Do my eyes decieve me or is a mage flaming on and jumping onto a chimera to punch him to death? I only just saw this now in the OP, but this makes me completely reconsider my starting class.

The class is the magick archer but yeah that's the premise of the skill. The upgraded version drains your health slower so you can stay lit longer.

Welp, so much for going only magic knight. Now I know I'm going to screw up my stats from trying every single class in the game on my character. Going to be worth it though to try all the fun styles of combat in this game. Really makes me wish there you could have some cross class skills in the game. I know about the nice cross class perks you can get, but man do I want to the ability to flame on no matter which class I'm on.

About the weight chart in the OP. I assume they're the same units as the demo? Because it seems like most females are going to end up as S or SS unless you hulk/giant/fat them up. The extra stamina and stamina use reduction is going to be great on my char, but I hope being an S doesn't block her from carrying a big greatsword down the line.

Might be worth adding to the OP, here's a gamefaqs post that's serving as a makeshift guide right now while actual guides are being made. Has some really good info and links to other post about stuff like augments, class skills, pawn character, etc. Worth a look for anyone like me who likes to plan things out in an RPG, or if you're just curious what augments/classes the different vocations get.

Thanks for this, good to know what classes have the best stats and what the actual skills are per class. Thinking I'm going to start with strider now, since the stat gains for the first 10 lvls are incredibly balanced. Afterwards I'll probably bounce between mystic knight, magick archer, and sorcerer as I decide which class I like the best.

I also bought some of the dlc before the game's even arrived at my doorstep. I'm TOO excited for this game. I just hope it actually comes today and that I didn't miss the delivery when I went out earlier. :ohdear:

So, I just got my main pawn. Are they automatically set to being summonable as soon as I get it? I ask because another friend of mine got his pawn and I can't seem to find it by searching through friend's list.

I added my info to the goon doc, but here it is incase someone wants a shiny new mage pawn.

I've been raising up a teensy healbot/buffbot mage pawn who is working out nicely for me thus far. Stuck her in the DLC armor and now she looks like a D&D war cleric, which can only help, I think. My PSN's Valatar and her name's Cyllix if anyone needs a buffer-healer for their party.

This is basically what I did with my main pawn, it seems to get lots of crystals so far because of it. I imagine the mage in decent looking armor tends to attract people when they're pawn hunting. My average rating was 5 stars in all stats for a bit there, now it's down to 4. :(

Started my char with strider at first, which was fun, then onto magick archer. I found magick archer to be kind of underpowered though. It's range is insane and the ability to lock onto targets with most skills is nice, but you still feel like you're not dealing a whole lot of damage. Switched to fighter and suddenly the game is a blast again. My small sword and board girl knows how to bring the pain with all the stam I have from all the strider levels, lets me pretty much blink strike repeatedly for hillarious damage and range.

Question though. Does anyone know what exactly the 'fitness' augment applies to? Does it apply to actually grappling onto monsters too? I'm somewhat confused by it's description.

Guess that makes sense, and what I figured. Is the only augment that decreases stamina use while holding onto a monster the 'arm-strength' one from Strider then? I may have to switch back to it and get that one then. Gotta grab onto enemies 24/7 and stab them to death.

Little lost as to where my next main story quest is. I just finished escorting the girl through the forest to see the witch, but instead found her already dead

Where should I be going for my next quest?

Still no idea where to go after escorting the one girl through witchwood, but still having a blast. My mage pawn seems pretty well liked so far, 13k RCs overnight and still averaging 4 stars in all stats. She's all about support, and has every major upgraded spell. She's only lvl 21, but the upgraded fire boon, healing spell, and blind are incredibly useful. Blind will often make bandit fights a breeze. She's also crazy good at keeping people alive in hard fights. Gave her the DLC armor too, so she's pretty hardy. If anyone wants a free support mage, add me on PSN. (Think I added a ton of goons from the doc, but I like to ask anyway)

VDay posted:

Man, waking up, turning the game on, and resting at an inn to see that a bunch of people have rented your pawn and given you 12k RC for it is weirdly satisfying.

3 stars for appearance though :( It's all because I don't have a wizard hat yet for him so he just looks like a short little fat black kid running around. Anyway add me ("VDay 1") if you want a level ~24 pure damage mage. Will make him a sorcerer as soon as I get enough DP for the last two mage augments.

If you already have the vocation lvl, you could just switch back to mage later once you get the DPs.

Edit: Beaten

I am still stuck on this stupid cipher quest, can anyone give me a hint as to what the heck I'm supposed to do next? I talked to the guy at the black cat, who said he can't actually do anything. So now the game tells me to find someone 'privy' to information about such things, and talking to my pawns about the quest only says to find some courier in the fountain area. Yet, I have yet to see this mystical courier, nor is there any sort of quest marking. Love the game, but sometimes these quests drive me nuts.

Also, how screwed am I that I got gyped out of a bunch of escort quests becuase I outlvled them before doing them? I seem to have missed a bunch of them from Gransys, and I just flat out failed one from the starter town because the stupid village chief decided to run into a chimera's fireball on the way over.

Eventually a new marker appeared on my map, you go talk to a dude in the fields by the pawn guild. That should move the quest forward.

Actually I had done this stage earlier, I meant after talking to the scribe who runs the black cat.

Figured it out eventually though! Apparently the courier will show up at the shop after speaking to the scribe, I just suppose the first time didn't trigger his arrival for some reason.

For those who have gone to see the duke in person. Does it cancel ALL unfinished quests at the time? Or just the ones handed out by the knight at the door? I'm guessing not, but I'd like to be sure as I've had some quests skipped by accident already.

Nope, they are all huge as gently caress. Have fun clipping through the back of it regardless of your character size!

It only cancels the unfinished wyrmhunter quest things. I myself let the cipher quest die cause I couldn't figure it out.

Thanks! Good to know.

I actually hate how big the tower shields are in general, but I think my char must be the one exception where it's not clipping through her back. She's not excessively small or anything either. It still looks silly on her though.

How's everyone else liking mystic knight though? I'm trying to like sky dance, but it's useless on ground targets from just about everytime I've used it. So really can't have it as a replacement for blink/burst strike. The other magic based sword skills are flat out useless, and hardly put out any real damage. I like the idea of the shield skills, but I don't know if I pop out perfect guards enough for them to be worthwhile.

Related question, what exactly does holy wall really do? I love it's visual effect, but how does it really enhance your guard?

This game is nothing short of totally amazing. I fought a Cyclops not too far from Gran Soren at night and it was an amazing 10 minute battle in the dark, with the whole thing ending as a pack of Direwolves showed up!

I swear, this just happened to me like an hour ago. Though my favorite giant monster fight has easily been my first and only golem fight. It happened at dusk, and I had run into it completely by accident. I panicked at first, but the method of dealing with them was pretty obvious. It's just the whole fight was amazing as night fell and we fought the glow of the golem's runes. And then...when I had broken it's glowing amulet and caused it to shut down, everything went completely dark as only the faint light of it's head showed it trying to recharge. Having to climb him in pitch black and reach for the only light source on my screen was the oddest and most unique moment I've had in the game.

I have put some time into every class now except sorcerer and Knight is my favourite class. Sky dance is something you need to feel out and get the hang of, its not as straightforward as the blink strike(I have taken blink strike off my bar in favour of sky dance). Once you get the hang of it it is really fun and versatile.

Also the magic skills for sword are quite good, I assume you dont have Vortex+ yet or you wouldn't be saying that.

Holy wall eats up proectiles to the range of its force field is my full best guess. I have seen it eat up fireballs without me actually blocking it but the wording is so vague I don't know if that is all that it does or not.

*ed*

Other great thing about the Knight is the fact you can use staves. It really gives you full coverage against all enemies in the game. I didn't think I would use it much at first but after I learned comestion it is a gamechanger. You get options against air based foes like harpies and the like, while having comestion devastate giant creatures.

Does Vortex+ work on bigger enemies then? Cause I tried to get the starter version working and it couldn't take in humans, and the range was pretty bad. I'm up for giving it another try if others say some of the upgraded versions are good then. Magick cannon seemed to lack any real oomph though, unless the upgraded version starts pelting out like 3 times the damage it didn't seem super useful at the time.

I assume you're just taking a staff with you as backup? I probably should have considered that, since it'd be easy to switch to for when I need a change.
