^those are beautiful! I've never pre-ordered a game on steam before, does it usually take this long to go from countdown to unlock? Right now it just looks broken.

Steam says it's out now, but it still shows as Hotline Miami Pre-order on my List and you can't start it. edit: The devs just tweeted quote:The game itself is on the way, Steam is working on getting it out and in your hands.

First wave of reviews are out. Glowing praise all round, it seems. Here's mine - unsurprisingly, it's rather positive. Just buy the drat thing. It's great. Interestingly, the whole thing was made using GameMaker, which is on Steam now. It might be officially 'entry-level' software, but it's a very powerful package in the right hands. For anyone still wondering if it'll live up to expectations - this game is incredible, has great atmosphere, and is just unbelievable fun. I played it for an hour and I was just blown away. FEAR NOT. IT DELIVERS. A loving AXE TO THE BRAIN.

Did you guys with the error popup also get a message when it did the first time setup, that you had a newer version of Visual C++? "A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine." It does this every time I try to load the game as well. edit: if I mash Ignore through a ton of the popups the menu does load but no sound, so yeah this is pretty screwed. Tweeted at the devs.

look at this readme I found in the directory.. "Hotline Miami 1.0 ................. If you get an error saying "Error defining external function" please install one of the files in the "folder redist". Use the x64 version if you're on a 64-bit system. Otherwise use the x86 version. .............................. The XBOX 360 control support will be polished up a bit in an update ASAP. ................. Dennaton Games"

Is this game playable on a controller or is it keyboard/mouse only. I'd assume there is a controller option but the mouseaiming I've seen in trailers makes me doubt that'd be possible. If you do not have a 360 controller do not toggle the option ON as apparently you might get stuck in the menus with no way of using the keyboard to do anything. And even reinstalling doesn't fix it.

I had the same problem and the game runs fine, except I'm having some insane "vsync" problems despite the game not being 3D. I'm retarded when it comes to these types of technical problems, but the screen tearing is really awful. I am playing at the odd resolution of 1360x768 because I'm using my tv as a monitor. But before I go digging out one of my computer monitors out of the attic to test things, is anyone else having this issue? Besides that, the game is loving awesome. I went into it not knowing what it was all about besides it looking like an old school GTA game. It feels like a strategy game almost. Reminds me of the old Rainbow Six games how you plan to breach a building full of well armed rear end-holes. Except your planning phase is in real-time and done through trial/error gameplay that you can instantly restart. Also, the music is K-RAD TO THE MAX!!

The speed at which guys come at you combined with one hit death makes it look pretty rough judging from Gyoru's stream. Having just mashed my head against part of chapter 4 until beating it, I can confirm this. You're fighting AI that has perfect aim, perfect reflexes (unless you're JUST entering a room and they weren't ready), and can detect you from a couple yards away if you're in the same room, even if you're behind them. You're usually better off throwing your melee weapon than trying to catch someone point blank with it. Gunfire will often draw the attention of enemies clear across the level while inexplicably not alerting one randomly selected guy right on the other side of the wall from you. No windowed mode, no resolution options, and the only control that I want to remap, namely lock-on being assigned to MMB, is the only one that's not remappable. It also feels like the better I get at the game and the more bonuses I manage to start racking up, the worse my letter grading gets. My "Flexibility" rating is also constantly at 0. What the gently caress does it want from me?! E: All the tally-based achievements are apparently broken too, and it doesn't support the Steam overlay.
