I spent my rent money on tentacle porn.
Now that I think about it, not really. Most side missions in other sandbox games don't seem to have so many sections to them either though. It's usually stuff like taxi driving, spraying poo poo on people or bowling over zombies with giant rock fists.

I do get where GUI is coming from though. That mission did just seem to be walk from A to B to C then Drive after D. The reason I think it's a tutorial and the other missions will be a bit more involved is because each section was specific to a minor gameplay element. The forensic bit, the hacking bit, the disguise bit.

After watching it again, it looks like there was a safecracking minigame in the doctor's office that they cut out. I wonder why?

Also, it looks like there was a collectible stuck to the underside of the Aberdeen Bridge. I wonder how much platforming you'll have to do to find everything.

Yeah same, but I think amazon is the only place that does pre-orders and not pre-purchases so they already have your money. I think you can ask for a refund through CS and just buy it again but that seems like a waste for something like 3$. Refunding a pre-purchase on GMG should be fairly painless as long as they didn't send keys out yet or anything.

Greenmangaming throws out coupon codes like candy because they know they're getting a lot of traffic lately due to their Steam activateable pre-order sales.

Awesome, something to do over the afternoon lull at work.

edit: ended up being later than I thought so I missed the first hour and a half. Was pretty impressed with the 20ish minutes I saw. It looks pretty solid. Still not sure about the driving/physics, was hard to judge but the bikes seemed ok and that's mostly what I saw. The fighting seems REALLY solid, looks like a great combat system. Environmental objects light up red if you can interact with them when fighting, which is kind of handy in the beginning I guess.

There also seems like a lot of stuff to do which is good.

Although I was looking forward to this game, I'm quite honestly surprised it's getting 9/10's, and really surprised at how great the pc version looks and the options they've added for it.

Seems like the PR people that talk the most about how their games gonna have better pc support are the ones that never deliver.

I've been lucky enough to get an early copy. Gonna stream later today if anyone's interested and I wouldn't mind answering questions.
Here's three hours of gameplay from yesterday. There was going to be commentary, but first time streaming, etc etc. Just cover up the top left with something, it makes the video more enjoyable.

Some general stuff...
-Driving feels better than Saints Row, but worse than GTA.
-You can slam into vehicles exactly like Driver: San Francisco. In that there's a button dedicated to it and your vehicle takes little damage.
-You don't get firearms til (for me anyway) 3-5 hours in. The gunplay is pretty terrible, and the gun models look oversized.
-Firearms are rare. Most of my fights have been melee-based with the occasional weapon.
-The radio stations are poo poo, and seem to play DJs/ads who/that never shut the gently caress up.
-It's buggy, but restarting via a checkpoint usually fixes the issue.
-You can customize (via purchasing at various shops) tops, bottoms, shoes, wrists, glasses and hats. You can not change tattoos.
-You can buy cars, which are then stored at "parking lots" around the city. They're expensive, and you can't store stolen vehicles at the lots. You start with a slow motorcycle.
-If you match specific clothing, you'll get various bonuses (usually XP boosts), not unlike how "sets" work in RPGs.
-Clothes, accessories and cars are restricted based on your "face" meter.
-pressing-in the left thumbstick toggles waypoints for various missions, saving you the trouble of going into the map and setting it yourself (a small but neat feature).
-You have three levels. Your cop, Triad and Face levels. Cop grants you abilities/bonuses pertaining to firearms and heat. Triad, is the same as cop but for health, melee damage, hijacking vehicles without sounding the alarm, etc. And face is a special thingy that reduces damage taken and increases damage output in a fight. It lasts 20ish seconds or so. It's activated the same way multipliers are in Batman. There's more that these do, but it's hard to remember exactly when the game's not in front of me. Basically, you improve by unlocking moves, and gaining perks.
-The voice acting is well-done.
-Environmental attacks are disappointing limited, but you can use any vehicle door or wall to smash someone's head in with as well as ledges to throw them off of.
-Action jacking is hilariously stupid.
-Despite the freedom to choose to do cop or triad missions first, there are no branching paths or decisions to be made (unless it surprises).
-You acquire living quarters from progressing through the story, but you can also buy furnishings and upgrades for your home/apartment from random vendors. These don't seem to serve any purpose other than eye candy.
-The map is made up of four general areas, with two(three?) large urban centers that are accessible from the start.
-You can swim (no going under).
-Driveable boats.
-You can fire from your car just like True Crime.
-The car physics are also, hilariously stupid. Ramming cars or shooting out a tire will make them flip unrealistically and usually explode.
-You gain new moves/combos by finding small idols that you must return to your trainer. I believe there are twelve in total, and they're neither obnoxiously hard to find or out in the open.
-Your customized look appears as is in cut-scenes. Which is amazing and more games need to do this.
-You can buy temp bonuses from street vendors.
-Health regenerates halfway automatically. Sleep or buy food from vendors to fill it.

That's everything important off the top of my head.

\/\/ Not as smooth, but just as responsive. You can cancel strikes if you need to counter. Enemies who are about to strike will glow red. It's identical to Batman's '!'. There's also a terrible and thankfully optional lock on system for fighting.

Can you explain these two a little more? How are environmental attacks limited, is it variety or are there limited opportunities to employ them or both or what? And how is the gunplay terrible?

Hot drat these new trailers have really got me waiting for this sucker to come out. I was on the fence on getting either this or Dishonored, but decided that since I always put at least 100 hours into every sandbox game I play, I'm probably getting more bang for my buck by getting this one. Plus, you really can't gently caress up a sandbox game anyways.

I think I'm going to watch the live-action trailer again now, that was some good poo poo for what it was.

Sure. When you grapple someone, objects in the environment that you can insta-kill your opponent with will glow red. Things like phone booths, dumpsters, vents, exposed industrial fan blades, furnaces, etc. Vehicle doors (at least I'm pretty sure) and walls are not as lethal, and they don't glow. Relevant: To throw someone over a ledge, and only in this instance, you actually have to damage them enough. Trying to do so with an enemy with too much health will result in you bashing his head against the railing. All of these environmental instances can be utilized with B on the 360 (O PS3?), or by simply sprinting into them while grappling.

To answer directly; both. As for the shooting, it simply doesn't control well. It's incredibly floaty, the guns look ridiculous, the reticle is a big semi-circle, the A.I. is far from challenging and the cover system is bare-bones. Everything about it feels like either an afterthought, or the dev's first time. It's far from painful, but I'm sure other people won't be as forgiving.

smuh posted:

I don't know what the consensus is, but I think Saints Row has the worst driving I've experienced. Great game otherwise.
