"Nonconformist", because it's always used to deride someone who doesn't like what "everybody" likes (usually meaning what the user of the word likes). No, I'm not "just being a nonconformist" because I'd rather listen to punk rock than pop. I've had over 30 years to figure out what sort of music I like, and I like this stuff. Not because I'm "being a nonconformist", not because I "just hate popular stuff", this is what I genuinely like to listen to, and I don't mind listening to something else if it's really annoying you. Likewise "raging against the machine" as code for being slightly upset with a perceived authority figure (even if it's just a company you bought something from). I'm not raging, let alone against any machine, I just want these people to honour the warranty they are legally obligated to provide, and have provided in writing. In this case, were I raging, it would be for the machine since I'm trying to get someone to follow the law. Edit: I've even drawn the "raging" thing for saying that the government lowering the residential speed limit from 50kph (30mph) to 40kph (25mph) would be useless. When people start saying things are "objectively crap" when talking about art, music, or anything else subjective. Yeah, you don't like folk/punk or doom metal or acid trance or whatever the gently caress, but it's not objectively crap. There's plenty of badly played music out there that is objectively crap (usually being badly played by a lone douchebag on an acoustic guitar at a party), but you can't look at a whole genre or subgenre and say "that's all poo poo, you are poo poo for liking it".
