I just beat Darksiders 1 again. I beat it when it first came out and loved it, it's one of my favorite games. I got it on Steam and plugged my 360 controller in, like I do for most games (Arkham City and Skyrim being the 2 most notable recent ones) and it worked perfectly. I had forgotten how easy the last boss is when you get the Abyssal Armor though. Everything even getting to him was easy because I'd just heal any damage I took but, on the actual boss, I never even got hit.

I have literally a dozen games I've purchased over the last year that I haven't even put into my 360 so I really shouldn't be buying anything but the original Darksiders was a really great, fun and overlooked game and THQ could use all the help they can get right now so I preordered Darksiders 2 and cannot wait for Tuesday. The only downside is that I have to work that day so I won't get a chance to really sink any time into it until Wednesday and I want to play it noooooooow!

The whole endgame is a joke in terms of difficulty, Once you start getting the Legendary weapon mods, and the armor, you are taking a tiny fraction of the damage you were taking, and have so much life drain, Chaos generation and Wrath leach that nothing can touch you. I'm not sure I lost a full skull worth of damage the entire rest of the game after getting the armor. I wish some of those upgrades were obtainable earlier. My biggest issue with the original was how I never felt any sense of increased power until the very end. The move upgrades never felt like they mattered outside of the initial purchase.

Played the first 3/4 of the game never feeling like I was progressing in strength, then all the sudden I was an unstoppable juggernaut of destruction. Hope the pacing is a bit better this time around.

I loved the first, even if it felt a little insulting that pretty much everything in it was a ripoff of something else. And the few things that seemed original later turned out to come from somewhere else too (Say, that Sand worm boss fight that was already in Shadow of Colossus). I'll probably get this one but I'm hoping for more original ideas.

So how is this taking place at the same time as Darksiders if at the end of the first one War was just summoning them to earth for backup and had no idea where they were for most of the game? Putting that in spoilers just in case but you know, most people reading this thread have probably beaten the first one.

I don't understand their spoiler policy. The second/third trailer has the incredibly spoilerific tagline "Death will be our saviour", which was never mentioned again and replaced with "Death lives" after that and any inquiries in interviews were met with redirection and non-answers. Then they release the Last Rites trailer that completely renders all their secrecy moot and is a two minute long shot showing that mankind survives, which they apparently desperately tried to hide for months. Also, I hope somebody makes an inventory hack that allows us to add/remove the pre-order Armor/Gear. And the release date here is a week after the american one

But since it is a parallel story, it could be that what War's moderately concerned about in a genial sort of way is an entirely different issue compared to what Death is working with. The pre-release materials (and I'm not spoilering this, it's all out there in press for the game) seem to suggest that Death is going to be dealing with Or something like that.

I remember them saying that this game takes place between the prologue of the first game(when the apocalypse is happening) and the rest of the game(after everything is dead), which is about 100 or so years. So that gives them plenty of room for Death's story.

That Fury and Strife business is still the stupidest thing about these games. It's just so...like, WHY? They do their darndest to try and obscure any explicit Christian mythology from the games but, as everyone has pointed out, neither Fury nor Strife are really sensical choices as horseman of the Apocalypse. I'd be a lot more interested in playing as Famine than as Strife. I mean, you'd probably have some kind of leech-like powers, so it'd be interesting to start at a weakened state and grow stronger and deadlier as you sap away the energy from foes and friends and everything around you. Pestilance could be something like an infection, naturally, so maybe you'd be able to mind-control groups of enemies or something? I dunno, either way, any of them would be a lot more fun to play than loving...whatever Fury would be.

Pestilence isn't actually one of the four horsemen in the bible anyways. The first horseman is Conquest, which doesn't make much sense to me cause of War being named later.

Could have infected dudes by attacking them and then had your speed and power increase the more dudes were infected at once (sort of like in Arkham City when your combo starts getting high), encouraging you to bounce around and keep enemies infected. Then have spells and combo things that do extra damage and do various nasty things to infected enemies when they're done, like make them explode or hatch spiders. Looks like Death has got some stuff like that though. GammaShade posted:According to the Giant Bomb sneak peek, Strife is the one with guns, which makes Fury the woman. EDIT: ^^^ You could just check out the Darksiders wiki for information of Strife and Fury. They could have made Pestilence some kind of super jolly viking spreading his diseases to everything in his path, Famine could have been some skinny guy who could barely lift his sword and has leeching powers like was said earlier. Man now I want someone to make a game about Famine and Pestilence going around wrecking poo poo. Rhonne fucked around with this message at Aug 10, 2012 around 18:01 |

Bugger. Got beaten to pointing out the first horseman being Conquest, but according to a wiki article on the four, the first horseman might be less of a clear-cut 'bad' guy. Could be Christ, or some similarly less dire manifestation. I like the idea of there being a pissed off boss of the other three. I can't remember but ingame were the horsemen supposed to fight for heaven, hell, or just judge humanity to let the two planes go at it without those pesky sinners and saints getting mashed underfoot?

Which is why War was in so much trouble when the war started to early and all the humans died horribly.

Ddraig posted:gently caress famine and pestilence. They need to bring back Conquest, aka the Forgotten Horseman. The only reason I knew about Conquest was because of playing Binding of Isaac. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are bosses that can be encountered. They originally included Pestilence because he's commonly thought of as being one of the members. In the expansion, they added in an achievement called the Forgotten Horseman which unlocks Conquest as a boss if you complete it. I decided to look it up and found out I had it wrong for quite some time. That's not to say I would care if they substituted Pestilence for Fury or Strife. It sounds like people in the thread want him to function like a plague marine from WH40k, which is fine by me. I'm not sure how you would even differentiate Conquest from War.

In traditional Biblical interpretations of the Four Horsemen, the first rider is a rider on a White Horse. He carries a bow, wears a crown and is said to "ride out like a conqueror bent on conquest" Incidentally, it's also said that Jesus, when he supposedly returns to herald the end of times, will also ride out on a white horse, wearing a crown but carrying a sword instead of a bow. Some people take this to mean that the white rider described as one of the horsemen is a falsh messiah (or antichrist) that is supposedly going to conquer the unbelievers. "War" isn't actually named as such in the bible. He's just a rider on a red horse, which was taken to mean War, but is sometimes interpreted as bloody massacre. The only horseman that's actually named is Death, who rides a pale green horse. I'm not a huge biblical scholar but it always really annoys me how the four horsemen are always taken to be Pestilence (or Pollution, if you're reading Good Omens), War, Famine and Death when the first two are really open to interpretation

drat, this game looks great, but I just realized I never finished the first one! Time to plug that sucker back in and do it. and anyway the white rider wasn't named but I always thought if he did have a name, it would be "Conquest." Because he carried a bow, wore a crown and was said to be a conquerer. (that's something that the Atlus SMT games get right, at the least; in the Raidou games he even prefaces his attack by saying, "You'd better watch out, mortal. A conquerer is coming!")
