Clearly getting a mod's approval is only doing so much for pokemon test posts. They aren't too common, but they still pop up more than they should.

Just to be clear, I only gave him approval to make the test post, not the thread. Sorry if I was unclear.

I mean, we get one every ... what? Two months? Once a month?

Previous to the bottleneck (which I'll admit, right now, that's all it really is), it was more like once a week. But if you want me to add more rigor to it, sure.

I don't mind adding a "week's probation if it sucks" clause. I just honestly didn't see it as a huge problem.

Also I removed that psuedo-hobby line from the Rules thread because it's a relic of the times when this poo poo started and people wouldn't LP a game if someone else was doing it, or get legitimately mad over thread hijackings, or describe someone who made a good Let's Play as "a legend". It gets bandied around, regardless of the point behind it, so whatever.

No, I called out your last line because you implied that it's not about hard work, it's about being part of in-group mentality.

Also you're kidding yourself on the detective bit, and you know it. Your username has the word TV in it because you were trying to call attention to your YouTube channel when you made the account (why the hell else would it be there, if you didn't already have a "channel.") I didn't even need to hit Google on that one.

Ugh. I was just about to ask this, and it's less than relevant now.

But still, why "pseudo"-hobby.? I mean, hobbies aren't that serious to begin with (in theory) and LP-ing seems to fit every hobby definition.

Basically, when people were flame-warring about LPs and writing page-long posts about what this guy is and isn't doing and all that crap, I meant it to sort of ground things. Adding a qualifier to "hobby" (as if to imply it's not even a hobby) was meant to underscore the "This is not a big deal" point of it.

I do think SA serves a good purpose in its LP forum insofar as it's a more specialized version of YouTube and I don't want people who do put time and effort into a good thread to have it dismissed as a "pseudo-hobby", so I don't like that use of the phrase.

I know some of the Rules thread is stale, due to it being a modification of AxeManiac's original Rules thread (I mean, Rule #1 is kinda ridiculous and the 56k thing doesn't happen anyway... ...maybe I should repost that thread actually...)

What's with all the drama in the second Skyrim thread?

As far as I can figure, the OP started with a lackluster character creation post.

One guy complained, and got a response, but he pressed the point, other people came into defend and it started spiraling out of control.

I posted a "shut up and let's see the next update" response because it didn't appear awful enough to be gassed/reposted or anything, and it's totally possible that the OP couldn't do much with the game's character creation stuff (like they said) and is planning to kick it into higher gear next update.

It's one of those situations where it seemed like the complaint was valid, and the OP's first response seemed sane and measured, so I'm waiting to see where the thread goes for now. I might revisit some more individual posts later, but for now, I'm stuck late at my job with version control woes, and I wanted to at least stem the nonsense.

If you're doing a plot heavy game or something you don't want spoiled, using YouTube as is can lead to your readers seeing spoilers in the related videos tab.

The game's clearly weird and quirky, which means you don't have to try and be funny. Just be informative and highlight the weirdness.

Snatcher (the screenshot one) - because people really got into it, and it was awesome to show off a game I'd liked so much and have everyone experience it sorta vicariously. Sometimes people don't take an LP how you'd quite intended (I don't think I ever conveyed that Dead To Rights really is kinda fun to play, though the ridiculous story was still front and center), but Snatcher, things worked perfectly.

It certainly wasn't my best work (I was in kind of a rush to complete it by Christmas), but it was really satisfying to see a game you like get some late recognition.

Anyway, I hate to pick apart high-effort test posts, but I had a problem maybe other people won't. During the Air Cutter Remora fight, I read your paragraph on the left and started watching the fight. I was focusing on the right, where the combat was and then I realized you'd written something else. By the time I finished reading it, I missed the Remora strike.

The two-column approach is definitely unique, and you might have something there, but I have to take my eyes off the action to read, and even worse, when I'm watching the action, I'm missing when the text updates, because it's a subtle transition that's happening in the corner of my eye.

I'm thinking traditional subtitles might be the way to go, honestly. Unless you have a better callout to text updates and really good timing in terms of not writing things while there's stuff onscreen that I want to watch.
