az jan jananam posted:A children's magazine put out in Tunisia describing how to make molotov cocktails, I have no idea why. It's not telling them how to make it, it's telling them what it is. Part of it reads "It is often used in acts of vandalism and rioting" So it's not putting a positive spin on it. Still though. It would be strange to you that this is shown in a kids magazine. Culturally, children in Nort Africa are not shielded from acts of violence, they are more or less taught that it is something that happens regularly.

Seeing that most of them pulled it up slightly, low effort Phyregian caps maybe? Really, really ironic if this was true. For those not in the know the Phyrgian cap is held as a symbol of liberty and freedom in France. Worn by French revolutionaries. All the more often strong symbols like this one are appropriated by modern far right groups and then uninronically calling for the opposite of what the symbol means. I cannot, which is why I thank Apollo each and every day for his guidance. In actual, serious news: The Algerian Presidential elections are coming up in April. Only two parties are going to run this time as opposed to the 6 in 2009; The incumbent Bouteflika (pictured) of the FLN (National Liberation Front), Ali Beniflis of the same party, and Louisa Hanoune of the Workers' party. All present as Left-wing parties, with the FLN being socialist democratic and the Workers' Party being Trotskyist. I'm going to vote for the first time. And I have much reading and research to do and relatives and friends of relatives to speak to As I've been at a complete disconnect from my home country's politics for the longest while. Though for my relatives I know they would recommend Bouteflika, as he's widely popular where I come from. Rigged Death Trap fucked around with this message at 14:03 on Feb 5, 2014 |

Stultus Maximus posted:American food is awesome because it's what happens when you have immigrants (voluntary and otherwise) from all over the world meeting each other and modifying it, fusing it, and using new world ingredients in it. American-Italian, American-Chinese, Tex-Mex, soul food, Cajun food... American-anythings are usually incredibly sanitized and highly cherry picked versions of the actual thing. I don't think there is a uniquely (not native)American food, per se. Rather a uniquely American way of adapting things. -Huitlacoche, or simply, Corn Smut. It's not as apparent now due to a larger wave of homogenization in foods eaten globally, though.

It's Tu Quoque. "He says he stands for women's rights, but how can he when he is not a woman himself!" It's a juvenile view of any given situation where it posits that advocates for a cause can only belong to whichever group directly benefits from that cause. And any that do are sure to possess hidden agendas. And it's smug rear end in a top hat status quo centrism at it's worst. and I loving hate that with a passion. Its a shameful democracy when peoples' votes can just disappear like that. Neoliberalism thrived on the first past the post system. (Or maybe this is a misattributation and it was a coincidence. Id like some clarification)

My Comp Sci lecturer last year was a woman. Shes been coding about twice as long as I've been alive and she's pretty much the person I most respect in our department. I honestly don't understand the reasoning behind 'man do this job woman do that' since you by doing that you are definitely restricting people from achieving what they want in life. A poster encouraging women to pursue technology studies at University of Valle, Cali, Colombia. It reads: "If it's not appropriate for women, it's not appropriate. Women and technology."
