Hi guys, I'm pretty new here and my joining the forums comes at that odd time during the summer when the majority of us Undergraduate Students have to move. Well this is just a personal rant about how moving can cause a serious headache. Alright, as I quasi mentioned, I'm an undergrad moving in to a 5 bedroom house with 4 other undergrad students (3 girls and 1 other guy...I insisted on a 2nd guy so there would be someone else I could relate to especially when all the females sync up their iPods and iPeriods). I move tomorrow, but the house I'm moving out of is a 7 bedroom house that 9 people live in, everyone is supposed to be out tonight by 11:59pm my time which is in 8 hours, everyone is moving out, and were all going our separate ways. At the same time, since we know the people who are moving in, they've taken to starting to move their poo poo into the house, which is bottling up the common areas. Then I have to go to a mandatory "orientation" at my new place which is a gated community for college students where they are going to show everyone how to use a key, start the dishwasher, wash machine and dryer of each person's new home and collect the 1st month's rent. Well, I manage to think that I have some level of common sense, and experience in living as I've been on my own since I was 17 when I was emancipated (I'm 28 now, did the military thing if you're wondering about why 28 and only an undergrad). Anyways, I have to sit through the 2 hour orientation tomorrow to be given my key and allowed to move in. It gets better, 1 of my new roommates isn't responding to texts/phone calls, its likely because the rest of us think she's a day time hooker, but we're concerned that she might not make it to Minnesota and where we go to school in time to pay her part of the rent. We spoke with the landlord, and if she doesn't show, we have to cover her share of the rent before we can move anything in. Today, my allergies have caused a massive headache, and now my gf is calling me up bitching about how work sucks, and I'm possibly getting screwed into having to pay someone else's rent. All on a day where 20,000 students move back into town, and an extra 5,000 are in town to watch the Vikings run practice plays. Sorry for the long rant, and I hope it fits in General Bullshit, have a better day than the one I'm having. (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)

I'm sensing a fair amount of underlying resentment of females here. Did your mommy not hug you? An alternate theory, I suppose, is that you want a guy to relate to because you can't 'relate to' females so you want to 'relate to' men, if you see what I'm saying. Moving is always a big pain. I'm moving soon and don't have a place yet. Every time I see a U-Haul with undergrads and their parents I curse, because that's another low-rent hole taken from me. We'll see where I am in a month, should be interesting. I have three different housing plans and two of them don't rely on luck or talking my way into a place. Ditto for work-searching, which will combine with housing quest to make for a pretty interesting August. All I want is my house from years ago, with the same roommates or handpicked ones. Your house sounds like it's going to be a great time, good luck trying to be the rebellious hard-rocking testosterone crew with your one buddy/male roomie. Sounds like you're moving into residence or some kind of terrible corporate community, good luck! Since they don't collect first and last I just have to ask: why is this? They got you all by the short hairs or what? I couldn't move in with inexperienced people at this point or even into an inexperienced situation, what you describe seems ludicrous.

I was homeless for four days inbetween college houses because the different landlords had moving in/out days at different times. I couch surfed a few days but I had to spend one weird night sleeping in an alley. Also in Britain the landlord cant make you pay another tennents rent if she flakes out. I'd doublecheck with American laws before trying to counter lawyer him but if they have a similar law he cant make you pay her share.
