Trying to depart a bit from my usual. I used to enjoy going out and taking photos of cars on the highways here, but I suddenly just got really bored of the whole thing. Went out the other day with the wide(ish) angle lense and tried something a bit different. I wanted to capture a little of the HK atmosphere in the photos and in doing so thought the pics reminded me of 90's Hong Kong cinema, hence the 'opening credits' style and widescreen effect I've gone for. Still deciding whether it's an idea worth pursuing...

I think it's cool man.
Always thought black bars was a real nice aesthetic.
You post is nice as always. Muted colours, fairly dark etc. Seems to be a thing not many people are into but I love it.

This thread is dying a bit.
Have a cool link.
Anyone familiar with this dude, John Zhang?

http://1013mm.com/blog/2012/08/1013mm-portfolio-updated/

I dig his work and he seems like a super good guy.
Some of the tips and image builds are cool and interesting too.
Also can a mod change the thread tag?

What wheels are those? They look OEM, but awesome.

He claims they're from a European CC, and they're only 1 of 2 sets he knows of in the states... But, the only reference I can see is that they're from the concept car, which means they're replicas made by another company. Should I break his heart?

Not quite yet, check out these wheels that were on the European CC eco performance concept:

They bare a striking resemblance.

Is there a tasteful way to blur a license plate?

Why do people insist on blurring licence plates? What exactly is so sensitive about a number that is literally seen by every single person that sees your car in public?

Maybe they're fugitives and they don't want police scouring the internet for photos that may aid in tracking them down. :colbert:

(I think it's stupid paranoia too)

Thanks! Yes, they're uncommon (except in parts of the country) so they have this Amcar reunion each year where people can come and show off their old American Classic.

Them cheap rear end yongnuos or whatever with some radio triggers + softbox do the trick for me. I use a 560 for TTL stuff too, but as remotes go they are a bit rich imho.

Also my rig is almost finished so I should be back to contributing shortly :)

Thanks! Lighting setup was relatively simple: 2 speedlights on each side. I was using 2 600EX-Rts wirelessly triggered by an ST-E3, no modifiers... but any speedlight/trigger combo should do just fine. On the last image with the NSX, one of the speedlights ran out of juice so only one fired.

Thanks for the lighting tips! I've been asked to do a couple of photoshoots for a foreign tuning magazine, so I need to sort myself out with some lighting gear. Hopefully I will be able to get some more gigs out of it (all being well), but I don't want to go overboard on the budget. Need to find my feet with the whole thing first.

Saw this in my building's garage while playing with the AE-1 Program I found at the flea market. Not as cool as most of the cars posted here but I like the shot. I think the guy who drives this also has a red Lotus Elise, I guess this is his daily driver. Sadly that car was really backlit and I don't have a flash so those pictures came out terribly.
