JOINING THE SA FORUMS WILL REMOVE THIS BIG AD, THE ANNOYING UNDERLINED ADS, AND STUPID INTERSTITIAL ADS!!!

You can: log in, read the tech support FAQ, or request your lost password. This dumb message (and those ads) will appear on every screen until you register! Get rid of this crap by registering your own SA Forums Account and joining roughly 150,000 Goons, for the one-time price of $9.95! In some way I think if I had known about Something Awful earlier I'd joined much quicker

Also got on to SA because I play EVE. I fly with a vassal alliance of Goonswarm and thought I'd get an account here in case my alliance ever decided to go a different way, I could join up with GS.

Been very, very impressed by the general quality of posting and the number of knowledgeable people.

Also, I was a Goon before I was a goon. In High School some guy in shop class ran up to me:

Pimple-Stoner from Shop "Do you, or do you acknowledge that you are a Goon?"

Me *Shrug* "Sure, ok."

Henceforth my nickname was Goon for the rest of High School.

Takes a long time to save up 10 bucks and\or find someone with that much left on their credit card.

I lurked for 10 minutes before I had to set someone straight about a topic I don't remember.

For me it was reading things like the frankie story, and steadiman's steadicam thread that made me join up. Then I stuck around for stuff like squirrel punter, uranium phoenix' super zombie thread, and assorted stories from humper monkey and the like.

Also for playing games with goons (original CN crew represent).

Ages ago I saw some photoshop Friday thread about generic cereals with one being "Cheap poo poo Mom Bought" and it made me laugh my rear end off. I hung around and eventually found the forums. There's a lot of stupid loving poo poo here, weird poo poo I just don't get, and creepy 'Spergin neck beards, but it still makes me laugh on a constant basis. I put off joining for a long time because my ex was a goony goon and I assumed the forums were full of people like him. But I kept following links from other websites to threads here, and I liked a lot of what I read. Then the paywall went up around a thread I was following, and I took the plunge.

I don't know man everytime I go to the gym here there are like two huge dudes with raging high and tights snorting Nitro-tech off of each other's rock hard abs.
I always used to read the front page articles and whatnot, but I never knew the forums existed. I was pretty active on the chans for 3-4 years, but after a while, I realized I wanted a community that was more mature than the collective 13 year old anonymous. I began asking around for a new image board or something and my search led to either reddit or here. Reddit seemed like the same garbage only with all name fags (ugh), so an actual forum with a price tag to keep out children, assholes and spammers seemed like the only choice. Plus I finally became an adult with a job and a bank account so I could buy an account for myself without asking my mom for her credit card
My brother's a goon too, so that influenced my decision quite a bit

The website I used to post on was warcraft3.com and then it went down and I remember the older guys on there talked about SA so I came and registered

I've been banned in the past and have either lost access to old E-mail accounts or completely forgotten what E-mail I used to register. It's easier to start anew. Honestly, this is probably the first time I've hung around the forum and not really gotten into any kind of trouble. I've matured a lot.

After getting banned from every other forum I posted on, I joined Reddit on the advice of a friend. While a garbage community that's good for little more than leeching porn, I saw someone mention this place and after lurking for a week or two, I saw Slowbeef's name, and signed up because the site that originated retsupurae couldn't be bad, right? Coming from Reddit, it's nice to be able to go more than a thread without seeing the word misogyny.

I literally searched the word "forums" in Google and this was a top result.

The 7 years before that I was a member of Bungie.net and while the forums there were fun for a while, the average age of the userbase stayed the same and it became stale. Moderating there probably didn't help either.

I knew I had made the right decision when Goontube rolled around.

Heard of SA long ago thanks to its fiasco with eBaum's World, but somehow manage to ignore its presence beyond "that website with supposedly funny stuff".

Then one day I stumbled upon the forums at a whim and found a wonderful let's play. Later a paywall came up and I threw in the :10bux:.

I probably would have waited it out if not for the quality discussions in the other forums though.

I've been lurking since about 2004 or so when I first stumbled upon SA, which was introduced to me via Maddox's article bashing it (everything he wrote in those days was comic gold to my high school self). I finally got around to buying an account this year after finally acknowledging the fact that Reddit had irreversibly gone to poo poo and that most other free forums would probably suffer the same fate eventually.

Reddit is poo poo, but can be OK if you stick to just the smaller subreddits and away from the front page or crapfloods like / funny.

...kinda the same way I stay away from gbs here.

Kept lurking here since middle school for the hilarious front page reviews and photoshop phridays. Always peeked into GBS and such but sometimes the site would block me off and tell me to get an account! Wasn't until I got my own debit card that I was able to buy my own account at the end of high school. Finally I could read the forums to my heart's content!

I actually somewhat abandoned other forums I use to frequent because the maturity level of SA just made more sense to waste more time here than anywhere else. I mean not saying that Goons aren't stupid and never immature but it's leagues better than any where else I can go for humor.

And boy it's been worth it! :toot:

I was chatting in a small reunion about the Internet with some pals, and they were talking about famous and big websites, and we started flapping arround through this websites. Something hit me from SA, i had bad experiences from trolls and poo poo in other forums, and when i first got into it was... so interesting!! The OPs were flooded with information!! I learned quite a bit from my stay until today in the forums. I do admit im usually the one that asks questions, more than a provider... but well, time will give me the chance to be the OP of a nice thread :allears:

And oh... i LOVE the front pages :)

Even the smaller subreddits tend to do a nosedive in quality once they hit over 10,000 subscribers. I'd rather shell out ten bucks to forever be safe from all the internet riffraff out there. Despite all its flaws, even GBS is enjoyable in moderation.

I was once part of a chat room that had a very annoying acquaintance in it. One day, her trainwreck of a website got featured on SA's Awful Link of the Day with the phrase "OH GOD WHAT IS THAT AND WHAT DO I ROLL TO KILL IT." In addition to the horrible poo poo that was on her website, the SA people wanted to know more. Was she really as batshit as her website said? Was there even more stupid poo poo that she DIDN'T talk about on her ebsite and LiveJournal? I hated her guts in the first place and yes, she WAS that drat annoying. My thirty pieces of silver was a SA Forums account, and I've enjoyed the place ever since.
