Old log is kinda long in the tooth at this point. OP is waaaaaaay incorrect and over a year old. Kinda worthless almost. Got Shine's approval for a new log, without toxx goals. STATS: 24 years young Male 155lbs or so 5' 7.5 (measured to the half inch so noone thinks I'm short) 195 max HR History: Started off fat as poo poo. 235lbs at 5' 7. Kinda got my poo poo together, lifted, and lost a lot of weight. Still could never quite get the diet on lock / activity high enough to get where I wanted to be. It was weird and elusive. Lately: I started a new job in December. Something kinda clicked and I really got my poo poo together. It is basically awesome and I'm in the best shape of my life right now, and getting closer to where I want to be physically really really quickly. (funny how being immensely active with a really good diet will do that) Here is since March when I bought a scale: ![]() Here is my LONG term progress shot: 235lbs, August 2009 vs 157lbs, May 2012 ![]() Basically, life is pretty much exactly what I want right now. I've got a social, physical hobby, have reincorporated lifting into my plan, and have - for the first time in my life - been running successfully. THE PLAN: Do lots of poo poo. Revolve around: - Climbing 3-4x/week - Lifting 2-3x/week - Running periodically - Biking 4.5mi to work frequently with a smattering of longer rides. On top of that, I dont have concrete goals. Its nice. I dont want specific hard concrete goals. I want to do as much poo poo as my body can handle, listen to what my body tells me, and become a better person in the process. On the diet front, I've been following the "eat a lot of protein, avoid sugar, minimize refined carbs" and its been working REALLY WELL. I follow an IF schedule (dont eat before noon) and take fish oil until I scare away ladies with my burps. Eggs, greek yogurt, salad, and chicken are my diet staples. I also take a lot of uppers in the form of ephedrine and caffeine. Dont judge me. Some upcoming events: Tough Mudder Mid-Atlantic (September 9) Trip to Joshua Tree National Park (September 26 - October 3) Probably toss in a 5k somewhere just because I've never DONE one. That said, I do have a couple rules for myself: gently caress bitching. No excuses. Get poo poo done. I really hate when people bitch every third post in their logs FINALLY: Since I am doing this log without a Ban the gently caress out of me if I ever whine or bitch about exercising

Were you always a morning person or did you just force yourself to get up early and do poo poo and it eventually clicked? Did an early morning run this weekend (early being 7:30 for me) and it was kind of awesome, but I'm not a morning person at. all.

I had to get up early as hell for a LONG commute that I used to have, so I adjusted to it out of necessity. These days I just force myself because a) I get up early to go on a LOT of weekend trips anyways b) I like to fit more poo poo into my day c) there's never people trying to hang out with me at 6am so I can get poo poo done without turning people down. There's also the added benefit of knowing that youre doing something you dont really WANT to do solely for the benefits to your health / well-being. Doing that consistently does a lot for my self-motivation and self-esteem. It's a weird psychological thing.

You arent obligated to take the class, and it's mostly common sense stuff. I can teach you about everything you need to know for gym leading in a couple hours, if not less. Then you just need to test on a 5.9 and youre good. You're also welcome to join anytime we hit sport outside, ride is easy to handle at this point. No certification required, and you can start with cleaning before diving into leading.

Outside, if you want to hit sport with people who dont own gear, you need a dynamic rope, quickdraws, and a few extra carabiners and slings. But inside you dont need poo poo else. And for outside, I've got a full set of quickdraws, my roommate has a full set, I've got two dynamic ropes, and around a thousand carabiners and slings. So you'd need just about nothing special.

Last night got a little messed up because gently caress driving in DC. drat. Car is handy, but my nice car is gonna get soooo hosed up here. Basically stood benwards up because someone hit me in front of a cop while driving. Managed to climb a bit with him, but still feel like a dick at the moment. Car is fine for now, but I suspect this is the beginning of a long trend. Climbed a couple hours. I am pretty much 90% consistent on 5.10s now. Finished one 5.10 that had been giving me poo poo, though. Hooray. Finished another 5.11 (clean and all that jazz) that'd been giving me issues. I feel like I'm starting to progress past "inconsistent 5.10 climber with the occasional soft 5.11" to "consistent 5.10 climber with moderate success projecting 5.11 routes" 155.9 this morning. Diet still on lock. (Admittedly I shared a bottle of wine with my roommate and ladyfriend after climbing, so my diet isnt 100%) Trying to maintain and recomp right now. Will be aiming to keep bodyweight at 155 +/- 3lbs for a while. Walked fucked around with this message at Jun 1, 2012 around 12:40 |

Three day outlook: Tonight: running or lifting depending when I roll from the office, the weather, and my mood. Would prefer to run, but probably should lift. Will probably lift. Tomorrow: Sport climbing, Front Royal VA. Got a group of 5 coming out, two of us lead sport regularly, and one occasionally. We'll have a toprope and I'll be teaching some sport too. Sunday: Weather pending. If weather is good my roommate wants to head out to the same spot to learn some sport; so that'll be the deal if weather is good. If weather goes bad, either climbing inside or may try to trick vomaxx into showing me this strongman gym out this way. edit: the place we're heading has a 5.10a and a 5.10b that I'm really trying to get a perfectly clean lead on. I think my back/shoulder strength has come a long way, so I may be able to swing it. It's been a few weeks since I've climbed outside though, so we'll see how it shakes out in reality. There's also a few 5.8s and 5.7s that are pretty cool, although both the 5.7s have a section of runout in the middle; I really need to remember my cams this weekend. There's also a loving crazy 5.11 there that I'll probably try to hit on toprope; I may give it a run on lead if I'm feeling well enough. It's well protected but hard as poo poo. Last few days a bit crazy due to baby-sitting roommate who just broke up with his girlfriend and started drinking waaaaay too much. Did manage to get out Saturday, went out with benwards/vomaxx to Front Royal. Did mainly a few 5.7 and 5.8 routes, pretty tame day mostly teaching sport leading/cleaning. Also lost my good shoes; hoping I simply accidently left them at the gym. Ugh.

They'll teach you the (surprise) basic skills you need to play. After that, just boulder or climb.
