Also that one random guy in the background appears in the third episode at the beginning when it pans to the crowd asking for their Free Pizza.
He's also in that suspects' mugshot gallery later on.

On a slightly serious note, this show is adorable and way great, but I just have this horrible feeling that a really BAD fandom is going to develop. I really hope I'm wrong though. Adventure Time avoided it, right?
There will always be dumb people on the Internet. You should endeavor to enjoy things you like on their own merits and not seek out the worst things you can find to convince yourself otherwise.

Someone e-mailed Michael Rianda, and season 1 is apparently going to be 20 episodes.

I really miss the days when I could call myself a "fan" of something without the added baggage of "fandom". Now people assume you've got a tumblr full of original character do not steal self-insert fanfic at the very least, and in the most extreme cases, you literally think that one of the characters lives in your head and occasionally takes control of your body.
This has always been the case with weirdos, even before the Internet. How about we spend our time liking the show and not visiting Tumblr?

I could swear I bought season 1, and it shows up as "purchased" in iTunes, but I can't find any record of it being bought, and episodes 5 and 6 haven't downloaded and show the "Buy" button.

I remember that candy, I think, but Smile Dip is based off of Fun Dip. (Is Fun Dip banned, on that topic? Pretty sure it isn't, since I recall seeing it a few times in somewhat-recent years, although it is full of sugar, and kids who did what Mabel did and just ate the powder (most of them) could get a ridiculous sugar rush.)
Doesn't look like Fun Dip was ever banned, although there was a lot of debate in decades past about whether kids should be allowed to eat things with sugar in them, and Fun Dip is basically a big bag of Pixy Stix.

Goons need to realize that just because someone on Tumblr draws porn doesn't mean you will magically turn into a creep for watching a cartoon. But by the same token, nobody's forcing you to go look up porn on Tumblr, either!

If there was anything to complain about in this episode, it's that it was rehashing old material. Mabel helps Grunkle Stan something something, Dipper hates Robbie and loves Wendy, and everyone watching was a kid in the '80s. Yes, it was a mash-up of old NES fighting video games, but beyond the nostalgia, it was a story we've already seen.

Gonna go out on a limb and guess that three seasons is a liiiitle more than this series actually needs, so there will probably be at least a few of these episodes that coast on pop culture jokes.

Also, the "boys do this/girls do that" stuff doesn't seem so much like the brainwashing of our innocent children as the problem of trying to be snarky and cynical and adult in a "family" show. We're supposed to laugh not just at the kernel of truth behind the cliche, but also knowing that it's an anti-moral we're supposed to disagree with. That kind of cynical nudge-nudge-wink-wink feels out of place because other episodes stay sincere about their lessons.

When I was a kid most live-action shows for kids were pretty terrible, it was all awful sitcoms and game shows and the odd cheap Power Rangers or Goosebumps knockoff.
Yeah, as nostalgic as previous decades may seem, it's easy to forget that there were still dozens of shows like Clarissa Explains It All and Hey Dude!, or for those of us who didn't have cable, Small Wonder.

I wonder if Disney enforces that its shows have a "lesson" so it can be classified as an educational program.
If they're going for the official educational label, it'll have a little "ei" in the corner of the screen. But as far as I know, that's only officially for broadcast TV, and it comes with a whole host of guidelines about violence and language that a show like Gravity Falls might not qualify for.

Of course, being Disney, they could have their own educational content rules.
