I'm going to run through on hardcore ASAP, discovering new and exciting ways to die!quote:Currently we have no plan to permanently kill the PCs in the arenas for teams I'm not sure whether I like this or not. On the one hand, I'm sure hardcore pvp with permadeaths would be pretty poo poo, much like it was in D2, but on the other hand, killing pubs is pretty much the best.

Anyone keen to roll with me? I just hit level 10 with a SC char so I'm about to embark upon a quite likely short and inglorious hardcore campaign - given I almost died a couple of times just getting to level 10. trisomy21#1401 if you are!

I think (really loving hope) I've resolved my freezing issue, so I've been playing my HC witchdoctor a little more. Just passed act 1, and bought a little gear on the AH to try and buff myself up for a2. Really not looking forward to the a2 boss fight - I thought it was the hardest one when I ran through on sc. Has anyone noticed how sparse the AH is compared to sc? Almost completely bare of gems, and items with a couple of good qualities are few and far between. To be expected, but still.

FairGame posted:It's actually really nice if you want to get e-rich b/c right now you're still ahead of the curve. I've spent a little bit of time dicking around on the HC AH this morning, and it's way easy to game it. There are tons of cheap items turning up that you can almost instantly flip for twice as much. I've made about 30k just by stuffing around flipping items for half an hour.

DeeRock posted:Wow 25k people playing softcore compared to 400+ for hardcore, where's the love? if you've read any of the posts in diabloplayers.txt you'd know most diablo players are enormous babies I've got a WD in A2 now, and so far so good. I've been taking it slow and abusing the AH so I'm pretty well kitted out. One thing I've found useful is that the merchant in the hidden camp can be shopped to get +vit items. When he has a good one (15+ vit and another mod), if you buy a whole stack of them you can easily more than double your money on the AH selling them a couple at a time.

Revitalized posted:My level 40 Demon Hunter just suffered a death at... at my computer turning black and losing control for 2 seconds. And then when my screen flickered on I was dead. I have no idea if it was the game or my graphics drivers or what. I was having this happen, was my vc driver crashing. Underclocked it a little and it seems mostly fixed.

Xenomorph Zero posted:Just beat Belial in HC normal mode with a Barb buddy. 2.4k health for the Barb, 1.6k for me (wizard.) Going into HC blind is the only way. I was super worried about the belial fight, went in with 3.5K HP on my witch doctor and it was a breeze. trisomy21#1401 is my tag if anyone wants to play with me - though I'm in australia and probably can't play for long on weekdays anyway.

Waffle Zone posted:How am I supposed to manage that? I'm a level 24 wizard on act 2 about to fight belial. My hp is at about 2.5k but I'm never worried at 80%. Maybe I'm doing this wrong. It's my first time playing hardcore and first time playing wizard. 80% is not really where I'd worry, I'd say 60. When I fought belial yesterday my health never dropped below about 70% - but I was still worried when there was green poo poo everywhere. Had DH die in a game with me just now, gibbed by a soul lasher elite pack. First time I've had someone else die in a game I've been in. My WD didn't even break a sweat clearing them

tower time posted:How have people been prioritizing their gold between gear and account-wide upgrades for smithing, jeweling, and space? I've done more or less nothing to my crafters, figured it was kinda pointless when I burned through 100 essences trying to craft some shoulders or something and didn't even get a usable item. Same hundred blues would have bought me something quite usable on the AH, that I can just flip for the same cash (-15% of course) when I'm done with it.

I'm enjoying a lot of the little events/dungeons they've thrown into the game. I played through on sc first (stupid crash issues which kept me out of hc for a while), but I've been going into the little events blind. Playing them on HC makes them genuinely fun/intense. Jar of souls - Survive an ever increasing horde of skeletons until the time runs out Treasure dungeon - Beat the timer to get the treasure. Much like treasure goblins this caused me to take some stupid risks Have also seen some dumb pubs. Cruising through one of kulle's dungeons, there are fallen fanatics. After coming close to dying to them once, the barb I was with stubbornly refused to learn his lesson and charged into another pack with them. Didn't work out so well for him because there was a waller champ in the pack. Not much I could do so I just sat back and watched. ![]() I'm torn about what my favourite class is. WD is cool, I've been having fun running with my summon pack, but they're quickly starting to suck (a1 NM) so I'm not sure where to go now. Wizard seems pretty boss, tons of disable/escape spells, and consistent ranged damage. I've been using frost nova/wave of force/arcane orb all game (currently a3 norm) but I'm starting to wonder if it's time to change. DH is fun, and has some good escapes, but still seems a little more fragile, still early days though, I'm only in A2.

Wakko posted:Are you taking your characters into Act 2 before 18? 14-15 is fine, you get to beat on cultists and get a few easy levels at the start of a2. For a new character, I generally try and buy an ok dps weapon from the AH (upgrade every several levels), and one of each armour type with 10+ vit. Points in your damage stat are nice too, but the main thing is boosting your life a ton. Once you start getting past 20 it might be worth spending more time gearing up. If you need some cash, get on the AH and start flipping stuff. If you run a search for rare amour with vitality and set a max buyout/sort by ascending buyout you should be able to find plenty of stuff to flip (though you might want to bump the max level above your own to widen the search pool a bit). If the AH was working properly buying a ton of amethysts and socketing everything would be quite helpful too.

Coffee Jones posted:I had 2000 life on act 3 normal and was untouchable throughout most of the act and it disappeared in three seconds. I was in a pub game fighting asmodan last night. There was a wd with only 1500 health in the game, one homing fireball to the face and he was dead. You really need 4k+ in a3 to give yourself a bit of a buffer.

waspinator posted:Can someone explain to me the fun in hardcore when you're setting up failsafes to keep yourself alive? Almost every streamer I have seen is keeping a way to stay alive (usually keeping a computer ready to login at a seconds notice in case you get in trouble to log you off) I didn't realise it worked that way, that kinda sucks I guess it's more or less the same as people who used chicken in D2 though. Still, given how hard everyone has been trying to thoroughly break the game people finding tricks like that is inevitable.

Hieronymous Alloy posted:Thanks, that's a good thought. It may be that the economy's changing quickly enough that you're completely right. When I first ran up in Hardcore the AH just was *barren* at a lot of price/gear points, especially past about level 30. The bottom is falling out of the market for lower level stuff (up to 35 or so anyway). I took a break for a week or two and looking at the market now, weapons I bought then have lost 3/4 of their value. Another random tip: stacking vit is a really, really good idea, but topazs/emeralds are practically worthless (up to square anyway) so loading on a bit of int or dex could well be a more economical buff for your char through normal (and maybe even nightmare).
