It is a real, fully playable RPG (though apparently kind of a vehicle for publishing his friends' adult art too) for 2-3 consenting adults where you play immortal demons who do battle and try to dominate one another and act out weird fetishes.

So Kamiya's like the Suda51 of tabletop RPGs, then?

After rolling on random tables, here is a Meikyuu Kingdom kingdom.

The King is Cypress Seven Enemies, a Bartender. He hates meddling and waking up early, but loves bragging and monsters. When he's out in the dungeon, he can grant allies extra actions by causing Anarchy in the kingdom. (which means a roll on the Disasters chart) Between battles the King gets everyone else drunk to make them better fighters.
The kingdom itself is The Independent Socialist Academy. People are the most important part of The Independent Socialist Academy, which is why it has a Casino and a Jail and an Execution Grounds. :stare: It's all because a crazy alchemist used to make artificial people, and the citizens of The Independent Socialist Academy are terrified they might not be real. They gamble all their money away, and when they get out of line they're thrown in prison or the city's three Ogrekin execute them. The party can learn skills from artificial monsters though!

Cypress Seven Enemies is too busy drinking and boasting to do anything but fight in dungeons :smith:

Yeah, I can only do so much, and a game like Arianrhod is going to end up a lower priority than the likes of Meikyuu Kingdom. But if anyone is seriously interested in publishing Japanese RPGs, Andy and I will do what we can to help. 90 backers and $7,563 pledged of $9,000 goal already for Tenra Bansho. That's pretty impressive.

Well, there are a lot of people who've been waiting a long-rear end time for it; myself included. I played the game back at GenCon '08, but it was so long ago I don't remember anything about the system. All I remember was I was playing a samurai who had a gunblade loaded with explosive rounds.

heya, if you were looking at the furoshiki (108) or the furoshiki and chips levels, I'm going to be making some calls to Kyoto textile makers this weekend to see the prices and shipping of MOAR (aiming for the same patterns I already have, and at least the same high quality). You will see these two levels return, albeit perhaps about $10 higher due to shipping from Japan to US (the 40 I originally had, I brought with me by hand this year when I came back from work in Japan).

It might be a few days, tho.

Also, now to plan out stretch goals!

Thanks!

While I'm glad you're here talking about all this, a bit of friendly advice: don't use words like MOAR or sign your posts. That'll get you probated.

I don't know if this is insensitive or unobservant or something, but at cursory glance, Tenra Bansho sort of looks like Japan's very own RIFTS. By all means correct me if I should be taking a different comparison. Like, it is the nature of people to have preferences, but reading through about some other games mentioned in this thread, I find it hard to be excited about Tenra Bansho since it doesn't really sound like, by comparison, it offers a whole lot that is presently missing from the western pen and paper experience.

Like, I would even kind of like someone to try and explain why I should be excited. The kickstarter just didn't sell me on it as much as other people apparently were.

I would say it is in the "this is an awesome setting with tons of poo poo" sense, not the "rules designed by Kevin Sembida" sense.

Wow, there's definitely a pledge spike. Even if there's no more stretch goals or anything. It's not just a spike in money, but a spike in backers too. Maybe I didn't take enough Econ courses in school, but I figured it would have a much smoother tail end compared to other Kickstarters I've watched where there's some big news or stretch goal added or whatnot.

Got my copy of the Double Cross Advanced Player's Guide. I am vastly amused that it is possible to be a double full borg now, with Trait Loises (Trade one of your starting loises for a special quality) and Items of Power (Special renegade-related items that you buy with XP instead of stock.)

Both have a full body replacement option, that give different benefits, and would seem to stack with each other.

DOUBLE CYBORG, hero of the people.

Then take "Complete Augmentation" on top of that. TRIPLE CYBORG. :science:

Okay, Double Cross fans. I really liked how the book was described in the Fatal and Friends write-up and in the character generation thread. But I am not sure about using the default setting with my usual group.

I can kind of picture the Encroachment Rate (which I find very cool) being reskinned as % dragon or mindless undead or whatever, depending on the character, in a fantasy game. Besides redoing the table of NPCs, would this be an insane amount of work? Are the rules tied in so closely with the setting that reskinning them is far more hassle than it's worth?
The mechanics and fluff are pretty easy to separate out, so you should be able to keep most of the powers as-is. Although some Syndromes like Morpheus or Black Dog won't be as useful since they're a little more dependent on "technology".

quote:

Also, what exactly is in the Advanced Guide? Just more items, powers, and NPCs?
Pretty much. There are new "trait Loises" which are better powers you can take in place of one of your permanent Lois slots (so you have a kick-rear end unique power, but it's harder for you to keep your Encroachment down), villain-only powers, unique virus-powered items, and an expansion of the default setting with about twice as many NPCs. There's other stuff there too but that's probably the main thrust of the book.

Evil Mastermind
Apr 28, 2008

Morpheus may not need that much of a tweak, if you assume that instead of guns you're making infinite throwing knives/arrows/whatever. I'm at work so I can't thumb through the book to really check though.

I wish they'd do a PDF. :(

Or you're part golem or whatever. Alternately, on the more gruesome end, you could be part Frankenstein, powered by self-galvanization.

Both options are equally :black101:. If you wanted to be a little more mundane you could just fuse armor to your limbs.

Just skimming the Morpheus powers, the only ones that wouldn't really work for fantasy are Ace Driver and Vehicle Morph, unless you used them to turn horse-drawn carts into Spartacus-style death chariots or something.

Black Dog isn't as bad as it looks, though. There's only two powers that really directly deal with "cybernetics" in the core book: Cyber Arm and Cyber Leg. The "On Air & Tapping" and "Radio Wave Jamming" simple powers wouldn't fit either.

But really, everything else can probably be refluffed easily to fit the trad fantasy mold. You'd just need a different Job table and that's it.

Man, now I really want to play this. A fantasy world where there's no magic or weird races, then all of a sudden people with these powers start appearing. If I wasn't insanely bad at finishing any project I started, I'd try my hand at writing it.

e: You know, looking at the list of settings, I'm surprised there isn't just a traditional fantasy style setting already. I think DX would lend itself well to the kind of setting Exalted tries to be; super-powerful demigods in a world of mundanes, fighting demons and carving out empires.

It's on page 300/301. The only real limitation is that the powers involved in the combo have to have the same Timing and Skill (but if the power was - as a skill, that power can combine with everything).

How does it factor into the numbers you're supposed to fill in? Mainly dice and attack power.

At 60% and above, you get a bonus to your powers' die pools, and at 100% or higher you get bonus effective levels on your powers. It's on page 274.
