![]() Fancy SA Forums is an extension for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox that reskins the SA Forums to be more pleasant, readable, and modern. It's generally styled after the current front page design. It looks like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Downloads Chrome Safari (warning: does not auto-update) Firefox* * Note for anyone on Firefox: Fancy SA 0.2 is working through Mozilla Addons approval, which is Balls Slow. Anal Tributary posted:Firefox* Woot, this finally went live! I'm not currently aware of any bugs in the Firefox version, so please post here or PM me if you run into issues with it. If you were using the Firefox extension before, this is a new update even from the versions I've posted elsewhere on the forums/Mozilla Addons, so make sure it click the link. The version that's currently up on Mozilla addons was updated for Choochacacko's upgrades, but has some inadvertent bugs as well. Also note that the big header image at the top of each page can now be hidden - click on the "toggle header" link in the top right. Once you've hidden the header, it should stay hidden across restarts and upgrades.

Stupid question, but can you change the width of the forums? I don't like them so narrow as it causes the thread titles to wrap.

^What those two said^ I'm getting some sort of issue with the forum width not adapting to monitor size and giving me giant gray borders. on FF14, it's sticking at ~1000px wide on both 1280 and 1920 monitors. Every addon except for fancySA disabled. ![]()

... Yes, it's a fixed-width reskin. That's the whole point. It makes text less fatiguing to read because it reduces the amount your eyes have to waggle back and forth. It also makes paragraphs more obviously paragraph-like by not spreading them out on two wide lines on a high-res screen. If your larger monitors at arm's length and laptop screens nearby are giving you different amounts of eye-waggle, you can always play with window zoom until you're sweeping the same arc on each computer. The title wrap thing is a credible concern, but don't confuse "Maybe it could be just a bit wider" with "Hey, this should be arbitrarily resizable!" On the issue of title wraps, though, I'm not seeing that even on the longest thread title I can find. Do you have text-only zooming enabled? That'd break any layout. E: Oh, I see it on a single GBS thread with a super-long title if I enable the Compact Mode toggle at the header. Factory Factory fucked around with this message at Jun 30, 2012 around 09:59 |

This is great, and I've been using it in both Chrome and Firefox for a while, but I have a couple of suggestions: 1.) Having a linebreak between the bookmark star and the thread tag doesn't look all that great. The version I have set up in Firefox uses a single line for both (I'm not sure if this is part of that version or some sort of accidental tweak on my end) and it looks a lot better. ![]() Is there any chance of making this how it looks in Chrome? 2.) You mentioned that a YOSPOS stylesheet selector is coming. Will this just be between Green and Amber, or do you plan on adding support for the other styles in the YOSPOS Terminal Switcher? The two extensions simply don't get along at all, and it'd be nice to have MacinYOS going. This might be beyond the scope of this extension, though... 3.) This is Firefox specific, so this is for Kapinga: The YOSPOS stuff seems to have broken horribly with whatever was done to add the "NICE!" buttons. It doesn't seem to be applying the sheet correctly, at any rate: ![]() I'm not sure if this is something specific to my configuration or not, but it still happens once SALR is disabled so it's not that. Not sure if it's worth fixing considering how shortlived that joke will be, but it's probably worth keeping in mind.

kapinga posted:Which version are you using? Anal Volcano and I both have plat, but this isn't how the top bar looks at all for me. Ahh, that fixes it. So I have SALR for Chrome installed, and by un-checking the "Display Configure SALR in forum menu" option, everything works as normal. When Fancy SA Forums is installed, that option instead toggles the "Private Messages" link for some reason (the "Configure SALR" never shows regardless of the checkbox - also SAClopedia stops showing up). Thanks!

YOSPOS fix posted, you can use the link in the OP or use this one, which should always point to the latest version. Anal Tributary, if you can, please update the OP to the above link. It's no big rush, but it will be easier to maintain this way. Also, to clarify, this is a fixed width style for SA. If you don't want that, you probably don't want to use this extension. Factory Factory is basically correct. Restyling things to prevent excess line breaks could be in the cards, maybe, but it will be almost impossible to guarantee that no thread titles ever had to wrap around. About the only page this is a concern on is the UserCP. Short of getting rid of the buddy list, though, I'm not sure how to fix that.

Thanks! Yeah, this is done a little hackishly right now, and we're just making the entries appear or disappear by counting what order they're in. In future versions, we should check for additional entries and get rid of or move them.

The two extensions simply don't get along at all, and it'd be nice to have MacinYOS going. This might be beyond the scope of this extension, though... So, I'd like to do this, but the issue is that (a) I need to do some loving around with MacinYOS and AmigaYOS (or whatever it's called) to make them work with the Fancy SA Forums elements and (b) I'd need to implement a YOSPOS style switcher. But that is basically what I was going to do next, so whatevs. kapinga posted:YOSPOS fix posted, you can use the link in the OP or use this one, which should always point to the latest version. Done ![]() And yeah, re: fixed width comments: that's kinda what the thread title is a joke about, because yes, that's always been kind of the divisive bit about the style. Basically, I wanted to maximize readability, and that means fixing the number of words per line. I'll be the first to admit there's more elegant ways to do it (that like 99% of sites do, of course), but with SA's table-based layout and this being a userscript, there wasn't much I could do without a complete redesign.

This is a great extension, and it makes the forums a lot easier to read! One minor thing though; is it possible to show how many new posts there are on a thread since I last read it in the User control panel? Maybe in the thread listings too but that's not hugely important. It's not a big deal at all. I just like to know how many new replies there are in a thread.

Maybe in the thread listings too but that's not hugely important. These should all be there, we're not messing with the default forums interface for new post counts at all. If you're using SALR to move the new post count elsewhere, my only suggestion for this version is to turn that off and let the default forums display do its thing. Of course, you also will need the "Show an icon next to each post indicating if it has been seen or not" option set to yes in the SA options.

lovely Treat posted:This is really nice, good work! Yeah, that's not right. Looks like it's the nature of the timg link that I didn't test. Clicking the majority of the image will resize it to say within the tables, but clicking on the blue overlay will cause the breakout you're seeing. Let me see if there's something I can hack over the standard timg code. Normal (non-timg'ed) images that break tables are linked out to a separate tab... not sure if that will be feasible here or not. E: Doing a quick test of this behavior in chrome, it appears the only difference is that, in Chrome, the whole post will break out of the content box, rather than just the image. Everything is still off to the right, which I don't think I can really avoid unless the image is not made full size. I'm still looking into changing the timg overlay to link to a separate tab. This may be a longer term bug to fix however. kapinga fucked around with this message at Jul 1, 2012 around 18:16 |

Can you PM/email/post (e-mail's in the profile) details about your Firefox version and addons/greasemonkey scripts you might be running? The script is clearly crashing on something, which is causing the table-unbreaker function not to run. Sorry you're having so many issues. mike- posted:In safari on User Control Panel, every time you hit edit bookmarks it adds another minus image. I imagine this should probably be more like a toggle? Looks like this is supposed to be a one-time event: if you turn FancySA off and try it, the minus buttons appear and then the "edit bookmarks" button disappears. You have no way of toggling the minuses back off without reloading the page. I'll check into where we're overriding that, it should be fixable in the next release.

Proper behavior at this point: *Large images are resized down to fit the table, wrapped in a yellow border, which will pop the image out in a separate tab. *Clicking on the body of a timg will resize it to fit the table without breaking it *Clicking on the blue box of a timg will expand it to full size, breaking the tables *Text and other content that is too wide will break the table In both cases, "break the table" means that the post body will expand outside of the background column. lovely Treat posted:Still getting some table breaking it seems. Nope, it's because the image was an attachment, which I forgot people actually use. They're identified a little differently, and so fell under "something else". Getting the image to be resized is easy, but right now the link doesn't work - you have no way of seeing the full size image. This is a problem Chrome (and I assume Safari) has as well, so getting that fixed is a less urgent matter right at the moment. Update link. I'm not going to push this one to AMO unless there's no further changes before it gets approved.
