Another loving beach episode for another anime. There wasn't anything in this episode that really moved the story forward much except for the relationship between Bridges and the Lientenant. Except, we knew that was going to happen anyway. The Russian's interest in Bridges is a surprise. I wonder exactly what the nature of that interest is, though.

IIRC there should be some amount of development in the next episode, (beach episode part 2) though that's as far as I've read. From what I've seen in Japanese threads it sounds like we should get some more BETA before too long though.

For a beach episode, that could have been much worse, specially given this show's origins.

How the hell does one sprain an ankle so severely on wet sand that you can't even limp along? Another thing, what exactly has Yuuya done to "interest" Cryska? Their interactions have consisted of: got a gun aimed pointed at his face and bitched at during that inconsequential drone thing.

Were you expecting it to change your mind, really or do you just like to watch shows that you dislike? MLA is a pretty interesting but fatally flawed VN but it creates a very interesting world and almost all the MLA sidestories are far better than it once they're freed from the core issues that ruined MLA (awful characters, incredibly awful main character, being too long, blatant flashback abuse). I'm reading through TDA while watching this and the difference is just staggering. TDA is absolutely amazing and this is just irredeemable garbage.

Nate RFB posted:I don't think anyone was expecting TE to be better than MLA. I think I'll reserve final judgment on TE until later in the series, but it definitely has the weakest characters of the various Muv-Luv properties. Half of them are generic and the other half are stupid. I'm hoping that we'll see some decent action (and character death) later on, but it's probably just going to be Yuuya realizing that Japan is the Best Country and expanding his harem to include every girl. TDA's pretty solid character-wise, and I personally thought MLA only had 2-3 misses, though opinions on that tend to differ on personal preference. Lately, though, I've been reading Muv Luv Chronicles: Adoration, which features the cast from The Euro Front. And it is Fabulous. ![]()

Well, Muv-Luv Alternative was released just a few months before Code Geass's first episode, so even at the absolute earliest it would have probably been published while that show was airing.

Makabe, on the other hand, is incredibly blatantly Lelouch. Someday I'd like to read through the Tech Gian and Dengeki Muv Luv magazine stuff. It just seems like the main age guy (Kouki) looked at Macross Plus as his source of inspiration. "Look, those main characters are going at it constantly!" and decided insert something similar into his own franchise. Except he doesn't seem to have an inkling of an understanding as to why it worked in Plus (key point, the characters in Plus had an emotive state beyond "angry glaring").

Jesus christ this is just getting worse by the episode. Yui and Yuuya are like the only characters who have recieved any form of characterisation and they're also the 2 worst characters of the show. I would probably actually really enjoy some backstory episodes for the other squad members but it seems like those guys are just white noise characters at this point. I honestly kind of liked Yui's "hard bitch" character after the first 2 episodes set up her backstory but now they've just thrown that in the loving trash and made her another tsundere uguu "i need a big strong man to protect me" snoozefest. I wasn't a fan of ML's characters but at least they were consistent, you could even gently caress any of them and they still stayed fairly consistent reasonable characters. This show literally has worse characterisation than a porn game.

It takes a special talent to make a worse episode than 6. They managed to succeed in the very next episode with 7. What episode does the other director take over? That's all I can see saving this train wreck and he's got a massive job ahead of himself.
