Hello, and welcome to Goons in Platoons. This forum is populated primarily by men and women who are either currently in, or have previously served in the military, law enforcement or emergency response.

All standard rules of the other forums here on Something Awful apply. Here are some forum specific ones:

1. RESOURCE THREADS - These stickied threads are put in place to provide people looking for information about specific topics. Shitposting of any sort is not allowed in these threads - including trolling, spamming, empty quoting, one emoticon response, circlejerking or any other form of fuckery. Those who poo poo up a resource thread will be punished accordingly. Ask questions, get answers, the end.

2. DRUNK THREAD - There is a designated drunk thread in the forum. If you absolutely must post drunk, do it there. Be aware that the drunk thread is not an excuse to do whatever you want - NWS images, racism, etc are still strictly prohibited.

3. LOUNGE THREADS - Keep lounge threads at least somewhat on topic, if that thread has a topic in the first place. High activity lounge threads (such as the US Army thread) should be created every month, lower activity threads are permitted to go for two months.

4. OPSEC IS STILL A REAL THING. This is a very visible, very popular location. If you have to ask what is OPSEC and what is not, then it's probably not supposed to be on the internet. When in doubt, PM me and I will say if it is kosher or not. This includes using your subject matter expertise to explain various components of government infrastructure.

5. IMPORTING DRAMA - What happens in IRC stays in IRC. I don't want it leaking into the forums. Getting into some juvenile pissing contest will result in all offending persons probated or possibly banned.

I don't know what the gently caress has gotten into people in the past few days, but there is some goddamn hatred being passed around this forum. I don't want to have to probate a ton of people for importing drama from IRC, or having a slapfest in completely unrelated threads.

If you don't like someone and can't seem to either ignore them or make a civil, light-hearted jab I'm going to probate the everloving gently caress out of you. And it's not going to be for six hours.

I'm not asking for peace, love and understanding you nimrods. Stop making GBS threads up this forum with your petty horseshit.

This is a reminder to anyone browsing this forum that the title is Goons in Platoons. It is for future, current and previous members of the military, police and fire service. That's not to say you can't post here, but understand the context of the forum before doing so.

We have a unique sense of humor that has been created due to spending countless years in terrible deserts, mountainous shitholes and small metal boxes filled with Seamen. Those unfamiliar with our sense of humor might find it crude, offensive and vaguely homoerotic. Tough poo poo, that's military humor.

Each individual service has their own types of humor, their own mannerisms and their own social norms. Although some things are similar across the board, there are specific nuances that are unique to the individual service.

Every other military forum or website is absolutely terrible for various reasons, and the community here is one of the best you'll find anywhere.

So before you get outraged and fire up your morality brigade tumblr, remember where you are. And if you don't like where you are
