I'm super on the fence about this game, on one hand I love the style and classes and whatnot, but on the other every video I see has random slow motion with pawns and focused only on climbing all over poo poo, is that pretty much how every fight goes or how exactly does the flow of battle change?

So just started the game, friend ended up buying it for me and having a okay time, just killed a head on that hydra at the start and chose to be a Mage, are there any tips or things I should be aware of as I play?

So, I'm level 15 or so, and in the middle of a bandit camp trying to do this quest as now I'm terrified all of my quests are hosed, thing is these bandits are hard as hell, how am I supposed to do this? The leader keeps telling me to fight him, aaaand everyones at half health.

Also got dicked out of the witch woods lost and found quest, "come back when you're stronger", went and got to the capital and told I failed it. Great

When there are bandits like that early on-- run. It's really effective, provided you don't need to kill them to pass your objective. Headed to witchwood? Run like hell. They'll never catch you; if you're quick enough, and lucky, you won't even lose a pawn. Don't worry; it gets easier. Sadly. Circumventing the bandit menace was pretty entertaining.

For some reason thought they had the "hunt for blood" AI that would never stop chasing me so was always detered, I murdered every bandit group no matter what leading up to the chief though, that sure was fun.

God dammit

Did I just get royally hosed over?

Decided to do sidequests after the whole ordeal with the worms in the everfall, noticed Mercedes or whatever wanted a escort and figured why not, accepted and realized I had no idea how to get there, come night time I'm back near the starting village and there she is wandering around fighting goblins a mile away from the circle, she doesn't say anything or... anything really. She then starts to follow me and I get jumped by bandits, she dives off a cliff and is now dead, and the quest failed.

I'm seriously getting mad that the game just seemed to dick me over for no reason at all

Edit: As soon as I hit submit and resumed playing I did it again, goddammit.

So question regarding Salvation
Balsac was a joke boss right, he gave off his "I'm a boss" speech then proceeded to eat dirt for the entire fight, he was laying on the ground the entire time, on fire, and I felt kind of like a schoolyard bully really

Just got in to talk with the duke if that helps

I like my pawns and don't want any of em' to die :(

You know those goblins you fight just outside Cassardis with Rook? Those guys.

Your pawns can permanently die if you don't resurrect them quickly enough. You can always hire the same support pawns from a riftstone again, and using a riftstone will bring your pawn right back.

If you mean enemies that make them unrevivable (they don't show up on the minimap as coloured skulls) then I think it's just the petrifying breath of the Cockatrice. Even if they're petrified and shattered you can still always rehire them, and like I said before your main pawn will never permanently die.

Yeah, if I see a skull pop up I drop everything for better or worse and book it on over, and I keep hearing "Man that hydra ate all my pawns and boy am I hosed!"

Great, spent 15k riftbux to hire a warrior, went to fight the griffon boss and she jumped in the water and killed herself.

There goes all those riftbux.

Wondering, I have my Pawn as the typical mage or whatever, is there any point to that or should I just skip that and slap her as a sorcerer.

I'm playing as Dirk the Daring (magic knight) and Daphnee needs some good support magic.

My warrior pawn has somehow picked up medicant and nexus. Is this bad? If so, are there better and more predictable ways to get them to change beyond the "knowledge chair"? I don't get to pick what to ask and there isn't really an indication of what sort of behavior it will cause when I choose an answer. I think I've been asked something like "I try to be quiet, but I also talk whenever I notice something. Should I continue this behavior?"
".....Yes?"

"Pawn will now talk 2x more often".

poo poo.

I was literally asked "Should I be silent more?" and soon as I said yes "You're pawn will now talk more."

I stopped the Duke from choking out his wife and just finished the quest to prove that dudes innocence, nothings really marked and kinda just wandering around picking fights with cyclopse

Also kinda nervous about the castle, while milling about killing stuff found a group of soldiers huddled around a dead chicken griffon thing, it wasn't a quest but when I examined it "It looks like it could spring to life at any moment!" and the dudes were apparently dragging it back to the Grand Soren.

That big dumb chicken griffon thing is still being brought to the capital despite the fact I've done a few quests. Every time I go out exploring and walk by the soldiers and the body I always get nervous cause drat game, that thing is big.

What the gently caress. Thanks game you big fat rear end in a top hat

Just got back from the encampment far away, beat the two wraiths or whatever and dropped by the castle. Oh there's a quest, Duchess in Distress? Cool.

Literally marked failed before I can even move. Is there some secret I'm not getting because this is stupid as gently caress and infuriating that it's telling me I failed even though I quite literally haven't taken a single step.

If I remember correctly, the window to do that quest is after you start that last quest you did, but before you finish it. Yeah, it's pretty hosed up.

That's frustrating. Also judging that my next quest is titled "The Final Battle" I'm pretty sure I wanna do all I can, are there any story quests that I CAN do?

I just did Bad Buiseness and not sure where else to look.

The "story" quests are linear, and not hard to miss. There are loads of side quests that sometimes require tedious back-tracking (unless you're swimming in portcrystals and ferry stones) to acquire, but after two play-throughs haven't affected the plot significantly as far as I can tell.

Regarding failed quests, there are vague checkpoints at which many side quests will instantly fail without warning, which can seem unfair but hey, there's always NG+

Well meant just quests that are open to me now before I go onto the final battle

I just hit level 38 or 39 and from what I hear the post game is going to apparently make me regret everything so just wanting to squeeze exp before it comes up.

Also I see people level 49-50 before fighting the Cockatrice where the hell are people leveling up.
