Me and my girlfriend's dog Charlie, the miniature aussie. Charlie runs the show. He tells you he wants to play by ramming you with his rear end as he runs by. He doesn't sleep much though. He's generally wide awake as soon as anything around him moves, as you can see by this picture.

I mean, look at that. Someone has a belly in need of a rub.

A lot of the little dogs are already transitioning into smoochie givin' mode directly after being woken.

At least it's better than when I had to comb craigslist looking for the owner of one of the stray cats that has moved into my yard. All of these are happily owned.

Here's my dog. He had to be put down this year

I was trying to capture his "don't kick me off the couch please" smile, but I was the only one home, so he knew I was full of poo poo. This one is a bit closer to his "don't make me move" face.

He'd have to vacate the couch if both my husband and I wanted it. He could count to at least 2, since he only jumped into the bed for a cuddle in the morning if only one of us was in it.

She's a purebred german shepherd, but has a Czechoslovakian bloodline. They tend to be a little smaller, and have straighter backs so they don't "slope" like the classic g-sheps.

She's a crazy, high strung, failed police dog! (But I still love her)

Does that mean she doesn't have the leg problems that german shepherds typically have? I've always wanted a german shepherd, but I don't want a dog that will be hurting because of breeding practices. Same reason I'm getting a rescue pug if I ever get a pug. Poor flat-faced dudes.

Show GSDs have more problems than just their legs, unfortunately. But yeah, you can get some pretty wonderful (INTENSE) GSDs if you look at dogs from working lines. Here's a breeder we like to drool over in PI on a few of the different varieties within the breed: http://wildhauskennels.com/gsdtypes.htm

Pugs... there's no hope for pugs. (That's not true... I know a couple accomplished little pugs, but they had to undergo surgery to remove excess skin from inside their cranial cavities and be given real nostrils so they could function like a normal dog.)

There is supposed to be a much lesser chance of hip dysplasia in the european bloodline vs north american (classic looking german shepherd) although I don't know the statistics or anything.

This link is pretty interesting, especially the video.
