Nthman posted:I really do hope they tighten up the stand your ground laws.. this poo poo is getting ridiculous. That you're seeing so much of the same stuff parroted by the killers is telling. I'm also eager to hear about how a guy who would shoot a man lying on the ground bleeding "just for the effect" was able to pass all our rigorous screening procedures for handgun purchase, and especially so (edit:) since he appears to have a concealed handgun license.

Hey everyone, listen closely. Do you hear it? That's the sound of a bunch of NRA assholes rushing out to explain that somehow lax ownership and carrying laws aren't to blame for this.

Magic Rabbit Hat posted:To be fair, stricter gun permit screening would've made it more difficult for this crazy person to pull out a concealed weapon and shoot an innocent man in the head. That's a difficult fight. Some stuff came up in the freep thread down in D&D lately on the UN small arms treaty, and these people are all basically loving nuts. They see any attempt, or even any discussion of possibly maybe it being a good idea to consider attempting to regulate or restrict firearms ownership in any way, such as mental health screening or registration or reporting requirements on purchases as good cause for CWII. This guy is one of them. Responsible owners should want to keep guns away from people like this, but unfortunately the crazies are the ones who control the narrative, and they're the ones who have something to lose if something gets done.
