best double A baseball player looks like crap playing against Major Leaguers.
If they can't keep up with the level of action, they're just going to look bad, even if they're alright at the lower levels.

If you want, I'll be happy to digress, but I'd rather talk about how cool this game will be.

Having been convinced to watch part of the Eurovision semi-final, I have to say that the performance stage would make for one Hell of an open arena; what with the fireworks, flames, laser lights, and other crazy poo poo.

Is VF5:FS still based on 3 primary buttons, with every other button being a combination of some sort? Haven't played this series in a long time, but am excited for this release.

I don't think my Mortal Kombat layout would work well in VF, so I'm thinking of making another custom stick with as few buttons on the face as possible.

The wierdo in me wants a stick with the buttons laid out as follows:

code:
  O
O O O
 O O
Top button is P+K+G

Middle row is G, P, and K as on the SEGA console versions

Bottom row is P+G and K+G, respectively.

Especially for a 3 button game. Seems like it would be more difficult and take more time to move your finger to a shortcut button than to just press two fingers down.

For anyone wondering about the X360 demo, it'll include Taka, Jean, Sarah and Jacky and let you play Score Attack and some of the training mode stuff, and will be released at the same time as the full game.

Info on the Special Sparring mode is out: just as we thought, it's a mode that lets you fight a succession of customised AI opponents, kinda like Tekken/Soul Calibur's quick match modes, or VF's Quest Mode minus the quests.

There is a catch, though: you can't play Special Sparring unless you've purchased all the DLC, according to one of Haunts' streams of the final release... again, this is due to the dress-up data not being included with the initial download.

Release is really soon!

Is there some sort of gameplay guides out there for Jean or Taka? I figure with a new game I should try to learn a new character, and not just stay in my Wolf/Vanessa cave.

VFDC has been updating with the new command lists and whatnot but I don't think they've started doing character-specific stuff just yet. There was talk of Haunts maybe commissioning some dudes to do stuff for 1UP but who knows if that'll happen.

Probably a goof, but...

quote:

Virtua Fighter 5 Showdown: Complete Edition – The fifth entry in SEGA’s advanced, realistic fighting game series. Once again, the realtime level of visual detail and character animation has been upped to the most advanced levels, with next-generation lighting and detail on the fighters and environments. Players will be able to customize their characters by selecting from various patterned costumes and a wide range of attachable items that can be placed onto each fighter’s various body parts. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but will also compete for prizes and earn in-game money through the match to buy many items at an in-game shop.

Sony announced an expansion of the Playstation Plus service at E3 which includes more free games for subscribers, one of which is VF5. They showed the original release during their presentation, but hopefully that was a goof and they're giving away FS instead.

I dont pay much attention to Playstation Plus, but does it often give away games that are so new? I could see them giving away vanilla VF5 to hook people into buying Final Showdown for 15 bucks.

Original VF5 isn't on PSN. For it to be vanilla they would have to put it on PSN the same day as Final Showdown, which wouldn't make sense.
