Nicec pic of the Black Series, I just love those cars. I'm sure it would be ok to post quality stuff like that in the other thread, wouldn't it?

Without a doubt the most awesome Eclipse I have ever laid eyes on and great photos too. I'd love to try some rig shots!

So, are we going to keep this going as the non-motorsport pics thread or merge the two? I am definitely looking forward to sharing some pictures with you guys lokking at yours for some inspiration.

In the meantime... This is a friend's 20's Bentley that we drove to Le Mans in convoy with over the weekend. Nicknamed 'Mrs Thornton' after the previous owner, this monster just goes like stink. People in rep-mobiles try to overtake it thinking it's slow only to give up when they realize it goes like a locomotive. I did 4-laps of the Le Mans (Mulsanne straight) circuit, and as you can imagine I still have the grin on my face!

Trying to depart a bit from my usual. I used to enjoy going out and taking photos of cars on the highways here, but I suddenly just got really bored of the whole thing. Went out the other day with the wide(ish) angle lense and tried something a bit different. I wanted to capture a little of the HK atmosphere in the photos and in doing so thought the pics reminded me of 90's Hong Kong cinema, hence the 'opening credits' style and widescreen effect I've gone for. Still deciding whether it's an idea worth pursuing...

Nice! After all these years the 350Z is finally growing on me. Saw a lot this morning, but the photos are at work. Also left the usual camera at work and had to off the old D80 with the nifty-fifty...

Cue the music...

NSX and Supra pics are great! I need to invest in some lighting kit soon in order to do some planned shoots. Any recommendations that you might have would be fantastic!

Thanks for the lighting tips! I've been asked to do a couple of photoshoots for a foreign tuning magazine, so I need to sort myself out with some lighting gear. Hopefully I will be able to get some more gigs out of it (all being well), but I don't want to go overboard on the budget. Need to find my feet with the whole thing first.

Some really nice shots above! @clown that abandoned petrol station is a great location!

Good news! In the last few weeks I have got my first properly published photos in a car magazine and I will share the scanned images of that with you ASAP. In the meantime... Couple of random shots from Sunday. I definitely feel I've found my groove in recent months, I only really find myself shooting at two very opposite fixed lengths and shutter speeds; that is fast and long of wide and slow. I've found that after using a lot of post-pro a while ago, I'm over that and my main objectives now are to shoot well-exposed technically decent images with strong composition and clean backgrounds. I really want to do more planned shoots rather than just shooting stuff that happens to be out and about on a particular day.

200mm is my favourite focal length for capturing cars frozen in action shooting at around 1/500-1/800 sec usually gets the job done. It helps to have something in the shot that lets the viewer know the car is in motion, i.e. water splashes, drive sawing away at the wheel or some leaf litter blowing up in the air. Unfortunate;y, the rain had dried up by the time I took this and the leaves had all blown off to the side of the road. Still, I like the composition (the car angled across the frame to bring the picture together and give it a bit of energy) and strong colour of the orange against the green foliage.

I have been trying to get as low as possible for many of these tele shots. I think it produces an angle that you don't usually see these cars from as well as making the background clean as you can't see the road behind the car. It also gives a bit of immediacy to the subject. After taking this 993 I realised how much the 959 influenced it's design.

Another low down shot at 200mm, the head lights curves of the road and driver give the shot a bit of energy that is otherwise lost with a fast shutter speed.

I'm really pleased with the clarity and balanced exposure in this shot as well as the water being kicked up to add a bit of drama. Also, it's not a car you'd expect to see in the countryside around here, they're usually in the financial district. Good to see this British Bulldog getting the drive it deserves.

This is definitely my favoured type of backdrop for the countryside shots. I do my best to find a hill or rise with a foliage backdrop quite far away from the subject and then try and snap the car as it crests the hill.

With these I was trying to get some foliage in the immediate foreground for a more candid feel and also to act as some natural vignetting that focuses the eyes on the subject and brings out the sharpness. It was difficult find a balance between not having the foliage overlap the subject too much and get low enough to have a thin a piece of road as possible.

Hope you don't think I was waffling a lot of nonsense there. I think it really helps to reflect on why you think a photo works or doesn't work and then go on from there.

Though I will say, I am insanely proud of it. I love everything about that photo for some reason.

There's nowt wrong with that photo. You've done well to get good balanced exposure even with the headlights on.

Scans of the magazine containing my first printed photos I took a couple of months ago for Maxi Tuning out of Mexico, featuring a local HK Toyota Supra. I'm really happy how the photos turned out and hope I can use this as a vehicle to do some more in the future! Now I want to get my teeth stuck into proper lighting etc.

It's awesome that you got a published set and I don't want to diminish that in any way, but the reflections on that Supra are so numerous and busy that it really breaks up the form of the car. I realize you probably didn't have the use of large silks to block off everything, but you should still be looking out for it. On the one or two occasions I've had to do this sort of thing, I took a lot of care to shoot low and keep as much sky in the reflections as possible as well as identifiable structures or people. There's so much going on in the paintwork of that car I found myself looking at the reflections trying to identify what I saw, and that's no good. You really have to be careful about losing the form of the body through all that busyness.

Yup, absolutely taken all that advice on board. I understand exactly where you're coming from and had that in mind when I was shooting, I just didn't have the experience to deal with it. For the shoot it was just me, the car and a camera. This is the kind of stuff I want to learn all about! Please, if you have any other tips I'd love to hear them. Thanks for the constructive criticism!
