I'm in the middle of my first FF8 playthrough for about 7 years, and I'm just at the end of disc 3. Is there a good list anywhere of stuff that I will have to get before moving ahead and locking myself out of the towns? I've done very few sidequests cos I opted to leave them all for this stage in the game.

It's because you're a heretic not because everyone has decided to join a convent

Edit: oh, and go with Monk as primary with Ninja's two swords because Throw is awful.

My last playthrough of FFT was the PSP version and its great, the translation is great. There's a certain charm to the old translation though and i would have enjoyed the option to have both somehow. I would understand complaints about the slowdown if the game was literally anything other than a turn based tactical rpg, it's not a twitch shooter or anything. I would love to see a pc version or at least a non-ipad version in future though, for all the likelihood of that happening, maybe when they release IZJS on pc... right? Right??

nope everything that happens in a game is a literal depiction of characters and their motivations there is no possibility that he is projecting his self loathing on someone else

I'm having a confusing issue in FFX HD for vita, doing the Jecht Shot mini game and the prompts aren't showing up at all for some reason. I know I can go back later and get it but it's basically required to win the blitzball cup thing right?

Yeah I'm giving it one more go and then giving up because gently caress Wakka and Tidus for basically throwing that game anyway. Also really annoying that I was about to score with Tidus when that second cutscenes started up in my last match.

Last time I played, I got the goal with Jecht Shot, and then Wakka gets in and the other team grabs the ball and immediately scores a goal without me being able to do anything about it.

Luckily Wakka managed to redeem himself during overtime, but it would've been pathetic enough that even if I lost I would've let it stand, because god drat, Wakka.

Yeah it's not the best introduction to the mini-game, but in the end I managed to win 3-2, with two goals being scored by the Goers immediately after my first two with almost no resistance. Thankfully the RNG gods smiled upon me and Wakka got a last minute goal.

Just use your two best players, guys, jeez.

Probably the weirdest thing about FFX this time around for me was that insane "Macarena" reference they just threw in there with almost no comment. I don't remember it from last time playing, it must have always been there but it took me by such surprise that my guffaw nearly shocked my wife to death.

I'm actually playing this on pstv because they're so drat cheap now and it's a great way to play!

FFX-2 is by far the better game, but I'm enjoying this playthrough of FFX HD, maybe even more than I did before. I put like 400 hours into X 10 years ago, and never beat Nemesis or Penance, but I really don't feel like I'll do that this time, but I really do enjoy the endgame.

I believe it does, yeah. I keep trying to play TO but I just can't get into it, last year I replayed FFT and thought it would be the perfect time to try and beat TO but I guess I'm not pro enough for it.
A PSTV is probably the best way to play the most amount of final fantasy, still no loving Crisis Core though :argh:

WotL is great, but it's missing some stuff like battle shouts when casting spells, the translation is way better but leans too heavily on GoT-style writing. Also some slowdown, but it's a loving SRPG who gives a flying gently caress about slowdown.

This is the way.

also the slowdown in wotl is pretty bad. like yeah it can't affect how you play the game but waiting a solid minute for a basic spell animation to go through at 2 fps suuucks.

I played through it last year on my psp and it was fine, just a couple of seconds of slowdown for even big spells.

I bought it to replay on my PSTV and it turns out that for "reasons" S-E have decided that I can't play it on PSTV because I'm in Europe. Annoyingly, all my PSX FF games are listed as not being compatible with the PSTV much like WotL. but work just fine.

Which is why it's complete bullshit that they haven't shat out a VIII re-release for me to play forever and ever

Are the faulty memories of FF7's story the fault of the fans or the fault of the game? The game does outright tell you the answers to most of its big "mysteries" but the fact so many people still overlook these answers is puzzling as hell. Of course, the translation doesn't help, but I still wonder if it's an execution problem or if most people don't remember stuff besides Midgar and the Aerith thing.

It's a combination of bad translation, multiple unreliable narrators and a tendency to write things that haven't been explicitly explained off as being "lol japan so crazy"
