somebeachsomewhere Awesome technique, but I also cringed a bit ('Eep, how did she tear off all her nails past the quick?'). Maybe sponge a tiny bit of yellow or yellower beige as sand? A star fish, sand dollar or seahorse would be neat though as accents.

Good to know! I've definitely worried about that with this color before. I can't sleep (drat cat), so I'll work on some mixing and change that color up a bit! Thanks guys!

Edit: Ok, so I did some mixing and sponged some extra color on the sand, but I wasn't sure how much more color that added. So out came the footprints and starfish! Do they still look like they're broken off? Ugh, I think my thumb still does.

1. The unconscious or true inner self of an individual, as opposed to the persona, or outer aspect of the personality.

Today I finally used Ants in My Pants. I put a layer of Essie Licorice down first. Usually I LOVE giant brushes, but the Spoiled line's are also floofy. The new regular Wet n Wild ones are awesome (same with Sally Hansen Salon Manicure) but I don't know why these are all fluffy and weird.

Does anyone have tips for covering the whole nail plate up to the cuticle evenly? As you can see I took too much off during cleanup, tried to paint it back on and failed. I'm also mildly impaired muscular wise, especially in my hands, so if anyone has tips for a shaky bastard fire away.

The other mustache cat got her nails done too, she is a butt and likes to scratch my mom's new furniture. Sorry Reba, now you're fabulous.

In other news, my wishlist of polishes is the smallest it's ever been! There's only a few left that I want badly enough to purchase. None of the collections lately have been that interesting to me.

Those rumours that LA Colours Hardener/Strengthener is great under holos is true, btw. I only have the Colour Club ones though so YMMV, it was worth it for a buck. Since it's a hardener, should I just use it sparingly or is it okay to use as my regular base?

I was going to take more pics of Fuego's awesomeness yesterday but I managed to rip off a chunk of skin about a centimeter big off the tip of my finger at work and I don't want to share that. I will when its not as gruesome. This polish is still amazing and I love love love it. It's also lasting really well on me too. Usually polish wont last a whole day without chipping on me because my job is so hard on my hands but so far no chips except for the accident finger! You did an amazing job Rufus.

Yeah, the Spoiled brushes are kinda iffy. I like the size, but it's like they were shaped with a lawnmower -- so choppy!

I've gotten a lot better at application since I first started my nail hobby, but I'm still a little shaky, so I finally took the advice of everyone here (and what bloggers use as well) and bought a thin, sharp edged makeup brush for clean-up. Dip it in a little acetone and use it to clean up around your cuticles, using the cuticle itself as a guideline. Now my polish looks a hell of a lot better and even lasts longer because when it floods the cuticles and dries partially to the skin, it becomes a weak point where the polish will peel up off the nail more easily.

In my experience, polish hasn't really hurt my nails. I think it's the taking it off with acetone-containing remover multiple times a week that has given me a similar problem.
I make sure to pamper my hands at least once a week (exfoliate and slap on a bunch of lotion) between applying polish. It seems to keep it in check - if I skip it, the peeling gets way worse.

I'm wearing Fuego on my toes. I figure no one wants to see my bony feet though, so no pics. Still, it is gorgeoussss.

Instead, my current mani. First jelly sandwich I've done, consisting of CG Innocence and NOPI Rainbow in the S-Kylie, with other nails done up with CG For Audrey.

Pic featuring the painted-up binder I use to paint my nails on. And also for removing fibers from my brush with.

Funny story, CG Innocence was one of the first polishes I bought when I started getting into nails back in December. I was super frustrated with how light and sheer it is because I didn't know it was a jelly -- or what a jelly was, at the time. Hadn't used it at all since then, but I was reading some recs for good jellies other day and ed when I saw someone suggesting Innocence. Totally made me dig it out again and use it properly.

I'm not sure what Rufus used, but I think that's a lot. I used 1/8th of a gram (of the green/blue Konfusion, which is the only thing I have a small sample of right now) in a 0.5ml bottle with 3 drops of black polish and it's pretty strong.

The weird thing about it was that it was very disappointing/muted when I first mixed it and then a day or day and a half later all the colors appear stronger in the bottle. It must take a while to dissolve fully, or there's some interference it does with the couple of drops of black I put in, so it seems to appear not as strong as you'd like it to be initially. I swatched it right after mixing and a few days later and it looks different (stronger) over black.

Also, I recommend the 2-3 drops of black polish with duochromes. It doesn't affect the nail color much at all but the bottle color is very obvious (and mesmerizing).

(Fumed silica in top coat update: suspends the duochrome (and similar) pigments fully and permanently, but spectraflair half sinks after three days. Ultrafine glitter is suspended, the rest is mostly sunk. Luster base (or maybe pearl base) clone it seems to be - which makes sense, it's milky white too; oh well!).

Ninja Kitty, the duochrome pigments from the Spectraflair person on Facebook are the three Konfusion ones (if you haven't gotten them yet), and the duochrome/shifting glitters from Youmix are JDSU Chromaflair Chromashift glitters (identical to Ozotic Elytra glitters), and really, really, really, worth getting, at least a sample of.

So I know this makes me a bad polisher but... jelly sandwiches. I don't get it. I know the concept is jelly -> glitter -> jelly but is it done just so the glitter looks deeper or more muted or so it is glossier or what? I guess what I don't understand is why you wouldn't just do the glitter and then a normal top coat and then be done with it.

Not yet! Next week hopefully and then I will compare my "end of straw" measures with their drops/pinches,etc.

I picked the blue/green duochrome too from the Spectrafair deal, hah! They restocked the youmix glitters this week (including all duochromes - came in a few days ago, mine was backordered actually), and they have the 15% off until tonight (check their new site, http://www.shopyoumix.com/). And no, you can't have too many smilies!

I think jelly sandwiches are for making layers that look a bit more 3d? Or maybe to use up your polishes faster when you have too many transparent ones

edit: Nevermind, Ninja Kitty . Those glitters *were* in stock but sold out in the last 24hours. Insane!

They have a a lot of solid non-shimmery colors, and different glitters. But their base/topcoats are lovely and some of the glitters dissolve my base color.

If you're willing to saw and paint stuff, use 2x4 lumber. Seriously. cut the length to match the width of your shelf, paint it a nice colour, and then stand them on the 2" side - the 4" side is actually only 3.5" and is the exact height of a bottle of polish. Stack a few in front of one another and you've got custom tiered shelves, with none the wiser as to exactly how ghetto they are.

Edit:
How my stash looked roughly a year ago. You can see how the (super-ghetto unpainted) lumber works out.
