People have been predicting that THE END IS HERE since there were people. That doesn't mean that we aren't loving the ecosystem up royally in ways that will bone us even a few hundred years down the line, but I've learned to be skeptical of apocalyptic thinking even if it is scientific rather than religious. In the late 80s we thought population growth was going to continue exponentially, when it has become clear that such is not the case. We need to get our poo poo together ecologically speaking, but overstating the case for that doesn't do any good because it just makes more people blow the whole serious issue off when the doom predicted doesn't happen on schedule.
