Just bought the game, rolling as a strider at the moment. You guys weren't kidding about the screen tearing, drat. Also some parts of the game just look messed up, in particular everybody's eyes when showing any sort of emotion and the dragon itself. Still, it's pretty fun so far. The worst thing about it was the buttrock that played the first time I turned the game on. The pawn needs to learn when to shut up too. I'm trying to loot a house, don't announce it to everyone!

There's no way to dodge or block as a Strider right? Just run and jump and get out of the way? I can't find a roll button so I'm guessing not.

Is your pawn automatically sent out to the pool for everyone to see or do you do something specific later in the game?

Picked this up today, and I'm not sure what to go with for body type. The vocations that interest me most are the strider/ranger and Warrior (for the bigass swords). My initial character build was made more for range, the S size. Will that hinder me too much as a warrior?

Wait, this matters besides look? I went with a average/slightly buff build for strider, a little taller as well.

I remember someone way earlier in the thread saying you can craft using stored materials without going to get them or something. Is that true or should you keep certain things on your character?

Frankly I'm curious if there are any indespensible combinations. I haven't done many because I tend to save my stuff for enhancing gear.

Oh, I get it now, thanks. That makes more sense.

Am I basically ruining the game if I take pawns that are 30-40 levels higher than me, or does it not really matter? Because a few of my friends have 48-55 level pawns and I'd like to use them but not if it breaks the game at lower levels.

I've decided that since I appear to do jack poo poo in terms of damage so far as a strider (unless I'm stabbing a cyclops in the eye, holy poo poo), I'm cool with summoning my friend's level 48 pawn for free. I thought it'd be annoying but I actually really like the pawn system.

If you turn the game off with other player's pawns in your party, will they automatically update based on the other player's progress (if they made any), or do I have to release them and rehire them for me to see any changes? For example, if I hired someone at level 5 yesterday and that player got the pawn to 10, when I turn the game on tonight will the pawn in my party be 10, or do I need to "refresh" it by releasing the pawn?

At some point you should switch to Warrior and pick up their augment that "greatly reduces" physical damage. It's at level 1 so you can totally switch to Warrior, learn it, and then immediately switch back. Really everyone should do this ASAP.

Where do I switch vocations? I might as well, I get knocked around enough as a strider.

And the "knowledge chairs" are the glowing chairs in the inn right? I only looked when I had the default pawn the game starts you with.

What am I not getting about Catching a Thief? The thief runs just as fast as you, but turns faster so you can never catch up, is immune to damage, and flips out if you even try to get close. It's not possible to grab him either, you slip off.

e: Also it's a huge dick move having "load last checkpoint" not be "load last save". Yeah, I didn't need that last hour of play.

The thief is immune to damage but he can be knocked down. Here's how you can do it simply: immediately run out of the inn and head down the street. You'll soon see an alleyway to your right which turns right to the alehouse and left to the stairway for the church's rear entrance. The thief will always run down this stairway at the beginning of the mission, so if you run there as soon as possible you can get there about 10-30 seconds before he does. Eventually, you'll see his figure run down the stairs. What you do is when he gets close, you use a skill that knocks him on his rear end. Something like Full Moon Slash or hell, even a really good regular attack chain.

When he hits the ground, grab him and the mission's done. The alleyway is so narrow that he's bound to run straight into your attacks.

I kind of feel like an idiot for not just dumping my sleeper arrows into him, but thanks for the tip on where to wait.

Also the map could stand to be better. I went to the Watergod's Altar with Ser Berne thinking that was the way to the Shadow Fort or whatever. Sadly he got eaten by a dinosaur man. On the plus side, I got more money out of it than I would have otherwise by stumbling onto the place. :v:

I don't suppose Ranger keeps the strider benefit of climbing better? Crawling on top of a cyclops and using Scarlet Kisses to tear its eye out is badass as all hell.

I like this pawn system.

My warrior pawn's still dressed in a brown tunic with a lovely little piece of armor that covers his six-pack and a pair of greaves and that's about it. Remarkably effective until I accidentally tell the beast pulling my sweet hydra head trophy to run him over. v:v:v

I always get a little antsy about this sort of system though because I rarely ever seem to get my stuff noticed. I always have plenty to draw on, though! At least I figured out that the cost of recruitment is related to your level, so I don't have to worry at all about it.

The map's poo poo and all but it really, really doesn't help that the quest markers point you in the wrong direction in caves and dungeons. Instead of pointing to the correct exit, they point to the nearest one, so I ran smack into an ogre which managed to kill me after it died. I love watching other people's pawns progress. Up until yesterday I used the same mage and warrior for 20 levels. The mage, though still a mage, has surpassed me, and has clearly better equipment.
