![]() Prinnies are penguin creatures from Disgaea, a series of japanese tactical rpgs. They are the souls of criminals sent in the Netherworld and reincarnated into demon penguins to be slaves and atone for their crimes. Prinnies are basically the weakest monsters in their world because of their crippling weakness : they explode when they're hit by anything. Kind of like nitroglycerine. Prinny, Can I really be the Hero? is a spinoff of Disgaea. It is an old school platformer that is very hard. The game is divided in 10 stages. The 6 first stages can be played in any order. The order you play them in actually changes the layout of the levels and you get different little scenes and sometimes different bosses at the end. Which difficulty are you playing? There are two difficulty settings, Standard and Hell's finest. The only difference between the two is that in standard, you die after getting hit 4 times. In Hell's Finest, you die in one hit. So in which order are you going to play these levels? Whatever order the thread decides. That's right, you get to vote which level I play. Keep in mind that for every level completed, all the other levels get harder, so choose wisely. Or don't if you want to see me suffer a lot. I've wanted to try this game since it came out but I sold my PSP pretty early in its life 'cause the games out then weren't all that great. I say we start with the Magma Hideout. Now to go finish Disgaea. Or rather restart Disgaea since it's been a year or so since I last played.

That prinny looks awfully dashing in that red scarf. Just between you and me, I think he really can be the hero. Anywho, let's get things going at Magma Hideout. With any luck, we can save the Nethergrasslands for last and see what kind of a horror it can turn into at max star rating.

I've been recommended Disgaea several times, but I lack the PSP to play it on. Anyway, edit: I agree with Kreittis, Death's Watchtower first. UseBees fucked around with this message at May 21, 2012 around 18:52 |

Never played this game, but I did play Disgaea 3 and I liked the Prinnies in that game, so this should be good. Also Death's Watchtower, dood.

Come one guys, the Magma Hideout is already the hardest. We should do the Magma Hideout last (so that it's even harder) and Death's Watchtower first.

I made the mistake of picking Magma Hideout last. Please don't suffer (as bad) as I did and pick Magma Hideout first.

By the way one of the descriptions is LYING HORRIBLY about something quite important. Death's Watchtower is probably a good place to start, at least give him one or two level that know what mercy and justice are in vague terms before it gets later in the day and everything hates him forever. Plus we'll be starting with the classiest of bosses. Feinne fucked around with this message at May 21, 2012 around 20:30 |

Just to be clear : this isn't a blind run. I've played every version of every stage before starting this LP. So don't feel bad about making me do the really hard ones. Also, it occured to me that simply voting for the stage will become uninteresting. So how about this : At the end of every stage, you get an ingredient for the Ultra dessert and depending on the hour, the ingredient changes. How about I show you which ingredient comes at the end of every stage before voting? Ragny fucked around with this message at May 21, 2012 around 21:20 |

I'd say the game is more like the Ghosts 'n Goblins games than Super Meat Boy. High difficulty, dedicated jumping mechanics that you can't really adjust in the air, the only thing it's missing is multiple weapons with some of them being a hiderance than useful. Prinny rules in that, at its core, it is a Ghosts 'n Goblins tribute. And as a fan of both the GnG series and the Disgaea series, Prinny was an obvious purchase for me. I still haven't gotten around to Prinny 2, however.

Ugh, this game. I could never beat the final boss on Hell's Finest, gently caress that guy. Anyway, I can't see running into any problems if we do this in order , so Nethergrasslands.

Ahh Prinny...I have so many fond memories of swearing constantly at the goddamned useless Prinnies and their tendency to explode after just one hit. Why yes, I did complete the game on Hell's Finest, why do you ask? It only took me 273 lives! For the final boss! Yet despite this, I STILL can't beat one of the bonus bosses on standard. By any chance are you going to play the DLC levels?

Magma Hideout. Also, I hope this LP will be great enough that I finally shell out for a Penguin avatar that isn't really a penguin.

I'm not making that up. Also I hate this loving game, I got to the final boss on my first playthrough and by the time I stopped my arm physically hurt, and for the whole of the next day I couldn't do much with it because god dammit stop aching. So of course I got Prinny 2 as soon as possible, which, is okay I guess? I just can't muster the energy to play past the first stage.

going with death's watchtower magma hideout last so it's ridiculously hard. i played this game, but i cheated my rear end off. i didn't even know about the orb's aside from the ones forced on you, and I didn't collect one doll the entire time, also the game froze on final boss. This game was alot of fun even if I could never win on Hells finest. I also remeber nearly breaking both my PSP and my thumb on that last boss. I sometimes wonder if Sony didnt pay the developers to make a game that would bash up the old PSP's so that you would have to go get a new model one (which came out at around the same time as this game if I remeber correctly). I think I ended up using that old arcade pencil trick. So best of luck to you on that score. Also I always started at the top and worked my way down so I'd like to see you do the revese of that with the Moab fortress first.

Dr Pepper posted:Just take comfort in the fact that they are literally damned souls and this is their punishment. On a good day they merely have the worst job in existence. This is not a good day for them. Prinnies saying "dood" all the time is in fact in the rules they get during Prinny training, and if I had to guess it's because they're trying to discourage individuality. Strictly speaking, if you look closely at the Prinnies they're really just a crude penguin suit.

People who thought Little Horn in Super Meat Boy was hard because of remembering patterns have NOT fought the last boss in this game. 3 minute limit, no hits, longer pattern, and thumb fatigue!

See, Netherworld Prinnies are expected to pay for their sins, literally.

Are you going to play Prinny 2 at all dood? It's so much better in every way possible, including the challenge of some of the hidden bosses. Also, get all the tickets, some are pretty tricky but the payoff is awesome! Moab Fortress first imo

ThisIsACoolGuy posted:It's a rule. They have guidelines and Prinny Rule # 1 is to include the word "dood" in every line they say. If somebody actually cares, in the Japanese version of the Disgaea series, Prinnies are supposed to end their sentences with the suffix "-ssu" which apparently is some kind of colloquial variant of "desu". NISA decided to translate that as "dood" for English.
