I think SVT could probably benefit from a few different spawn locations for Snake. In the time it took me to get my bearings and start moving I'd usually end up walking into half the other team heading straight for my spawn.

Another cool idea is the terrorists wear TERRORBOOTS which make your footsteps loud as heck, so Snake can figure out where the terrorists are without having to wildly swing the camera around in third person to peek around corners!

Or maybe some kind of limited range radar or wall hug ability or something idk

Yeah I got my turn at Snake after maybe 10 rounds as a Terrorist and the whole team just made a bee line straight to the spawn and that was it.

Snake having a better 3rd person camera in SvT would do wonders, but that's likely beyond the capabilities of Source.

Either that or only using larger maps for SvT works. I've only been able to watch video up until this point, but from what I've seen on CS_Office it might just be too small and cramped. That is one of the biggest benefits of that map in terms of CS play, rounds are short because there's almost no rush distance between the spawns and the choke points.

Is there anyway to create a "night time" effect on a map at will? SvT would be amazing if there was an option to have the map take place at night, and all terrorists have to use flashlights.

Played some bacon with a few buds, and dustnight was by far the best SvT map due to the flashlight creating a circle of light around their user.

Source uses static light maps. You'd have to reload to a new map, but it's possible.

In an act of avoiding my studies I randomly started work on an as perfect as possible replica (AND NOTHING MORE!) of the map killbox, without asking whether an official dev is doing that... So is it being made or not? And which config package should I be using (HL2 2006/2007/2009) when I make a map? What sort of ents can I look forward to? I hope the katamari balls will be making a comeback...

We don't have anyone working on a killbox map so go for it (I think you should be using 2007? I'll check). We're going to add an ent like the katamari balls from the original map eventually, and also spawn points are jb_spawn_all

Right on, I'm almost done with it, just need to throw in working lifts and litter the map with guns and those barrels. Thinking maybe a 1-1 copy isn't a good idea, it's outdated as all hell, but I'm just gonna finish this first.

e: I take it there's CS:S style ladders rather than HL2 ladders (i.e., func_ladder rather than func_useableladder)? The latter are horrible and rear end and really ruin the ladder climbing experience imo.

The way people are allowed into the beta is by a whitelist, which is hardcoded into the game files, so we'll have to wait until a next release, that's all.

Not quite...

There's no FGD as of yet, there's only a few entities needed though.

jb_spawn_all - Generic spawns for deathmatch games.
jb_spawn_svt_terrorist - SVT Terrorist spawns
jb_spawn_svt_snake - SVT Snake spawn
jb_obj_frog - SVT Kerotan

The only reason the text files exist are to add/remove/modify entities in existing maps without doing dumb things like recompiling etc.

You guys still taking weapon suggestions? Back when the first Jaykin' Bacon was new I suggested a chaingun which shot non-lethal explosions which could move people and I think that actually made it into the game. I don't know if they'd be feasible but the two alien weapons from I Come In Peace (54 minute mark) would be ace.
