I played a game of TDM where half the other team would do some Harlem Globetrotters poo poo with the flag; throw it between people moving at 100+ in midair in opposite directions, drop it and pick it up right when someone on my team was about to grab it, etc. It was great.

How good are infiltrators, I've been enjoying pathfinder to start out with but the infiltrator looks fun, is it worth it?

Ok, from the steam pack I've got the three classes I'm most interested in unlocked: Technician, Raider and Infiltrator. What stock stuff do I need to upgrade right away for these three classes?

Since it's double experience times, those will go up fast enough.

An SMG is somehow better than a 1-2 hit kill explosion weapon with a forgiving AoE...indoors?? What??!!??!? EDIT: You said, "spray around the room" so I assumed you meant indoors. Like the gen room. The worst room. For the new player, you job as an (effective) tech is to lay down turrets near the flag or nearby cap routes. Guard the flag stand from a high point with your thumper and keep an eye on base turret and radar health, repairing as necessary. You'll also be primarily responsible for upgrading those base turrets and radar, so do it when you have enough credits because they're pretty much useless until level 3-4. Only go in-base to repair the generator if there is NOTHING else to do. The Joe Man fucked around with this message at Jul 5, 2012 around 00:16 |

It's better outside (where you should generally be, even as a Technician) and a passable alternative to the Thumper indoors. Just sayin' that that our new pal doesn't really need to scrounge up 88k XP for it right away. The Thumper is certainly a lot more fun than the default SMG. Almost any automatic weapon in this game can be filed under "Effective, but joyless." But yeah, the Mechanic perk isn't really necessary. I usually run the vehicle perks on my Tech (Pilot/Wheel Deal).

I've been playing and enjoying Doombringer a lot. However it gets really trite when I'm trying to defend the flag and some jerk playing another type of class gets in my face and tries to kill me (they can't). I'll just sigh and rev up my chaingun and they'll die. Like, oh some infiltrator is trying to stab me. Some guy just destroyed my inventory station. Some sniper thinks they can kill me. STOP IT GUYS I'M TRYING TO SHOOT FLAG CAPPERS YOU CAN'T KILL ME SO GO DO SOMETHING ELSE (thanks for the credits so I can constantly rebuild my inventory station I guess)

Mechanic is a bad secondary for Tech? But, but... Fix things faster Maaaan! Tech are supposed to fix things fast right? I can see the reasoning easy enough though. Granted Survivalist won't feel like as much of a huge gamechanger on a Tech. I mean, what Secondary perk are you using on your Tech instead of Mechanic, and is it making a huge difference in Tech specific play? Though from a "don't throw your experience at Mechanic in the first place" angle, I could see where you are coming from. As for the Pilot perk, not like that's exactly something specific to Techs, anybody with an income can go Joyriding. Though can see it's appeal over Mechanic, and on a Tech you wouldn't be sacrificing a Must Have, like not using Ego on a Pathfinder, or not using Survivalist on an Infiltrator.

Bought the starter kit right before it went off sale, been dicking around ever since. Is there any hard and fast rule as to what's good and what's poo poo to blow gold on generally?I figured I'd just grab whatever dailies catch my eye and blow XP willy-nilly until the bonus weekend ends. On a side note, I unlocked brute for the hell of it and I'm doing surprisingly well for myself doing suicide runs dropping mastered fractals on the enemy flag as they defend it. vvv That sounds amazing, thanks~ Meldonox fucked around with this message at Jul 5, 2012 around 00:49 |

The more I play I wish they would just disable Fractals and Plasma weapons until they can sort them out. Fractals are just annoying and Plasma gun/cannon venture way too far into Pay To Win.

Mechanic is certainly a decent Tech perk for that slot, but really only for the Tech. Being that an extra 10 percent repair rate isn't very much time saved at all, Survivalist is a good alternative that happens to be fantastic for the two other classes he mentioned, Inf and Raider. Survivalist is the poo poo! quote:As for the Pilot perk, not like that's exactly something specific to Techs, anybody with an income can go Joyriding. Tech pilots are a thing because you have a repair tool on hand straight from spawn. On respawn, you can quickly deploy your turret and grab a new shrike, then when it gets damaged and things are calm, you can heal up. I find it's most useful when your team has trouble keeping a generator up, I usually run pathfinder pilot instead as sometimes you'll have your shrike taken out while trying to get the enemy capper, and if that happens, you need thrust and 2 nitrons to stay up with them for the one last shot at making the play. My shrikes die more frequently, but I rarely have a problem getting the kills to afford a new one before my shrike is blown up. The shorter lifespan of my shrikes though means that if the gen gets taken out, I have to switch roles or clear the gen room out just to get a new shrike.

I've started running Bounty Hunter and Sonic Punch on my sensor-thumper-tech. Spend the first few minutes in the gen room thumping/meleeing anything that comes in (into pits or otherwise.) then upgrade/switch to shrike play. Bounty Hunter works amazingly well across the board, the down-side is you might want to have better than average skills if you want to be using it in a perk-slot.

Raider with grenade launcher, whiteouts, looter/survivalist is also one of the best to take out turrets, chasers, snipers, and HoFs. You're an all-around offensive player. For your secondary weapon, you've got a choice of 3 different bullet weapons, the highest damage is the NJ5B, but it's difficult to hit with early, the easiest bullet weapon to learn bullet weapons is the desert NJ4, which has the highest rate of fire so gives the most feedback.

Infiltrators are the most combat-ready of the light classes. They have some really cool weapons (sticky explosives, throwing knives) and the cloak is good for getting into places that the enemy doesn't want you to be. They're pretty much the best at taking out the generator.

Some of these high rankers are so adorable. There was this one rank 39 Raider (second highest on server, other was a rank 40 on our team). He was doing low low in ins team scores in Capture and Hold mode. I was Pathing it up to rank Thrust pack. Kine: Oh, the Doombringer is rank 9. Big surprise. Me: Rank doesn't equal skill man. Kine: Spoken like a true copper. Me: I just know when I hit 40, my aim will still be just as bad. later on, Me: Kine, How come you're the highest ranked person but you're one of the lowest in score? No response, but he quit the match a minute later. As for Bounty Hunter, I figure Bounty hunter is more important than Safty third if you are a kamikaze Brute. That's +300 a kill and another +100 for Belt kills

Man, I had my first match in the big leagues and it was a goddamn riot. Folks were getting mad (as well they should) because I was generator camping with a brute, spitting out fractals left and right. To stay loyal to the original Tribes, as I've done in every single match so far, the entire time I spammed shazbot. This time, so did everyone else. For something like fifteen minutes hardly a second passed without someone spamming shazbot. Both teams were doing it, seemingly everyone did but two or three people who were getting pissy about it. I died a few times because I was simply laughing too hard at the deluge of shazbot to bother dodging poo poo or getting away from my poorly-aimed fractal. Video games.

I am absolutely terrible at this game, but making that one perfect shot per round makes it all worth it. My best so far was shooting the Juggernaut's mortar at random and accidentally nailing an incoming shrike. I also just unlocked the Brute. Is the second fractal grenade worth it? Because I spent gold on it right out of the gate.
