So about a month ago I picked up a Blood Bowl set from SA Mart. It had a ton of poo poo but it came with a human and undead team. I spent some bucks and got an orc team with star players. I've played three starter (no extra rules yet) games with my Dad and we're trying to get a hang of it.

1) Can anyone tell me if you can campaign with 2 players. It just seems like me and my dad will be playing each other and leveling up our teams. Does that work? I'd love to get more people but most of my friends aren't into that type of game.

2) What the gently caress does prone mean? When does my guy go face down and when does he just get stunnde and go face up (prone?). I just can't figure that out.

3) Any other confusing rules I should be aware of? I've read through LRB 5/6 about 3 times to try and figure it all out. Even watched the 9 set youtube videos which really helped.

4) Anyone have star players or an extra team or two (for variety) on sale for cheap?!

1. Sure. I'm playing in a two-player league right now :v:

2. Prone means face down. The player does that when he is "Stunned" on the injury(?) table you roll for when you break through his AV. In your turn you can turn him face up and in the turn after that you can get him back on his feet for a cost of 3 MA.

3. I'm not sure, I'm pretty new as well!

4. Its easy to get warhammer minis for cheap on ebay that you can use/convert for blood bowl. I just took a bunch of clanrats and re-painted them. Those with helmets and shoulder-guards got to be stormvermin, those with other head-pieces were throwers, some night runners with capes were gutter runners and everyone else was a linerat. You can do the same for a lot of other teams. A box of dwarf warriors or chaos marauders will be enough for a starting team of dwarfs or norse.

by LITERALLY AN ADMIN

1) You can. Depending on your area though, you may have a local league running. I know there are several in the Pacific Northwest, and I have heard that there are a bunch out east as well. There is also a reasonable tournament circuit in North America so there may be one within a weekends travel from you.

2) Already answered.

3) The only potentially confusing thing I can think of is order of skill usage that can occur. (ie. I dodge away and roll, THEN the other guy gets to use shadowing.)

4) D&D Minis are also a cheap source of stand ins.

They've really been pushing it in various formats (card game, video game) and the old version has the same sort of lasting appeal that Space Hulk does.

I don't suppose any of you guys have ever come across any halfway decent fanmade campaign rules for Battlefleet Gothic? BFG is pretty much my favorite minis game of all time, but the campaign rules from the book are incredibly boring and badly balanced in practice. I'd love to see something closer to Necromunda's campaign rules in depth, but a lot of what I've come across online ends up being absurdly complicated to the point of requiring a dedicated GM to run.

I really don't expect it'll be Blood Bowl since you can still buy it and download the rules free from the SG site. Dungeon bowl might work, with with high quality parts and two awesomely sculpted teams.

Warhammer Quest would be pretty cool, even if all I did was use it as a nice set of baddies and tiles for D&D.

But think about it: Adeptus Titanicus set during the Heresy like the original box with a dozen or so unique and characterful titans along the lines of the ships in Dread Fleet and some ruined city scenery. That would rule so much.

That also sounds really cool, and if they're alternating Fantasy / 40k we should see something from 40k this year.

But the problem with Epic is that they've cancelled it three times already because people just don't buy Epic. (Four if you count Warmaster.) Which makes no goddamn sense because it's one of the best things they've done, but it just can't get traction.

e: I'd say that Space Dreadfleet or Advanced Space Crusade are more likely contenders.

Which I always thought looked silly and should be the other way around. It's a petty little peeve, but when someone falls down in sports, it's quicker to get up if they're face down. You have your hands in front of you and can bounce back up, if you fall on your rear end it's going to take longer.

I've heard a lot of mixed things about Horus Heresy, but the consensus seems to be that it isn't bad but plenty of other games offer a similar experience, better, and at a lower price tag. (And that you should play Chaos in the Old World instead.)

FFG took over a lot of GW's minor properties, but with Space Hulk and Dreadfleet GW has been returning to the boxed-game market in a super-premiem more special-than-specialist format. When I say they're due for another 40k related one, I mean that this year's Dreadfleet offering is probably going to be set in the 40k universe.

2) Check the section of the rules called Knock Downs & Injuries. Prone is face up, Stunned is face down. If the player is Knocked Down and your opponent passes the armour roll, the player may be Stunned, that's when you turn them over to face down.

So, as promised (even if it's a bit late) here's a battle report for Gorkamorka from my last game a few weeks ago.

Da Wizzladz vs. SAMCRO - OddMobs scenario "Gotcha"

In this scenario, one gang has found another while they are camping out in the desert somewhere. The defending gang starts 'at camp' in the middle of the table while the attacking gang appear from a random table edge.

Attackers: Da Wizzladz (Morkers)
Defenders: SAMCRO (Diggas)

Setup:

Defenders:
-SAMCRO Truck, digganob, shaman and two others setup by attacker, placed with vehicle and leaders in camp, three models set up on patrol outside of the the camp area.

-SAMCRO sniper (Half-Sack - has an ancient weapon with +1 to hit at long range) set up on rock spire bridge. kannon and 2 choppas at N. Edge of camp area. bike in middle of camp area.

Attackers:
-all deployed on South Table Edge NB. spanner ‘on foot’ is an ork with traks for legs.

Da Wizzladz Turn 1:

Movement
-Wizzkart accelerates hard towards the two Diggas on foot. Passes first thrust test, but fails the second! … moves 4” forwards, successfully ramming the Diggas closest. They take their initiative tests. Tig jumps out of the way. Jax has “Play Chicken” and “Headlong Leap” *** … Initiative test passed to board the vehicle! He can now choose which crewmember to fight first …
*** "Play Chicken" allows the user to face down a ramming vehicle, jumping out of the way at the final moment and shooting at it as he does so. "Headlong Leap" allows the user to board vehicles more easily. We have houseruled these skills to work in conjunction that after a successful "Chicken" test, "Headlong Leap" can be used instead of shooting at the vehicle, allowing them to attempt to board.

-Uneventful movement for the other two - attempt to get as far as possible but both fail early thrust tests.

Shooting
-Half-Sack is hit and pinned but unharmed by shooting from Grubnutz

Combat
-Jax fights against the driver and takes him out of action straightaway! … But there are four more angry orks on board … Fights against Dibbla and loses (suffering 1 wound) … Dibbla attempts to regain control of the vehicle and fails … swerves to the right and moves 1” forward, hitting Tig who is unharmed and knocked to the left side of the vehicle.

SAMCRO Turn 1:

Movement
-Tig successfully recovers from pinning with Jax’s encouragement. Retreats a short distance from the Wizzkart in preparation for firing his kannon.
-Nob & Shaman run to either side of the rock spire bridge. Chibs & Opie run into the centre of the camp.
-Truck maneuvers out between the northern rock spires, begins to thrust and attempts to turn … fails leadership test and skids further out into open ground.
-Bike maneuvers out between the western rock spires and thrusts out, turning to the south, thrusts again and turns to face the Skabtrak. Fails 3rd thrust test and lurches forward and spins to face southwest.

Shooting
-Tig fires at the Wizzkart and misses.
-Jax fires his blunderbuss and hits the crew but fails to penetrate the vehicles armour.

-Half Sack stands up from pinning.

Da Wizzladz Turn 2:

Movement
-Skabtrack attempts to ram the Digga bike which swerves away at the last moment.
-Spanner on traks moves towards the rock spire bridge.
-Orks from Wizzkart charge at the diggas on foot.

Shooting
-Grubnutz immobilises the bike with a lucky shot to the Nob Pins!
-Ineffective shooting otherwise

Combat
-Wizzgig charges Jax and obliterates him (7 hits! 4 wounds!)
-Goz attacks Tig first but loses to a draw, suffering 1 hit but no wounds. Skub follows up and wins by a draw, only inflicting a flesh wound! Tig remains on his feet to fight another round!

-Dibbla fails once again to regain control of the Wizzkart! Swerves... to the left! … but only 1” move forward. Phew... for now.

SAMCRO Turn 2:

Movement
-Clay charges Wizzgig! Boss fight!
-Chibs runs between the pillars of the rock spire bridge, closely followed by Opie.
-Half-Sack moves to the western end of the spire bridge, preparing to shoot at the Skabtrak.
-Piney walks around the corner of the eastern end of the spire bridge.
-Truck uses gas engines to turn towards the action. Two successful thrusts bring it further to the south where it stops, ready to unload with the ‘eavy shoota.

Shooting
-Bobby shoots from behind the wrecked bike at the Skabtrack, firing twice with his Rapid Fire. He hits the driver bit the shot pings off the armour.
-Half-Sack uses his antique archeotech weapon (+1 to hit at long range) to shoot at the Skabtrak but misses.
-Piney shot at Grung with his shoota, he hit but despite Grung suffering from having some organs ‘forgotten’ after his visit to the Doc he shrugs off the hit!
-’Eavy shoota at Grung... 4 shots from the sustained fire dice. 2 shots allocated to Grung - both hit. Both wound and take him out of action! 2 shots allocated to the trukk, both hit. 1 hit to Dibbla that is deflected by the armour. 1 hit to the engines that penetrates the armour, damaging the gas engines! Happy has earned his 10xp this turn...

Combat
-Clay narrowly beats Wizzgig in their fight. He attacks with his new ancient weapon, screwing his eyes shut in case it explodes like the last one he tried out. Zinggg! The weapon turns out to be ‘almost weightless’ giving the user +1 attack while also conferring +2 strength and always winning draws. Despite his beastly weapon, he fails to wound Wizzgig with his only hit scored.
-Tig keeps trying to fend off his two attackers. Skub manages catch him on the backhand with his choppa and takes him down. Skub and Goz quickly finish him off and prepare to support their leader against the Digganob.

Wizzladz Turn 3

Movement
-Goz charges Chibs beneath the spire bridge
-Skabtrak maneuvers towards the centre of the camp, electing not to thrust so as to give the crew a more stable shooting platform for their drive-by.

Shooting
-Gargrod hits Half-Sack but only manages to pin him.
-Grubnutz and Snufgob shoot at Opie, with Snugob’s shot taking him down.

Combat
-Wizzgig and Skub both lose their combats against Clay, but stay standing due to having extra wounds, Orky tuffness, and Morker luck! Wizzgig suffers a flesh wound.
-Goz attacks Chibs and manages to wound him four times! Chibs goes out of action due to going down in a one-on-one fight

-Dibbla once again attempts to take control of Wizzkart... and finally succeeds! Dibbla becomes the driver of Wizzkart.
SAMCRO Turn 3

Movement
-The truck continues to move slowly towards the action.
-Piney charges Goz
-Opie crawls into the relative safety of the far side of the spire bridge

Shooting
-Bobby continues to shoot at the track, rapid firing with his slugga. 2 hits, hitting Snufgob and causing him to fall from the vehicle, staying face down in the muck where he lands.
-Happy once again fires 4 shots at the Wizzkart, inflicting a wound on the driver and damaging the upper cog links, reducing all movement by -1”

Combat
-Piney wins combat against Goz thanks to the infuriating defensive power of his shaman staff, Goz suffers 1 wound.
-Clay, Wizzgig, and Skub continue their fight. Wizzgig manages to hit Clay twice but fails to wound; Skub is hit and goes down...

Wizzladz Turn 4

-Wizzgig fails the bottle roll! SAMCRO stand as the winners!

Teef are basically credits divided by ten. A Nob costs 12 to recruit, a Boy costs 5 and a Spanner costs 6, Yoofs (Juves) cost 3 so slightly more in equivalent terms, but they automatically get +1 Toughness when they reach 21 experience in addition to normal advances.

The only real effect it has when comparing Necro and Gorka gangs is that when calculating Gang Rating you need to divide all Orks experience by ten otherwise their costs get eclipsed by experience, so where Necro gang ratings are usually in 1000s, Gorka has them in 100s.

It would be extremely easy to combine the rulesets, and this is something that I hope to do one day.

As for the board, I made it with my friends Greg and Craig over a couple of weekends last summer. It's in Greg's house because he has the space to keep it. The cracked earth effect was achieved by cutting out bits of plasticard and gluing down (took forever) and painting over with textured paint. The hills were made by cutting out polystyrene shapes and the holes for the cacti were cut to fit their plant pots for easy removal for storage :3: Buildings and rock spires were made with plasterboard, which cuts and cracks really easily and takes paint really well. Altogether I think the materials for the board cost about £30-50, and was the work of two weekends for three people to put together.

The core ruleset is basically identical. There are a few things in the Necro rules which probably should be in the Gorka rules but seem to have been omitted - eg you have to charge the nearest enemy in Necro, but this is not mentioned in Gorka despite there being a skill which says you can choose who to charge. That's a pretty clear example of accidental omission.

There is also a simplified injury table, and the injury roll is different (1-2 is a flesh wound) ... I would consider keeping these rules for the Greenskins in a Gorkamunda/Necromorka to represent their being naturally hardier and less wimpy about losing fingers and going deaf etc. but this might unbalance things.

The only danger in just smashing Gorka and Necro together is that shooting is WAAAAAY more powerful in Necro. There are hardly any weapons higher than S5 in Gorka, and the ranges are all quite short. Necro heavy weapons (or even just Plasma and Melta guns) will absolutely murder the armour on Gorka vehicles.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but you have to bear in mind that there is very little cover on a Gorka board due to it being a desert wasteland (and this works with the rules so there is room for the vehicles to maneuver).

TL;DR: You could combine the rules as is but you'll probably get better results by thinking it through a bit more :)

The one I don't see mentioned that was my first really fun game from GW was a supplement release called 'Path to Glory'.

It was a Chaos Warbands thingie with what sounds like a similar squad system of persistent battles as you strive to lead your warband to glory and eventually your leader to reaching daemonhood. Or, more likely, turning into a gibbering chaos spawn that leaves you promoting one of your minor models to lead the warband to new glory :)

I loved the game, more fun than any big GW game I've ever played and was an excellent tool for dragging someone in and getting them invested in the game.

A guy just asked me for the rules last week so I uploaded them to a google doc today. They were released in a White Dwarf issue and were posted on GW's website for awhile before being abandoned. If anyone is interested in taking a peek.

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0yMCFY7ZX9BdmZxV2o3M1p1VUE

There were a lot of house rules and other versions floating around for a bit, but this is the only copy I still seem to have.
