Was having a lot of fun in this league last year until my old Xbox red ringed, looking forward to more good times.

I'm really hoping this year's Madden is more like 10/12 (good defenses) and not 11 with its broken zones and awful defenses.

I'm just excited for the inevitable "guy joining picks up every top rated FA immediately."

Look back at this post guy. Look back and despair.

Having people sign up incorrectly was completely worth it just to have Costanza glaring at me every time I look at the league.

I was looking forward to many weeks of that nonsense. That's okay. My creepy rapeface harbaugh makes up for it.

Havoc, what do I have to bribe you with to put that picture of Costanza in the OP. It'll peak interest for more players, I swear!

I also love that he retired after his storied career of 2 hours. Truly the next Lombardi.

Hey whatspeakyou, I saw your message about Hernandez but I don't think he can really be on the trading block for me. The Patriots entire offensive playbook is basically 2 TE sets so losing one would be bad news.

Edit: Hey Havoc, would you be interested in trading No-Show Moreno or CJ Spiller? I need a backup for Ray Rice.

If not, Buckmister I have some interest in Shane Vereen.

Vereen is definitely on the trading block if you're interested, let me know.

I was just on thinking about picking up Mr. Glass, but I ended up with some defensive end. I can go figure out his name if people care but I don't remember offhand.

John Brown, your offer finally showed up for me. I think it's fair but I'm just not that interested in upgrading at that position. I spent a while looking over your roster to offer a counter-trade, but I couldn't find anything that felt reasonable. If you want to talk about it more we can though.

To everyone in the league, the Pats are definitely interested in upgrading their secondary, particularly at FS/CB.

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

I don't see a trade either but it's worth noting that it took ~24 hours for my last one to show up.

No one seems to have claimed the Titans yet but I see someone listed. Should I contact him or will someone from the waiting list take over?

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

When similar situations have come up in the NFL coaches have chosen to run the ball so I don't think he was trying to be a dick, Havoc. It's just a tough situation to avoid offending someone in since punting is stupid and a field goal is guaranteed to put up more points.

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

No one has claimed the Titans yet so they probably need someone from the reserves list too.

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

Hey Josh, I accepted your latest offer. I should just note that with the way the Pats run their offense (2TE sets all day) my 3rd TE is really my second stringer who sees the field a lot.

Whatspeak, I saw your offer but I'm not very interested in it - slight upgrade at a position where I already have a high-rated guy + huge downgrade at WR doesn't make sense to me.

Lewis would be at MLB most of the time for me and I've already got Jerod Mayo there, who is only a couple of points below him. Spikes plays more on the outside.

EDIT: also lewis has leprosy

Yeah that was a pretty frustrating game, your defense was great but it felt like the computer would not stop screwing me at every opportunity. Getting a 3 and out on your first drive only to have an AI-controlled RE rough the passer was terrible, and then Gronk getting concussed immediately after (as I got hit and lobbed a pick) just felt like the game was trying to tell me to give up.

Even on my only scoring drive of the night a 5 yard run to make it 2nd and 5 from the goal got called for holding and turned into 1st and 20, which I basically got lucky converting. Woodhead fumbling on a regular tackle when I had a chance to tie the game was pretty much what I expected at that point.

I was surprised by the way my dime package shut down CJ too, but whatever works!

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

I'm not having fun! Gronk probably has permanent brain damage now and my hatred of in-game Woodhead has translated over in to real life. This is the early fall of my discontent.

Actually Gronk probably has brain damage in real life too, but oh well.

I kind of like the no accelerated clock too since it means you have time to make adjustments and get used to each other without games being decided by one bad play as they often are online.

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

That was a fun game! Kind of weird to see us both moving down the field using completely different strategies. The game featured no turnovers by either side, an epic running game from the Cardinals, Brady going 16/16, Gronk being run down from the 40 to the 1 yard line with the half expiring for 0 points, and Fitzgerald generally clowning DBs to pick up 1st downs all day.

Brady did fumble on a sack once, but the Pats recovered the ball after a clown show of 2 Pats linemen diving over the ball, followed by a Cardinal DE diving over it, and finally a 3rd fat Patriot rolling over it. Not the finest moment for the trenches.

Does the clock actually stop in this situation? I thought you would actually get added time but now I'm concerned if this comes up in the future.

I didn't think you were trying to run up the score, plus once it got out of hand the only fun option is to try and score 24/7 on both sides. You shouldn't have unpaused the game immediately when I had to answer the door though, that was a pretty crucial 3rd down where I was running some random crap defense. Came back in time to see just a TD.

Pats go down in flames with Brady, Lloyd and Hernandez all injured early on. Mallet posts a 118 rating and yet still teaches me the meaning of "poor deep throw rating."

Still not sure what the key to defense is in this game, but playing both the Titans and the Ravens felt like the same d so I feel like there's some secret I haven't heard.

whatspeakyou posted:

Yeah I didn't know you were leaving the room. My fault on that sir. I thought it was kinda weird of you to play press on a 3rd down passing situation. Blackmon just shrugged off said press and skipped to the end zone like a school girl. As for defense, there's some things we folks do. You did pretty well in the second half, but you forced the ball into too many tight windows. Try to take less chances with the pass. Work on reading the defense safeties down to try and determine what they're running and adjust accordingly. Granted, I disguised my coverage a poo poo ton, so that prolly didn't help.

I mean I've been playing Madden for years and used to be ranked pretty highly, so it's not like I have no idea what I'm doing. It just seemed like you and the Titans both ran the same kind of man-press coverage that the Raiders could run in 11 and 12 (where the DBs had the speed to make up a beaten press easily), but I don't think either of you have super fast DBs. There were many plays where I literally didn't have a guy open because they were locked down by random players which doesn't seem right.

I throw dumb picks anyway, but when your opponent is bringing a lot of pressure and can still lock down 5 receivers it seems wrong. I play a fair amount online too and I've seen a lot of this from random people. It seems like there's just one thing that folks do, and occasionally they switch it up to zone d to try and nab a pick. I just don't know what that thing is aside from it involves unusually effective man coverage and a lot of press/pressure.

Hey entropy, just wanted to note that I'm around and we can play tonight.

TheBuckmister
Oct 18, 2008

Entropy and I played our game but got desynced with 1:50 left in the 4th, hooray. I had a weird bug all game where entropy's groupings showed up as "Punt" for me no matter what he was doing. Also the desync itself was odd - Fitz got killed on a sack, then the game rewound to right before, Fitz was killed again, rewound again, etc several times. It was like groundhog's day if Bill Murray had been getting sacked at 6am.

Entropy asked me to play the CPU, so if you could set that Havoc I'd appreciate it. The game was not close at the end so it seems ok to just get it done. The lopsided score might have been due to Fitz getting hurt early, leading to the Brian Mooreman offense. I kept thinking all game that I knew the backup QB's name, but I didn't know why until it hit me that entropy was playing with a (cut) punter. Not pretty.
