There's the Star Trek teaser from about 3 years ago. I remember seeing it before Cloverfield.

This actually got me all excited about the new movie.

Edit: replaced it with better version

And here's the Aliens teaser, which follows a similar format to Alien

The shots of the egg (which looks like an egg, but has those weird pimples) are replaced with shots of a harsh, alien (har har) landscape, followed by shots from the movie with the same harsh, electronic screeching music from the previous film's teaser. In a way, it's establishing its pedigree as the sequel to a masterpiece, but also establishing its own identity within the franchise.

http://youtu.be/fheA6Ua_nNc

The Alien3 teaser deliberately apes the Alien poster with the egg and implies an interesting plotline involving the game over scenario of the xenomorphs making it to Earth, which obviously never happened. I guess it's just another example of the problems that movie had in production.

http://youtu.be/Bk_x9W1xKng

The Alien Resurrection trailer just feels really generic and there really isn't much else to say about it.

http://youtu.be/ci9nf8uW0uk

Here's the Alien vs Predator teaser. Shockingly enough, it actually does look like it could be amazing, but unlike the other teasers, it shows us nothing from the movie.

http://youtu.be/j1sTgQj0Nec

I can't find the AvP:R teaser, and I'm not sure if one was ever made.

And while I'm at it, here's the Prometheus teaser. There's a clear influence from the Alien teaser, but the change in the music and slight shift in structure tells us that while it may be related to the Alien franchise, it's also going to be somewhat separate.

When did the Voice Over Man stop appearing in trailers? It occurred to me that it had been a while and I think the Negotiator trailer might be one of the last ones I remember hearing that voice in it and it kind of dates the trailer so much.

I remember the Dark City trailer stood out to me at the time because of a lack of voice over in it.

Here's one from the other side of the world. It's for Boy, about a Maori boy growing up in the East Coast region on the North Island of New Zealand. It's not as misleading as the Bridge to Terabithia trailer, it still does not prepare the audiences for the sudden poignant turn the film takes in the second half.

So the trailer for Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby is out.

The two guys that appear at around the 0:30 mark of the fake Star Trek XII trailer are from a scene lifted from Alien Resurrection - the second guy is in fact Brad Dourif, who by the way did appear in several episodes of Star Trek Voyager. It comes from the scene where the Queen embryo is surgically removed from the Ripley clone.

The shot of Benedict Cumberbatch looks like a bad photoshop effect placed over a screencap from Sherlock as well - and that's probably exactly what it is.

I'm surprised anyone fell for such an obvious fake.

The problem with that argument is that his movies have gotten progressively shittier. The scripts he writes suck poo poo and the work for hire movie he did sucked even more poo poo, more than Lady in the Water.

He deserves to have people groan or laugh when his name shows up in a trailer.

A couple of teasers for Man of Steel. The content is more or less the same, but there is one key difference.

This version features a voiceover by Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent.

And this one has Russell Crowe narrating as Jor-El.

Am I the only person who sees a double standard in people attacking The Hurt Locker for not being "realistic" while The Bridge on the River Kwai gets a pass for taking creative liberties?

GD_American posted:

Considering nobody here mentioned the second movie at all, you probably are

Not here specifically, but in general. When's the last time you saw someone having a right go at David Lean for the ending of The Bridge on the River Kwai? Or any old well-regarded war movie, really like Zulu. The titular bridge in The Bridge on the River Kwai not only was not blown up, it was in use for a couple of decades after the war. Similarly in Zulu, there was no attack at dawn on the 23rd of January, 1873 like in the film and there certainly was no defiant rendition of Men of Harlech. The inaccuracy those films are given a pass, but The Hurt Locker is taken to task because of inaccuracies and to me, that represents a significant double standard.

That's probably enough of this derail anyway.

Here's something weird I heard from a coworker. He was at the movies and they played a trailer for The Fifth Estate (the Wikileaks movie.) He said people started shouting "traitor" at the screen.

What I'm more confused about is the fact that people are shouting at a movie theatre. I've also often seen many Amerigoons talking about cheering and hooting and hollering at the movies, and I don't get it. Are people incapable of shutting the gently caress up at the movies? We generally don't get that sort of malarkey over here in NZ, so it's just completely alien and confusing to me.
