The instant the guy is shot the music cuts in, which is just so jarring as to be hilarious. The song choice isn't, I think, too bad (of course I'm speaking as someone who loves the song), and I think the cue would've worked if it was like most other music cues in TV shows with a slow audio ramp-up after the dude hits the ground. It would've helped too if the audience were able to listen to the background audio as the music cuts in- the thud of him hitting the ground, the ding of the telephone, etc. I think you're right. I thought the video clip was slightly funny for the reasons you mentioned, but not so bad. I've never seen that show or heard that song, and thought they went pretty well together. Good death song. We're used to mismatched music, but it's usually done in movies with a budget high enough to be mixed well.
