Silverstone is launching two interesting cases like that pretty soon, the ML08:

and the successor to the Raven, the RVZ02:

I could see myself getting one of those.
The RVZ01 and ML07 and FTZ01 already exist, and these new versions are basically the same case dimensions but slimmer due to removing ALL case fans. It remains to be seen whether that's a good idea or not.

But at least a small NANO sized videocard will let you fit a 3.5" hd in those cases, since the only room for one is next to the video card, unlike the RVZ01/ML07/FTZ01.

I mean, *I* think it makes sense. When the device's heatsink fans are right up against the case wall, so you don't need to move air into the case with other fans for the components to cool themselves, that's extra space you can use for say, wider/deeper heatsink fins.
Right, that's the theory, but we'll see how well it works in practice

Biggest human being Ever posted:

I certainly hope the thermals work out, I find the slimmer cases to be a lot more visually appealing.
Right, but the RVZ01/ML07/FTZ01 are already really thin. They've shaved off another 2-3 cm in making the RVZ02/ML08, but it's nothing huge. We'll see if it is worth it.

Apparently not so well, at least with the fractal node 202 and a high end GPU: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1464-page5.html
The GPU was significantly throttled just running Resident Evil 6.
While the node 202 is very similar in concept and design, it does not have the GPU right up against the holes in the case, so it might perform very differently. We will see.

Biggest human being Ever posted:

The difference is not enormous but I'd say it's definitely noticeable, it is roughly 20% slimmer after all. Also, my use case for these cases would be as kind of a console replacement and the FTZ01 doesn't look thin at all compared to a PS4.
And where are you putting your console replacement that a couple cm is going to matter?

If you're going horizontal the hit to cooling from ditching the case fans might even be even higher too.

It looks like the fears of the precedent set by the Node 202 with regards to cooling, gpu and otherwise, have been bourne out:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1466816/silverstone-raven-rvz01-rvz02-ml07-ml08-ftz01-owners-club/4140

After doing some research, I kinda confirm that the RVZ02 can not deal with high-end specs(poor airflow).

So I might stick with RVZ01, oh well.

Picking up the mini ITX case chat from a few pages back, it seems that Silverstone's new Raven Z case can handle a 980ti without issue:

Not sure if Techspot is considered reliable but that review seems pretty promising.
Sounds good. Now what we're waiting for are results with their filtered non-window version. The RVZ01/FTZ01/ML07 have fans to pull air through the filters, this doesn't, so we have yet to see what difference that makes.

Just buy an inexpensive case where you can take all the panels off like the Thermaltake Core v21 and just leave all the panels off.

If you do get an open air case you get real paranoid about spilling stuff into it. Better have a shelf where you can keep it above you.

So uh basically going from 120Hz to 144Hz on a high refresh rate monitor is enough to kick NVIDIA's GPUs from their low power state into their full power state when just on the Windows Desktop, no games....

http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/Testing-GPU-Power-Draw-Increased-Refresh-Rates-using-ASUS-PG279Q

Meanwhile ATI has no problems.

Given NVIDIA's pushing of their GSYNC monitors, you would think they would have noticed and fixed this by now

It seems like it's exactly the same as the Core V1 but with some additional slats cut into the front of it for more airflow, and square power buttons instead of round?

Edit: oh, duh, the front fan sucks the air in from the slats instead of the perforated front... Wonder if that helps noise and if it is still dust-filtered.
Yep, from what I can see in reviews and pictures, the sides have removable dust filter screens now and the front has the same filter material, the down side is that it's the really permissive magnetic filter screen previously seen on the side panels of the Core V21, which is not as good as the foam filter built into the front of the V1. On the plus side, since it pulls from all 4 sides and the material filter is so permissive, it might be able to provide the fan (that maxes out at 800 rpm?) with adequate airflow.

The other downside is that the filters on the sides are only removable from the INSIDE, unlike the V21, which is a baffling decision.

Kind of a dumb question, but why has GPU memory remained relatively low compared to what you can build into a PC. Meaning I can get 64GB easy for a PC, why don’t we see 64GB GPUs?

I’m sure there’s a simple explanation that I’m missing but it’s always been one of those “I wonder” type questions.
You can get 32GB of RAM on current gen Professional cards, and I'm sure next gen will have 64GB or more.

You don't get that much RAM on gaming cards because games don't need it.
