![]() Demon Hunter Demon hunters are relentless vigilantes who execute their infernal targets with an arsenal of ranged weapons. They crouch and take aim far from danger, relying on bows, deadly traps, and projectiles to swiftly bring an end to the creatures that haunt their world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoTWRHheshw Reasons to play the Demon Hunter
Character Creation As with all classes in Diablo 3 you can create both Male and Female characters. ![]() Key Features Ranged Weaponry Demon hunters are able to pepper the battlefield with scores of arrows and projectiles, or snipe distant enemies with a precision undreamt of by other heroes. Their arsenal includes longbows, grenades, hand-thrown weapons, and even dual-wielded crossbows. Traps When hunting packs of demons or giant horrors much stronger than themselves, canny hunters come prepared. Luring enemies into mines, caltrops, or steel-jawed traps can soften them up, ensuring an easy – and guaranteed – kill. Shadow Magic In order to better their chances against the forces of the Burning Hells, demon hunters embrace apocryphal magics. They can cloak themselves in darkness, confound others’ attacks, and slip between shadows to sneak up on their prey. Battle Tactics Demon hunters carry the scars and burns of their pasts, and, despite the path they’ve chosen, they have no desire to suffer again. Hunters hold their enemies at range with hamstringing arrows, or slow them with entangling bolas, and they drop smoke bombs to escape when foes draw dangerously close. Resources - Hatred/Discipline ![]() The Demon Hunter uses a dual resource system, known as Hatred and Discipline. Hatred (the red portion of the orb) dictates the resource available for offensive attacks, and it regenerates quickly. Discipline determines resources available for the Demon Hunter's defensive maneuvers, and also some of her traps. Equipment ![]() Demon Hunters are a ranged character class and as such they utilize Bows, Crossbows, and Quivers. Certain abilities allow close-quarter combat, but these are limited. In addition, Demon Hunters gain access to a few exclusive types of equipment. Cloaks Though demon hunters can shoulder heavy mail like any other warrior with an eye towards survival, their acrobatic movements incline them towards lighter gear. Cloaks provide chest protection without trumping mobility. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/cloak/ Hand Crossbows Single hand crossbows tend to be less damaging than comparable two-handed bows and crossbows. When demon hunters wield them as a pair, they can fill the air with a continuous salvo of arrows. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/hand-crossbow/ Quivers Not merely a container for arrows and bolts, the quiver often contains mystic properties. Some quivers provide easier access to projectiles and thus quicker rates of fire; others confer on their arrows the crackle of lightning or the sharpness and impact of thrown spears. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/quiver/ What stats do I need? The Demon Hunter benefits from Dexterity, Attack Speed, +Damage, and Hatred/Discipline Regeneration. Dexterity is one of the core attributes for characters in Diablo III. It governs the chance that a character will Dodge an attack and increases Demon Hunter's and Monk's damage dealt. Each point of Dexterity gives: +.1% to Dodge chance. +1% to Demon Hunter's damage. +1% to Monk's damage. Abilities and Runes The Demon Hunter has a vast array of abilities they can use both devastatingly destructive, and tactically defensive. Here are the types of abilities you will see with the Demon Hunter. Active Abilities: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/demon-hunter/active/ Passive Abilities: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/demon-hunter/passive/ Demon Hunter Builds The best part! Builds! With the rune system in Diablo 3 there are endless possibilities for builds for each class, and with your creative minds I have no doubt we will definitely find some unique and interesting builds! Feel free to post your build with a brief summary of what it accomplishes and I will add it to the list with appropriate accredation. Grenadier by Luffles This build utilizes a large amount of grenades and bombs for ultimate execution of blowing things up while maintaining a constant stream of Hatred generation. It has increased life gain from damage while using Shadow Power so there is no fear of getting close to a crowd to throw out some grenades or spike traps, as well as it utilizies Vault with a discipline reduction combined with Tactical Advantage to get away quickly should the poo poo hit the proverbial fan. All in all this is my prefered release build I will be testing out to see just how ridiculous being a Grenadier really is in Diablo 3. Crithunter by John Colon Take advantage of the demon hunter's innately high crit chance and crit damage with abilities such as grievous wounds impale and bait the trap in order to create Really Big loving Numbers. Also offers myriad defensive options. Normal Adult Human fucked around with this message at May 15, 2012 around 21:12 |

I never ended up rolling DH in beta, but I'm really worried that the DH is going to be all about kiting mobs. Can someone calm my worries?

Uh well like the Wizard you certainly have the option to but if you'd rather just annihilate with zero finesse you can always give that a shot?? DH is built as a ranged class and doesn't get the innate 30% damage reduction the barb and monk get. It's not like you can just walk up to mobs and punch them.

CJ posted:I just hit level 10 and a passive ability says it gives me movespeed when i vault with evasive fire, what does that meant? When i dodge an attack? You'll get an ability later that's literally called Evasive Fire. If the enemy is within X yards when you shoot with Evasive Fire, you'll vault backward 15 yards automatically (if you have 4 Discipline). Different effects with different runes. That passive will also give you movespeed if you use the actual Vault ability.

Don't even think about demon hunter builds until you've tried evasive fire. It was removed early in the beta but it was probably the most fun ability in the game.

Do the split arrows from Shatter Shot (Hungering Arrow) also seek targets? Do they have a pierce chance?
|
| # ? May 15, 2012 04:30 |
|
Yes. I have no idea why you would ever get improved pierce when you can have a lower chance to create 3 arrows which together have a higher net chance of piercing again.

I am assuming that split arrows splits into 3 more guided arrows, which sounds reasonable. If they were dumbfire or had no pierce chance it would probably be stated as such.
|
| # ? May 15, 2012 05:59 |

I believe the current numbers are "if the split arrows can split again it's by far the best damage rune. If they can't but can still pierce then it's on par with the other good runes (puncturing, devouring). Not sure where cinder arrow falls, I guess it depends on how dots stack if it bounces back to the same target.

What's the benefit to dual wielding hand crossbows as opposed to using one plus a quiver? From what I've seen so far dual wielding doesn't let you attack any faster.

I grabbed Diablo 3 on a whim less than an hour before release, when I came to the realization that there wasn't anything (other than possibly T2) coming out this month I wanted, and I have yet to regret it. We'll see if that holds true. I also don't regret going with Demon Hunter as my solo class (saving WD for friends parties), because godsdamn is it fun. I do regret one thing though. ![]() The realization that a large percentage of my money is going to go towards dyes because I am a finicky motherfucker. (Also where is my Van Helsing hat.)] E: In actual DH talk, I'm not feeling much love for Smoke Screen, so I've swapped that back to my newly improved Caltrops with Hooked rune. I thought you got a slight weapon speed improvement for dual wielding. Maybe like 10% or so? I do agree, it's not worth doing to start - in the beta I kept using a bow and quiver until anywhere from level 7 to 10 or so, depending on when I scored a couple decent hand crossbows. Then I never looked back.
