Decided to give this a spin, glad I did. The show has such an exceedingly strange sense of humor, but my favorite part is probably the Mediator's dead-pan sarcasm. Also, my reaction to the sentient marmalade pretty much echoes Mediator's perfectly: "Ew." It's just such a perfectly deadpanned reaction to such a strange and disturbing situation.

Best zany show since Excel Saga? Only time will tell, but I freaking lost it at the slow motion headless chickens 'dying' to Ave Maria.

The lyrics to the gpening song really fit the tone of the show. (This is just a quick by-ear thing, not guaranteed to be correct!) Real World Papapara papapara Papapara papapara Papapara papapara Papapara pa When I first woke up, you laughed that I believed such a world could last The everyday just isn't enough I've seen the blue night sky from a twisted viewpoint I confessed my love on countless mornings It's starting to go a bit sour If you approach us, we're delicate Let me show you a fleeting dream Sometimes good things happen, too Your reward is chocolate If you can see a sweet dream Then just laugh everything away March straight up that hill Bend your ear to what can't be seen Beckoning voices can be heard There are many barricades Break them down to learn more And become something unknown In this mysterious world

Those loving chickens. Those ones that get stuck in the sewing machines and made into shirts. And the ones that get pressed into CDs. And I love that the bread machine just cooked them. Any show where I hurt myself laughing so much is good in my book.

Okay my being on the fence about the first episode is now firmly on watching this show, episode 1 was a great set-up to this episode and I found the juxtaposition between rainbow cheer and seedy evil entertaining. There wasn't a bread scene this time but Mai's voice acting and Mediator's attitude in general (especially towards other humans) has got me hooked.

This is pretty much going to be Show of the Year for me by default if it keeps on like this. It's like someone went into my brain and made My Show. I am as enthused as I am unsettled. Mediator/Watashi is the best character, too. Her relatively deadpan reaction to everything ("no, this is where we start fighting for survival, right?") and her occasional scheming have really endeared her to me. The way she broke into a fairy smile and started menacing the manager was the best part of the episode. MagicalDuck posted:The lyrics to the opening song really fit the tone of the show. (This is just a quick by-ear thing, not guaranteed to be correct!) Thanks for this. The OP and ED really seem to be approaching the atmosphere of the series differently. The OP seems entirely positive until you listen to it, but the ED is pretty creepy from the get-go despite the bright colors. Still haven't been able to find the translated lyrics anywhere, though. Might have to wait for the single release.

I knew I was in the long haul from minute 5 of the first episode when they pulled a: Do Something --> ??? --> Profit! joke. But holy poo poo, that second episode. Brilliant! Something I was to note which is a little Japan-specific, even in bureaucratic terms was the Mediator's conclusion towards the town meeting. "Meetings are decided before they begin" is something characteristic of Japanese culture more so than anywhere else. That having been said, I guess I have to start watching out for people named "Geoff" now.

I love the Mediator's subdued reactions to stuff. The show would probably feel like it was trying too hard if everyone was all over-the-top EHHHHH?!? to all the zany situations, so the way the Mediator just takes everything in stride makes it that much better.
