"420 smoke durgs erry day" is the greatest seed I've found. It's a mindfuck if you like extremely maze like caves, falling into huge dark voids, and weird lovecraftian "am I supposed to actually find these things?" moments. Also there are random crosses in the world. poo poo's crazy

So the game hasn't even been out a week and already people have found a glitch to let you dupe items. Pretty cool if you're into building huge things, or just miss creative mode. I'll spoiler in case some of you guys don't want to know how for whatever reason. You need 2 people or 2 controllers, a dispenser and a chest. Put the original item (Not a dupe, it won't work otherwise) you want to dupe in the dispenser, keep the dispenser menu open while the other player/controller destroys the dispenser. You'll notice you now have 64 of that item. Place it in your inventory (Not the hotbar!) and head to a chest, then hold down X to place one repeatedly. At the end of the stack of 64, move one space across and you'll have another 64 of that item. Repeat until satisfied/rich as gently caress.

I built a hobbit hole house on the top of a hill close to the spawn. I was poking around and directly under my house is a cave that appears to go to the depths of hell. I could hear the dead groaning under my house. Soon I'll have to venture down and vanquish them.

My save glitched or something... when I loaded my world I was in a dark cave on the other end of the map, not as deep underground as I was digging when I saved and under a friggin ocean. Finally dug my way out but I really hope this doesn't happen regularly.

What the hell is a dispenser supposed to do anyway? Does it normally duplicate things? The in-game description just says it 'shoots out things'. I made one at some point but the game crashed and I lost about two hours, including the source material for the dispenser.westcoaster posted:Whats the deal with monster's spawning next to me while I'm sleeping. Put a thing in a dispenser and when it's activated, that thing pops out. Arrows, for example. Those pop out really fast, meaning you've just created an arrow trap. Now make the temple from the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I'm having a major problem with the Nether. I built my portal(s) and entered/exited them just fine 10+ times. Saved and quit, and came back, and can now no longer enter the nether at all. My entire xbox hard locks when I try, and I am forced to actually unplug the power cord to turn it off. This has been going on since day after launch, as I built my portal late that night and was unable to enter after waking up the next day. I'm not the only one having the issue, as a quick search tells me, but most people can enter the nether fine and simply can never exit. There's also a probably-unrelated bug involving saving in the nether and loading the game above the bedrock ceiling. I've tried every solution anyone has posted, even weird and off-the-wall type stuff. I deleted all the worlds except my main world, deleted and redownloaded the game, I deleted some random content to make space on my hard drive, I plugged in a chatpad (hey, someone claimed it worked), I tried in both online and offline mode, connected and disconnected, with and without other players, in splitscreen and out (with my main profile, a guest profile, and a friend's gold-enabled profile) and even on someone else's Xbox (but my hard drive). Crashes every time. I'd chalk it up as a particularly annoying bug and ignore it until we get an update, except nobody else has ever had a problem entering the nether in my world, including people who have the crashing issue in their own world. I do seem to be able to enter and exit just fine in other peoples' worlds, but haven't tested in another of my own worlds yet because finding a source of obsidian and some diamonds is a bit time-consuming and I'd rather spend that time working on the structures I'm building in my main wold. Anyone else having this problem, and/or found a potential workaround that I've not listed? Maybe I should count myself lucky because I've read a lot of people having freezing issues with saving, and problems with worlds being deleted. Compared to that, this is pretty tame I guess. westcoaster posted:Whats the deal with monster's spawning next to me while I'm sleeping. Everything around me is lit up. I don't know what to do. In this version of the game, a bed is not safe unless it's two blocks away from a spot where a monster can spawn (any dark spot) AND in a place where monsters cannot wander into. If monsters are waking you up, either you have a spot somewhere in your house that is too dark and not blocked off entirely with walls and/or doors, you have a hole in your house somewhere, or your bed is against a single-tile thick wall. It's probably the last one, so either make sure all your walls are two tiles thick, or place your beds not touching any external walls. Another solution is to build your bedroom above ground level, either in a second floor or a stilted/floating home. This way, you don't have to worry about the walls and can just make sure the room is lit and doored/walled off.

SixtySix posted:Does a dispenser duplicate the items you put in? No (although a dispenser is used in the dupe glitch, if you are into that [don't do it, it will ruin the game]), a dispenser doesn't duplicate anything on its own. For most items, a dispenser is pretty much useless except for show. It just shoots out items when it gets a charge. Most of the time, people are just as likely to open the dispenser to take out the items like a chest than to push a button to receive the item. It's mostly useful when combined with arrows, eggs, or snowballs as those items become a projectile that can damage or push back enemies or other players. You can also use a series of dispensers as a sort of automatic preparation system; a hallway lined with dispensers and pressure plates that you walk through and come out on the other end with everything you need to go spelunking or with the essentials for recovering your lost stuff (armor, weapon, pickaxes, torches, etc).

Looking forward to those pistons, I need a super fancy door for my castle wall. It will well with the artificial river and lake I built outside it last night with Aishan. (Thanks dude.) Also had my first cave-diving adventure, came up with enough iron to build three stacks of rail, so I'm 40% of the way towards my achievement railway. Oh, and I rebuilt my stairway in the mountain. I can't think why I ended up only getting to bed at 4 in the morning. I have converted my friend to this game! He wasn't sure at first, because he was messing around in the tutorial, but I guess he's one of those guys who prefers that people show him stuff, rather than read a bunch of text (and he's an avid reader, too, so I don't know). Anyway, showed him my now-puny world, explained how crafting generally works (make this from this, but first you need this and this...), and he's all-aboard now. One of the complaints he originally had was that this game shoves in his face how uncreative he is (his words). That, apparently, doesn't come in to play when all you REALLY want to do is build a shack and be safe at night from monsters.

Once you have built it, use flint and steel to set it on fire and activate the portal. Easiest way to do it is to create the mould via placing lava one block at a time, rather than actually picking and placing obsidian (this is assuming you don't have a diamond pickaxe yet). If you have two metal buckets (can be done with one, though obviously it'd take longer) and access to water and lava, you can create the outline of the portal. To make obsidian where you want it, put cobble around a 1x1 space, pour lava in so it's a 'source' block (not flowing) and then drop water in one of the blocks near it. The water will flow onto the lava, creating obsidian. Chip away the cobble, and repeat for the rest of them.
