If anyone wants a free lovely level 17 mage, add me on XBL, my gamertag is Giggilyom.

Also this game owns pretty hard. Just fought my first ogre, it kicked my rear end until it decided to grab the female pawn in my party and jump off a cliff with it. :stare:

I haven't had an ogre kill me yet, but they definitely are the hardest enemy I've fought so far, besides maybe the random 10 billion HP doom bandits.

Also I found a pretty rad pair of daggers for magic archers, with like 300+ magic power and they're constantly on fire. Good thing I'm going assassin or else I might really use them.

Hell yes, finally I can run around with all of the augments I want for my assassin from fighter and strider, and I have a bunch of second level skills for sword and bow. Also my sword is permanently on fire.

I should actually start doing the main quest now I guess. But before that, does anyone know where golems spawn? I need to kill a few more of them so I can get a third level flaming sword thinger.

Also upgrading is interesting, because if you have everything you need for the third level upgrade you can just skip the first two.

They are there to let you know that you're supposed to do notice board quests are Cassardis until you're a bad enough dude(tte) to kill the bandit leader. Unfortunately I didn't even know that notice board quests existed until I was in Gran Soren 15 levels later.

EDIT:

I killed four Cyclopses, a Golem, and packs of bandits with ease and then got my poo poo pushed in by a bandit leader when he decided to one shot me. They're really, really dumb enemies. I'm level 28.

Breaking out of holds is nearly impossible in this game. I think I've done it once, and that's with years of Mario Party under my belt.

My buff/healing mage is running Utilitarian and Mendicant, and spends most of his time in fights buffing/effect clearing/booning, and then from time to time one shots chimeras when he gets around to attacking. It's nice because I rarely ever have to use healing items because I'm always getting healed/buffed by him.

Nexus is fantastic on fighter, though, but most of them run Guardian which is unfortunate. Same with Mitigator.

and was hoping you (or someone) could expand on what it does wrong. This game looked like a hybrid of Skyrim and Dark Souls and I enjoyed both parts of the demo I played a month, or whenever, ago. I loved the hell out of Dark Souls and everything I saw and played with this game looked great, what does it do wrong? I could read a review or two, but I think people here have a better sense of things than reviewers.

It's more like Fable and Dark Souls, and only really Dark Souls because you can get your poo poo wrecked if you do things wrong. The plot is pretty nonsensical, and quests are completely unforgiving because you have one save slot and can't load. You can skip tons of content without knowing it because you go to the wrong place, and have a bunch of quests cancel on you. Some of the classes are more fun than others.

The world is really linear and not nearly as large as the game wants you to think it is. A lot of the length comes from the fact you can't fast travel, so when you're walking everywhere it really does feel large, but it's not. The environments are all also pretty samey. There isn't a lot of content despite being a longer game. Somehow. And apparently NG+ isn't really hard at all, either, so some people are disappointed by it.

There are also some technical issues like lag, screen tearing, and insane character pop in at times.

At the same time I haven't stopped playing this game since I got it and it's rapidly becoming one of my all time favorites.

Do the effects of NG+ stack, so you can get ridiculously hard enemies at some point? That would be kind of neat. Hell, I would buy difficulty DLC from Capcom. That's how much of a baby I am.

Mr. Crow posted:

So this game looks amazing, curious what the general "negatives" are for it (e.g. why it's not gotten amazing reviews like Dark Souls vs. just good reviews)? Likely grabbing it regardless but I'd like to get a feel for what the general consensus is on the games faults, and if I care.

A lot of the reason people don't like this game I guess is because they were expecting an amazing, well woven storyline in a video game for some reason, and while the poo poo Bethesda churns out gets a pass I guess Capcom isn't so lucky. It's also sort of hard and very old school, with an actual fast travel system and not the "choose a location on the map to instantly appear at" thing that people like for whatever reason. Not being able to skip like 50% of the game's content is a bad thing apparently.

The world is pretty unfortunately samey, though. There's a grand total of two actually different looking biomes. And even then that's more of a palette swap.

NG+ is also too easy.
