That reminds me-- during the NorthernLion/Edmund co-commentary a few months before WOTL came out, Edmund discussed some terrible/unfun items (The Bean/Lemon Mishap) and said that there would be better, not-horrible versions in the expansion. This resulted in the holy water vial and the Black Bean. That's fine, both of those are marked improvements from their original versions. Why keep the bad versions, then? It seems nonsensical to introduce new items built on the assumption that several of your old items were mistakes, and then leave the mistakes in unaltered as well.

Best Samson run so far. I don't know why, but I have better luck with him than I do with Cain. It's absurd. X-Ray Vision + Transcendence on the first floor. Mitre on the second floor, providing a steady stream of soul hearts to keep me alive. Devil deal for the Luck Foot. I proceed to have 0 keys through Necropolis I, where I have four gold chests and nothing but four coins and a slot machine. Slot machine blows up and gives me a dollar. I get an Arcade on Necropolis 2, and by the time I'm ready to face Mom, I've gone from 99 cents, 6 bombs and 0 keys up to 99 cents, 99 bombs and 50+ keys. The slot machine blew up into ANOTHER dollar. Then Womb II I completely ruin things with yet another arcade and no less than four slot machines on the floor, two fortune tellers (luck foot has them spewing out trinkets and soul hearts like candy) and tarot cards littering the floor. I find the Habit two rooms before Isaac in the Cathedral, and it doesn't even matter, my soul hearts are off the screen as it is. I forgot to count how many via bombs, but when I killed Isaac I had a ton of stuff. My fire rate was insane, and the only thing holding me back was more damage. Range too I guess, but everything died too quick for it to matter. ![]()

I'm not sure why the Bean and Lemon Mishap aren't on a similar timer system. They'd be much less catastrophically useless at least. The Bean isn't really that bad. It was the only active I ever found on one of my most successful runs and it served me pretty well. It's on a single room recharge, which means every single room you get a free poison that will probably kill or nearly kill two or three enemies on its own. It's not crazy good or anything, but that's fairly useful.

I had my first successful run with ??? last night. I got the Mitre early, then Mom's Pearl, then the Crystal Ball, so I was pretty much swimming in soul hearts. I also got Transcendence early, then made a deal for Whore of Babylon. I still hate playing him, though. Then again, I'm apparently in the minority that actually enjoys playing Eve more (I do have some insane luck when I play her, though).

TheGame posted:No, but then again I didn't say '3-4x as many enemies in every room.' Nor did I. If you've played the game enough to have a worthwhile opinion about it, and I'm assuming you have, you'll know that all the monsters I named can appear up to 8 times in a room. Adding one more monster won't appreciably increase the difficulty to most rooms, but adding more than one to those rooms would make them awful and no fun at all.

You seem intent to linger on the details of my post (or rather, one particular detail that I never defined) and not, as I keep pointing out, the spirit of it. After that last explanation you can't believe that I'm suggesting that there be 12 ball-crushingly difficult enemies in every room. I was just suggesting that there are probably cool things that curses can do.

Finally got that magic Eve run I needed to complete the game and get platinum god. Now I can go back to playing the way I want to. I don't have to pass up my favourite spacebar items just to carry around the Book of Revelations or the Nail. Speaking of which, what are everyone's favourite spacebar items for fun? When I'm not trying to get achievements, I have a personal rule to never pass up the Deck of Cards no matter what I'm carrying at the time. I also like the Teleporter, D20, Dad's Key and Best Friend.

Only one achievement holding me back from getting Platinum God, and it's no-damage the Depths. I'm hosed. On the other hand, I've spent less than $10 on this game and put more time into it than I put into Skyrim, so... totally worth it.

Greed heads and zombies both have way way too much loving health. It is not more fun to spend a much longer time shooting your enemies. Even at base damage, nothing should take more than ten shots to kill.

I just had a Xaiter-level broken bomb themed run with Maggie. First I got A Pony in Basement 1, which was nice. But then I got Fetus in a Jar, followed by Mr. Mega, Bobby Bomb, and Ouija board. Even without the Pony bug I was practically invincible, though the meat boys with eyes seem to have a bug where they're intangible as far as bombs are concerned (meaning they don't collide with bombs, the explosion still hits them) if there's only one left in the room. I had an emperor card and was all ready to cheese Satan, but unfortunately I didn't get invited to Sheol.

The left hand actually seems like a really bad trinket. I just had a run with maximum luck and the left hand and it was spawning red chests on what seemed like 2 thirds of the rooms. I noticed that it never dropped any of the red chests that contained items or the teleport to the devil room. I think the ones that drop randomly only give you live bombs, troll bombs, spiders and spirit hearts. I don't think it's worth it.
