Thanks for bumping this, I was reminded to push an update out. Firefox upgrade to version 0.2.4. As always, here's the update link. Version notes: * Fixed the script to render the "Search the forums" page properly * Updated the homepage to link to this thread * Reworked the DOM manipulation code to satisfy AMO's security concerns. I'm pushing this one to AMO as well, hopefully they'll accept it this time... LordAndrew posted:This is really nice! I did notice a colouring issue when you search though: If this is on Firefox, can you upgrade to the new version and check again? If it's still a problem (or you're not on Firefox), can you explain a little more by what you're doing? Those shades of blue shouldn't ever show up due to this extension...

I'm on Google Chrome. The second image with the blue is me highlighting the numbers. The first image is how the search page appears. I thought there was only one page at first, but the other page numbers are white so you can't see them normally.

Testing out on Chrome, doesn't seem to be happening with a quick search. Those page numbers are supposed to be the dark blue color, with "Pages (12)" in black. Looks like something's screwed up and the page numbers are being styled like a normal forums listing. Do you have SALR or any other add-on that might be messing with the layout?

There we go, that was the problem. Strange I hadn't noticed that before, I've used that feature once or twice. I'll look into a fix, but not until the weekend. This is a strange page that seems to be a hybrid of a regular search page and a forum listing.

Found out it's some sort of conflict with Adblock Plus. Disabling ABP for the site fixes the problem. Digging in a little bit, I found that with ABP enabled, even if I have no blocklists enabled in ABP, it breaks the stylesheet somehow.

Huh. I've always used Adblock, not ABP, so never had that issue. Might take a look into it.

Might be neat to add (with his permission). Mind you, the code boxes aren't wonderful anymore with the multi-colour text in the background, but I'm sure that's solveable.

I expected this to make more efficient use of screen space, not less. If you're trying to reduce eye movement, why not use a columns layout like the Wikipedia Metro app?

I do like the updated look on Safari but on my macbook air it's a terrible waste of space since I'm never full-screening the forums. How difficult would it be to add in an option to remove the "frames" on either side but retain the new look? I know this is against what you're trying to do in principle but it would be nice to have the best of both worlds.

Dominoes posted:I expected this to make more efficient use of screen space, not less. I did a concept like this a year ago but it was way more effort than it was worth and far beyond the scope of a user style that just rearranges stuff on existing web pages. Maybe if Chooch ever gets an API going I'll look into it again.

Did this resolve itself for you on the latest nightlies? I just installed and doing some very initial snooping around everything seems fine. From the image, it looks like the javascript component was failing pretty early, but it's definitely running to completion now. I've got a few more checks to make, but for now I'm assuming it was a fluke with that particular build. JohnnyCanuck posted:Hey guys, Vector Sigma wrote a userchrome script to prettify quote- and code-boxes, as such: Woah, that was a blast from the past. I remember that thread, and I remember making my own, variant of the quote box, with a simple 90% transparent background. We're not likely to add it though. We haven't done anything to modify the thread display, except the bare minimum for fixed-width and handling things that break tables. That said, in my own experience such modifications work perfectly with this extension, so you should be able to run both at once without problem.

I've seen, and liked, a feature in the Android SA app that highlights the post when someone quotes you or if you yourself post. I'm not sure if this is within the scope of this extension, but I find it really useful when scanning through threads to respond to a quote. It would be awesome if you guys would consider adding it.

This is really beyond the scope of this extension, but it's one of the features included in (iirc)SA Last Read. SALR does a lot more than just quote highlighting, but most of it's options are configurable and can be turned off. Note, though, we still haven't fixed the header row display fix, so you will need to go into the SALR options and disable the "Add 'SALR Config' item to forum's menu" option. kapinga fucked around with this message at Nov 13, 2012 around 17:29 |

Everything is looking good here with a few notable exceptions.![]() ![]() Top one, the header that was previously there is no longer, and the menu bar is too long for the background, also it seems to be unevenly spaced. Bottom one you can see the page listing screwed up there somehow. It's the same on the top.

Those screenshots tell me that the new left margin in the post body breaks the anti-table-breaking width limiter on expanded TIMG. It now just out a bit, about as far as the menu bar does.

I imagine a whole lot of things have broken with this update. When you report things, please try to mention whether you use Chrome, Safari, or Firefox. Most of the code is the same, but there is some browser specific code that may or may not behave slightly differently. Firefox known issues (me just looking around real fast):
Notably, I am not seeing that table-breaking is an issue in Firefox. Please let me know if you see any new table-breaking behavior. Edit: The search page is completely unchanged. kapinga fucked around with this message at Jan 1, 2013 around 00:15 |

Quick, informal poll - Would you guys who still use Fancy SA prefer we adapt to this new layout/its color scheme and style, or revert as much as possible to how it was before? Personally, I quite like the new color scheme and overall look, but have issues with some elements (buttons, lack of fixed width, small font sizes). Fancy SA Forums was always intended as an improvement on the current look of the forums, so if there's anything in particular you don't like about this new style make sure to post about it so I can take it into consideration
